The ground floor of this 200 year old house is open plan, with exposed beams and stone walls.
The massive fire place has been carefully restored. The lounge area has a sofa and chairs facing a TV (with UK Satellite TV) and DVD with a selection of films.
The fitted kitchen is equipped with a gas cooker, dishwasher, fridge and microwave. (The washing machine is located in the bathroom).
On the first floor are 2 bedrooms, a double with views over the pool area and a twin bedded room overlooking the courtyard. Across the landing from both bedrooms is a modern bathroom.
Logis de la Croix was a 17th century fortified farm that has been carefully renovated to give 4 individual family holiday gites. All of our gites have a private terrace with a gas BBQ, all have clear views over the enclosed pools area and the large playing field with children's area. Located on the edge of a small village the views are over open farm land, with almost no traffic its ideal for walking or cycling with young children. We are only 5 minutes from the market town of Matha. To the South about 25 minutes away is Cognac, and about 35 minutes away is the historic city of Saintes. St Jean D'angely with its famous weekly fish markets is only 20 minutes away. The coast around the Charente Maritime has dozens of sandy beaches and coves.
We spent several years looking for the ideal property to start our new adventure in France. Logis de la croix ticked all the boxes, quiet village location, fantastic views, not far from the shops and main towns and lots of space to make it our own.
We moved from Poole in Dorset to our new home in France just before Christmas 1999. With 2 young children, Louise aged 8 and Elliot aged 7. We had a month plus the fun of Christmas to help the children get used to the move.
We soon got started on our big project, with our first 3 gites ready for the summer of 2002. The fourth gite and our own home were completed the following year.
Martin purchased this cottage in 1999
To make a booking, the deposit is 20%, the balance paid 8 weeks before arrival.

We can be flexible in low season.

This was our 4th family break with Martin and Madonna at Logis de la Croix, this time staying in 'The Cottage' (one of 4 Gites on the site). It suits us (Mum, Dad and 2 boys, 7 and 8) perfectly. Younger kids would love it too and older (teens) will not be bored. In our time, there were kids from 4 - 16 all playing together.
We can't fault the weather, the accommodation or the experience in this idyllic French Countryside setting. The views are stunning, the peace and quiet spectacular and the relaxation total. Happy, occupied kids, ecstatic, unoccupied parents!
The ground floor of the Cottage (200 year old house) is open plan, with exposed beams and stone walls and keeps really cool, even in the 35+ degree heat that we experienced for our week. Everything you might need is on hand in the kitchen (and if it isn't, it will be sorted). WiFi is available and the BBQ provided even makes cooking fun (for Dad)!
The children are free to explore the field, the climbing frame, the table tennis etc. while making friends with kids from the neighbouring houses (4 altogether at Logis). All this within view of relaxing / sunbathing parents outside the Gites. The pool too is perfectly safe - right in front of the Gites and surrounded by a childproof fence / gate.
The houses are full of fun and games for the children - useful in the midday heat. Great fun explaining how to use the video player : 100s of videos to suit all ages provided. We managed to find time to watch the Olympics via BBC on satellite.
You can socialize (or not) with your fellow parents (some opportunities are laid on, but it does happen naturally too). You can explore (or not) the local area. Deep in Pineau / Cognac country, there are countless producers to visit. There's plenty to do and see within 30 mins drive and more excitement if you need it just a little further afield (e.g. Futuroscope).
We hired bikes. There are 10-12km local rides through sunflowers, vines and sweetcorn, and longer ones (50K / 3 hour rides) for the more adventurous.
Nothing is too much trouble for Martin and Madonna Keys and their family (living on site). We had a 7th Birthday cake / party laid on and I know their evening meals are delicious. I never tire of recommending this experience to family and friends, many of whom have joined us over our various visits.
