About Tim and Cathy Arthur

Tim and Cathy Arthur purchased this apartment in 2014

Why Tim and Cathy Arthur chose Milford Haven

The Old Docks at Milford Haven were transformed into a modern marina in time for the Tall Ships Race in 1991.

Since then there has been a steady development of the facilities which now include some excellent bars, restaurants and shops. Milford Haven is at the half-way mark centre of the 180 mile Pembrokeshire National Park Coastal Path. Starting in the North at Cardigan and finishing just short of Pendine in Carmarthenshire - its a magnificent area of wild cliffs, long sandy beaches and popular resorts. From your base in Smokehouse Quay you can branch out each day to explore a different area within an easy drive.

What makes this apartment unique

The Smokehouse Quay Apartments just along the quay from the Marina basin is a really super development. The apartments enjoy view across the magnificent Haven Waterway which is busy with leisure boating and commercial shipping all year round. Forget train-spotting, instead take up ship-spotting from the comfort of your sofa. There is a waterway view from both bedrooms and the living room - the twin bedroom even has a unique "porthole" window. Take a drink onto the balcony and keep up with in the maritime action!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks for letting your apartment to us. We had such a wonderful time taking in that view every morning and evening. I hope that we can come back next year.

Best wishes, Angela Gray. BBC Wales.

Fantastic flat, quiet with views and south facing

  • 5 of 5

Lovely flat, about 20m from the sea, small pebble beach, spectacular views over the estuary, boats bobbing about all the time, very quiet, it is the only flat we have ever been in that you can't hear water running from above or next door. All amenities in flat you could wish for and lots of info on area. Didn't use local restaurants but large Tesco just round corner. Museum good just down the road (£2). Brilliant base to visit all attractions in area. Milford easy to get into and out of. Brilliant customer service from owners who were very flexible on our length of stay. Would highly recommend this accommodation, we just wish it was nearer to us but I'm sure we'll return.

Perfect base for Pembrokeshire.

  • 5 of 5

We've just recently returned from a fantastic week in Wales. The view from the apartment is lovely and you could literally waste hours watching everything from the tankers to fishing boats pass by.

Tim was a great host and went out of his way to deliver a travel cot late on our Friday arrival so that our daughter could rest after a delayed journey down to Milford Haven.

The town itself is quite urbanised with all of the major stores and everything is well within walking distance, including good restaurants and major food outlets. It is also a very central base for seeing all of Pembrokeshire and easy to navigate back to after a day out.

The apartment is well appointed with all mod cons and there are lots of things like a small library, encyclopaedias (nice touch to keep the kids interested in the evenings!) and plenty of recommendations of places to go and things to see.

Thoroughly enjoyable stay and will definitely return.

More, much more than we expected

  • 5 of 5

We really loved our short stay in this apartment. It had everything we needed, all very clean and many extras, books, puzzles, etc etc.

Most of all, we loved the beautiful views. Add to that the peaceful

position of the apartment the good eating places nearby and many

interesting things to see locally for example the Museum less than 400 yards away.

Theres lovely

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely marvelous stay in Smokehouse Quay - second vist to block but first to this apartment which is just lovely with every comfort you could need - special mention for such good quality towels and bedding. Could not recommend highly enough and would say it is more than value for money. Views are stunning especially in the evening and it is so well placed for getting around the beautiful pembrokeshire coast. We spent lovely evenings with our bubbles watching the big tv and our days enjoying all this area have to offer. Special mention must be made for Lamphey Hall Hotel for dinner - please go you will love it. If you want to self cater in this lovely area of south wales please have a look at Smokehouse Quay and hear the waves lapping on the beach as you drift off to sleep

Further Details:

Milford Haven was developed in the late 18th Century, Milford Haven by Quakers from Nantucket as a whaling port. Later described by Lord Nelson in 1802 as being "one of the finest harbours seen" it developed in the early part of the 20th Century as an important base for the fishing industry. The old harbour was featured regularly in the 70's Onedin Line T.V show and later the hosted the start of the 1991 Tall Ships Race.

Now it is an expanding marina with over 200 berths whilst still being used by trawlers.

The Marina features restaurants, bars, a gallery, museum and ten pin bowling. Within an easy stroll of the apartment is a retail park which includes Tescos, Boots and the town's railway station. Within the town itself are a variety of shops, banks, a sports centre with swimming pool and the award winning Torch Theatre.
