About the property

Spacious house in secluded and peaceful setting

The house is approached by a private drive over 100m long and is surrounded by its own grounds amidst arable farmland. It has five bedrooms, three bathrooms, large kitchen and two large reception rooms. The English owners spend several months of the year there and it is equipped for up to 12 people to stay there comfortably. A local English couple look after the property. There is an 11m swimming pool, table tennis, gas and charcoal barbecues, two terraces, extensive garden and poolside furniture. The outbuildings include a large traditional timber framed barn. Overall the situation is private and peaceful - the gardens and pool are not overlooked and the nearest house is 600m away. Good shops and supermarkets, restaurants and markets nearby. Golf, tennis, canoeing and riding also available locally.

About Jonathan White

We have owned this house since 1986 and spend several months a year there. When young our children spent every summer holiday there and invited friends for weeks on end. It's very much a home to us, not merely a holiday property. We love the space, the privacy and the area - all a complete change from where we live in London.

Why Jonathan White chose Lot-et-Garonne

I bought a small farmhouse nearby in 1972, when this part of France was very backward and foreigners virtually unknown. We quickly came to love the area, the people and relaxed lifestyle.

In 1986 we saw this house was for sale. We'd driven past it almost daily and were intrigued by its style and grandeur. Once we'd seen inside we were smitten and we bought it, from a French couple who had lived there for 50 years.

Since then we have never regretted it. Our children spent their summer holidays here and love it too. It's now much easier to get to from UK (in 1986 it took 2 days driving; there were no autoroutes, no fast trains, no direct flights from UK) but the house and gardens are still as secluded and private as they were then.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

We love the spaciousness of the house, they don't come much bigger than this! Large rooms, high ceilings, light and airy. And the terraces, ideal for alfresco eating, drinking or just lazing about. Even with lots of people staying - it sleeps 12 - there's always a quiet corner inside or a shady spot in the garden for a bit of peace. The pool's not overlooked, the nearest neighbours are over half a kilometre away. So you really are in your own private space.

Notes on accommodation: The property is ideal for families with children with lots of space for everyone. Because of its size and high ceilings it's relatively cool even in baking summer temperatures. Outside: The 100m drive has about 25m grass on either side. The main garden is at the south facing rear of the house, predominantly grass with many mature trees, the original house (unoccupied) and a large timber-framed barn. The private pool, with alarm, is 11m long with tiled surround and is about 30m from the house. Both terraces have tables and chairs for alfresco meals, there are gas and charcoal barbecues. Table tennis (under cover). Extensive garden and pool furniture and sun umbrellas are provided. The grass is cut and the pool cleaned regularly. Utility Room: Washing machine, vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board, second fridge freezer (for drinks?). Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedlinen and towels are provided but we ask you to bring towels for swimming. A cot is available but we do not provide cot sheets or duvets. The house is cleaned before your arrival, additional cleaning during your stay is available for an extra charge. Other: Vast hallway 11m x 3m, with French doors to south facing terrace. Landing on first floor 3m x 7m, with glazed door to balcony, Art Deco sofa, two fully stocked bookshelves.

Superb Spacious House

A fantastic 10 days holiday. 6 adults and 5 children were easily accommodated within this spacious property, with open grounds overlooking the countryside.

Large pool and plenty of seating for all. Nearby towns worth visiting include Eymet and Issigeac, which was my favourite.

The owner was very easy to contact and always replied promptly to any questions. We would certainly recommend this property and would not hesitate to return. Nothing negative to say, from any us.

Fabulous holiday!

Pujols is the perfect place for a family holiday. It’s ideally situated just 30 minutes drive from Bergerac airport, with supermarkets and boulangeries a few minutes drive away. The house itself is stunning: it’s spacious and cool even on the hottest day. There’s a good size swimming pool, a large garden area and plenty of outside seating, giving the option of sitting in the sun or shade at any time of the day.

As a family we have visited twice already - and I’m sure it won’t be the last time.

Lovely, spacious house

We had a wonderful stay at Pujols. It worked perfectly for our large family gathering. It has so much space and it is very well equipped. It was great to have so many places to choose from to sit and relax, both inside and out. Beautiful grounds and pool. Communication with the owners was very quick and easy. Absolutely nothing negative about the house!

Beautiful house in idyllic surroundings

Had a fabulous 2 weeks here in July. Lovely spacious house with large elegant rooms, beautiful pool and garden. The bathrooms were huge with nice baths and fittings.Lots of outside space for lunches and dinners al fresco with a choice of barbecues. The nearby village was very pretty and we enjoyed the use of the tennis court there. All in all we were delighted with our choice of holiday house and would definitely come back again.

For the 'Early July' and 'Late Summer' periods the minimum rate is £1,100 per week, for up to 4 people. Additional guests are charged at £100 per person per week during these periods.

Changeover day is Saturday. Guests are asked not to arrive before 5pm and to leave by 10am to allow the house to be thoroughly checked and cleaned.
