Logis de la Croix was a 17th century fortified farm that has been carefully renovated to give 4 individual family holiday gites. All of our gites have a private terrace with a gas BBQ, all have clear views over the enclosed pools area and the large playing field with children's area. Located on the edge of a small village the views are over open farm land, with almost no traffic its ideal for walking or cycling with young children. We are only 5 minutes from the market town of Matha. To the South about 25 minutes away is Cognac, and about 35 minutes away is the historic city of Saintes. St Jean D'angely with its famous weekly fish markets is only 20 minutes away. The coast around the Charente Maritime has dozens of sandy beaches and coves.
We spent several years looking for the ideal property to start our new adventure in France. Logis de la croix ticked all the boxes, quiet village location, fantastic views, not far from the shops and main towns and lots of space to make it our own.
We moved from Poole in Dorset to our new home in France just before Christmas 1999. With 2 young children, Louise aged 8 and Elliot aged 7. We had a month plus the fun of Christmas to help the children get used to the move.
We soon got started on our big project, with our first 3 gites ready for the summer of 2002. The fourth gite and our own home were completed the following year.
Martin purchased this house in 1999
This set of gites owned by Martin and Madonna are ideally located for anyone looking to explore this beautiful region of France.
The 3 bed gite we stayed in was clean, comfortable and equipped with everything a family needs.
The pool is lovely and ideal for all, there is plenty to do in the extensive gardens, or you can simply relax and take in the breathtaking views that surrounds your accommodation.
The owners themselves are always on hand to offer help and guidance should you require it without being intrusive.
There is plenty to do and see, we discovered Cognac, La Rochelle, Saintes to name just a few. The local village of Matha has a wonderful selection of artisan bakers and traditional shops. There are local markets to explore and a wonderful array of historical landmarks.
We have enjoyed ourselves so much on this holiday we have been twice and are considering a third visit.
If you book your holiday with Matin and Madonna you will not be disappointed, there is something for all here, we are a family of 5 (children 13, 11 and 4) and everybody had terrific time.
