This recently renovated cottage is ideally located to easily take advantage of everything the south coast of Barbados has to offer. It is literally 5 minutes walk from the south coast boardwalk, The Lanterns Shopping Centre, lovely seaside restaurants and bars and a few minutes walk from the beautiful Accra Beach. The apartment itself is air-conditioned and has a fully appointed kitchen with all the amenities. A large breezy patio with dining table and hammock overlooks the tropical gardens. Wireless internet, cable TV with all the popular channels, a stereo and a wide selection of books and magazines are all included. There is also parking space and a once weekly housekeeping service.

About Charles Mackenzie

My name is Charles Mackenzie and other than six years living in Canada and Great Britain, I have lived all my life in Barbados. My wife Maria Antonia is Venezuelan and has lived in Barbados for the past 10 years. We are both in our early forties and have two children. We are more than happy to make suggestions on places to see, restaurants, beaches to visit etc. We have two children, Benjamin and Marianna and two little Jack Russell dogs, Daisy and Suzie.

Why Charles Mackenzie chose Marine Gardens

Just a few minutes walk from the busy south coast, but located up a very quiet cul-de-sac, the property was ideally located to be able to enjoy all the south coast of Barbados has to offer but be able in a few minutes to escape to quiet gardens and enjoy a beer on the breezy patio. We love the south coast of Barbados. It has as much or more to offer than the west coast, is cooler and breezier and a great deal less expensive. In no time at all we can enjoy great restaurants including Thai, Indian, Italian, Greek, Japanese, not mention traditional Barbadian. There are great beaches very close by and Bridgetown is only a few minutes away as well. The property is on a quiet residential cul-de-sac in a mature Barbadian neighborhood.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage has been recently renovated, is in a very safe and quiet neighborhood with wonderful neighbors. It is close to almost anything you would likely need whilst on holiday. If there is anything you need that is not provided, we live next door and will be more than happy to provide it.

Notes on accommodation: A laundry service can be provided if necessary. Outside: The large patio faces the east which allows it to benefit from the prevailing breeze. It looks out onto the gardens and is furnished with a circular dining table and four chairs, two single seater chairs and a hammock. Utility Room: A laundry service is available if requested. Depending on the quantity, there may be a small charge for this. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: A housekeeping service is provided once a week. At this time the apartment will be cleaned and all towels and linens will be changed.

My wife and I arrived on the 10th August and met with Charles (the Owner ) Who is a lovely man. He and his family were off on their own Holiday the next day but showed us around and answered all question. There was not many as he supplies a welcome pack that is full of all the necessary info. I must say that the Photos do not do the property Justice, everything is lovely. Superb Air conditioning that is very quiet, Lovely bathroom, and Kitchen. Then you go outside to a superb swimming pool and what we called a Tropical garden. Firstly 3 lovely Turtles that wander around ( feed them Lettuce and they will visit everyday ) a adorable super friendly Jack Russell dog called Susie. Small Salamander type animals which are very quick on the outside walls and funny to watch trying to catch any passing insect. The pool was very refreshing and NEVER Cold, always clean and hard to leave once in. The local Boardwalk which runs alongside the beach leading to bars and Restraunts etc is only a 5 Min walk away. Nearby is a adorable beach which is open to all inside the Coconut Court Hotel, this beach has a man made reef which is full of tropical fish that are easy to see just standing in the crystal clear water. Local Restraunts that I would reccomend are 1) NARU this serves a mix of Sushi and Asian food and is superb, ( Went there twice ). Situated right on the Beach about 10 Mins walk from the cottage. 2) Tapas, just down from Naru along the Boardwalk also. This area is NOT affected by the Seaweed problem that they are having further up the coast. We hired a car but found that apart from trips to the Supermarket and the beach at Coconut court we did not need it. Charles and Maria are lovely hosts and even took time out to make lovely Tapas and snacks and drinks for us on our last night. They live next door but leave you completely alone unless you want help with anything. They have 2 very polite children Benjamin and Marrianna who you hardly hear at all. Nothing but praise for this rental property that incidently also supply free Wi-Fi and Netflix for all staying. Totally brilliant Veranda/Patio to have breakfast or evening meal and just chill. Pretty much all we did for 2 weeks before heading back ( Sadly ) to work.Thanks again Charles and Maria see you again.

Our own little cottage

That's what it was like. I'm not sure if the star rating is working correctly for me but I gave it a9/10 - I'm saving the 10/10 only because Charles is always striving for improvements and I'd like to reflect them when we go back.

We travel quite a bit and have yet to meet more gracious and accommodating hosts than Charles, Maria and family. They provided us with a home away from home, we had what was to all intents and purposes a private pool, and in addition, a comfortable bed, a complete kitchen, tortoises who love lettuce in the garden, what appears to be an extended family of monkeys, all sizes when we were there, who stroll along the back wall of the garden every now and again -going I don't know where, and a great patio that gets the morning sun for an hour or two before breakfast where I was able to relax in peace and quiet with my books before the family got busy. From the cottage there was easy access to restaurants along the coast, grocery stores and malls on the main road, lovely walks along the boardwalk all the way to Accra/Rockley Beach and further along the beach to the Tiki-Bar for food drink and sunsets, while in the other direction down past the Hilton to Carlisle Bay there is the Cruising Club, the Yacht Club Brown Sugar Restaurant, and more, or you can if you wish go under the pier and follow the beach right down to Bridgetown - passing quite a few beach bars with a wide variety of food and drink on the way.

Of course, the public transportation along the main road in both directions is great if you're not a beach walking person.

The apartment is only about a 5 minute walk away from the south coast board walk. This board walk extends from Accra beach to hastings and allows you to walk as far as the Hilton Hotel on a combination of board walk and beach. There is a wide variety of restaurants and bars within a 5 to 10 minute walk including fast food, sports bars and fine dining. Many of them have an ocean view and open onto the board walk.


The apartment is about a 15 minute drive from the airport and about a 10 minute drive from the capital Bridgetown. It is very centrally located with pretty much everything you need within walking distance. There is also a frequent bus and minibus service running between Oistins to the east and Bridgetown to the west along the south coast road.


Nowhere in Barbados is very far. From the apartment, Oistins and Bridgetown are about 4 km, St Lawerence gap which is lined with restaurants, bars/pubs and night clubs is about 2km away. The Garrison Savannah which at certain times of the year has horse racing every Saturday is about 2 km away. At the Garrison Savannah you will also find some of our historic sites and buildings such as the Barbados Museum and George Washington House.

Because this apartment is located so close to almost everything, you may find you do not need to hire a car. However if you would like to, we can recommend a reliable company and make all the preliminary arrangements for you. We can also make arrangements to have you picked up from the airport when you arrive. These services you will have to pay for independently.
