About the Owner

Whilst living and working in London we had spent 5 consecutive summers in Hvar and visited this house on several occasions. We thought how wonderful it was and then in 1998 the owners asked us if we would be interested in buying it as they were moving to the States...

In those days it was difficult to find what we needed locally and we travelled like pack-horses, carrying everything from bannister rails to electric kettle. A labour of love!

These days things are very different.

We spend as much time here as possible and it is a great way to see our children and grandchildren who all love to visit but of course there are always other commitments and the house is available for rent during our absence.

We hope that you will love it as much as we do and have a wonderful holiday.

This house is a gem. Situated in the heart of the old town of Hvar, it affords a rare taste of old-world life. Our compliments to the owners for executing a fine job of renovating an old house while keeping its original charm. The best part of the house? Definitely the Master bedroom stone balcony with a view to the castle on one side and the harbor on the other"

Every single one of our party voted your house as the best

accommodation and location of our 10 week European sojourn.

We loved relaxing in the lounge, drinking wine in the courtyard......we

even loved cooking in the amazing kitchen. Thank you very very much for allowing us to experience the joy of living briefly in our very own Hvar villa... If any of us ever get the chance again, we will be back here staying in your beautiful place!

Fabulous period house in the heart of old Hvar

  • 5 of 5

Lovely old house situated 5 minutes from the marina and the town centre.

The house is well suited to a variety of age groups and held the 8 of us well. The kitchen space is bright and airy and great to hang out in after a day on the beach. We ate most evening meals al fresco on the garden terrace which is a lovely way to wind down at the end of the day. There were adequate showers and hot water was plentiful. The housekeeper visited midweek to change bedding and the owner contactable via email should there be any queries.

Local amenities include a well stocked supermarket, many restaurants, boutique type shopping, sea taxi's to ferry people to the many island coves.

Don't forget mosquito repellents - they are the silent, invisible but peckish type!!

Great location in beautiful Hvar

Lovely old townhouse, minutes from the harbour, in a quiet location. The house was well maintained and the owner very helpful. We really enjoyed visiting the islands near Hvar and had a great holiday.

Inspiring first visit to Hvar

  • 4 of 5

Hvar is one of the prettiest places we have ever visited (it's right up there with Italy's Amalfi Coast, from our perspective). It was built by the Venetians, with a beautiful harbour, elegant Piazza, and stunning old buildings. The house is in a great location, in the historic old quarter and it is really easy to walk everywhere from here. It is a large property and we are a family of four, so had more than enough room for us. It has all the amenities that we needed in terms of kitchen, washing machine etc. The top floor bedroom has a lovely balcony, which is a great place for an early evening read. During our first week, the weather was particularly hot and the lack of air-conditioning made it hard to sleep. After a huge thunderstorm, the air cleared and the second week was fine.

Full of character and charm, this townhouse made the perfect stay for our family trip to Hvar. The house is large and airy, providing plenty of space, there are enough bathrooms that there is never a queue, and the balcony and garden provide a place to eat family meals and relax out of the heat of the sun. The house feels like a home which makes all the difference. We were a mixed group ages 18-61, and being located right in the centre of town allowed us to spend plenty of time together but it was easy enough for everyones preferences to be accommodated without having to walk or drive anywhere to meet with the rest of the group.

My only complaint would be the beds in the two twin rooms are not only tiny but incredibly uncomfortable. I'd strongly recommend the owner replace them if this is going to continue to rent this house - after the first sleepless night I ended up with very bad back ache, to the point where I would have considered going to buy a new matress if I had of known where to get one!

We'll definitely be back again provided the beds are sorted out. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

From the Owner

Forget traffic and parking problems, once you step off the catamaran onto the Riva in Hvar you are just a few minutes walk from our house. Everything you need is within easy reach . Take a shopping basket in the morning and stroll through the old stone gateway of the town walls to the open market and bakeries. Then back via the piazza for coffee and then off to the sea. So easy to pop home if you forget something and children can go out independently without parents worrying! The row of old stone buildings between the house and the piazza is also a great sound barrier so you have the benefit of a central location without the crowds or noise. The sea is still the cleanest and most beautiful colour we have seen anywhere in the world.

From the Owner

A unique property built in 1510 as a holiday house for priests, it still has the old stone doorways and other original features. Spacious and airy, the thick stone walls keep it cool in summer (with ceiling fans as a booster). Staying here you will not feel like a tourist but like a part of the real Hvar.
