About the Owner

My wife and I moved to this area of North Cornwall from London 10 years ago and now could not imagine living anywhere else. North Cornwall is as beautiful as anywhere we have travelled on our countless global treks. If you enjoy walking or surfing, beautiful countryside, villages and churches and great local produce you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Overdene is gorgeous you have done such a marvellous job doing it up we had a really lovely time there thank you. I particularly love the kitchen /diner so spacious and social;, and that beautiful table with the fabulous sea view. It was the perfect house for us the accommodation worked really well, it was truly great you are so lucky to live in such a spacious, light and airy place - London does feel pretty cramped since returning. Anna Hyde

Just wanted to drop a line to say we had a lovely, relaxing holiday at your house. The house was great - It's very well equipped, great for families, comfortable beds etc. The kids didn't want to come home and my husband even managed to surf every day and watch the football news on Sky! Kate Mason.

What a beautiful house and the weather - well! it certainly matched it, We felt like we were in the Mediterranean - The doors open - sitting on the terrace looking at the amazing view. The photographs do not do the property justice! Geoff Rose.

Location

From the Owner

This area of North Cornwall remains a bit of an undiscovered gem. We have easy access to all the well known holiday spots such as Rock and Polzeath but the local atmosphere is far more relaxed and equally if not more beautiful.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The glorious tidal beach of Trebarwith strand is but a 5 min drive or a fabulous 20 minute walk across to the cliffs and down. It is dog friendly and served by Lifeguards in Summer. Great for surfing (surf school on beach), fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, rock pooling, swimming and watching wildlife. The famous South West Coastal path is five mins from the front door and is beautiful in both directions. And for a totally different scene the wilds of Bodmin moor are just a 15 min drive away.

Travel:

Car transport is necessary. Bodmin Park railway station is about 20 minutes away. Flights to Newquay airport plus car hire possible, 40 mins. Travel from London, in season, 5 - 6 hrs but as we have dedicated the less busy changeover day as Monday you may find you can significantly improve on this time.

Distances:

South West Coastal path 2 mins walk, Beach at Trebarwith Strand 1 mile, Historic Tintagel and Tintagel Castle 2 miles, Fishing villages of Boscastle, 3 miles and Port Issac, 4 miles. Polzeath, Daymer Bay and Rock c.10miles. Wadebridge (good shopping) with bike hire for the beautiful camel estuary ride to Padstow and the essential fish and chips from Rick Steins 30 mins by car. Eden project 40mins - 1 hour by car.

Further Details:

The local shops of Tintagel are just one mile away, Spar, Londis, Butcher, cash machines. For those who want to sample the best meat though head for Home Farm above Boscastle (10mins) or for Fish and the best crab in the world try Port Isaac (15 mins). Tescos is in Wadebridge 20-30 mins drive but they offer a delivery service, please book well in advance on Tescos website if you want to use this service.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Overdene is a very light and comfortable house having just completed a complete refurbishment. Pretty much every single kitchen and bathroom fitting, all electrical equipment and all the beds and mattresses are new as of July 2010. Heating is oil fired underfloor in the kitchen and radiators in all other rooms. Bathrooms on first and second floors have electric underfloor heating and radiators. The house is fitted with smoke alarms on all floors and 2 carbon monoxide detectors. There are great views from every room in the house either from the front down to the sea or to the rear across open countryside. Outside: To the front of the property is an outside shower for cleaning up surfboards and wetsuits on return from the beach and a slate terrace with great views to the sea. The terrace has a bench table and sun shade. At the rear of the property is an enclosed garden with views over the surrounding countryside and a large tiled patio with herb garden with a large outdoor dining table and large weber barbecue. 6 bifold sliding doors open up onto the patio from the kitchen bringing the inside out and vice versa. Steps up from the patio lead to the lawn which looks out onto rolling countryside. Utility Room: Ground floor wc with hand basin. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided and changed at the end of each booking. For longer stays weekly cleaning and change of sheets can be arranged with an additional charge. Please bring your own beach towels. Other: A large hardwood door from the dining room leads onto a South West facing slate terrace with glorious sea views. The balcony terrace wraps around the front conservatory which again has glorious views and is filled with beautiful plants.
