Set within its own grounds of 2 acres, with large ornamental garden and private parking La Hubidiere is perfect for that quiet break to unwind (in fact within hours of arriving and settling on the patio with a glass of wine I wonder can we ever leave again, warm evenings on the patio with clear skys (not spoiled by light pollution) are magical, stars and comet gazing is an essential evening pastime !! Internally the house is tastefully furnished and decorated and is very roomy with log fired central heating and electric convector heating for cooler parts of the season. There are plenty of areas in the house to relax and unwind if you need some privacy from the rest of your party from time to time!!. We have local English caretakers ( Andy and Di ) who are available should you have any problems, they can also provide at reasonable cost a meal service brought to the house for you for when you arrive ready to heat up and eat or on that last evening to savour your time here. A large south facing terrace overlooking the garden welcomes you when you leave the house , loungers and table and chairs are provided for the full experience !

About Steve brown

My wife Val and I are planning long term to live in La Hubidiere so it has been chosen carefully to ensure a good balance between secluded setting and access to local facilities like shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, etc. We both like the French laid back way of life and the family culture and also enjoy exploring villages and relaxing outside cafes and bars watching the world go by. We have owned the property for 10 years and have carefully prepared it to ensure that everything you may need to enjoy your holiday is at hand. Getting there from the UK couldn't be easier just two toll roads from Calais and not too expensive to travel on and biggest bonus hardly any cars which is a big plus for us after the UKs busy roads!

Steve brown purchased this farmhouse in 2005

Why Steve brown chose Sarthe

We love the people in the Loire area and find them to be both friendly and helpful (even if your French language skills are dodgy like mine) People will often help you when you are trying to ask for something or even surprise you and break into English! Locally there is plenty to see and do without travelling for too long and just relaxing at the house with a book on the terrace can be a really rewarding experience.Le Lude plenty cafes for snacks or drinks, our favourite restaurant in Le Lude is Le Vulcano which is a very popular Italian restaurant with inside and an outside courtyard eating area, whilst for a quick lunchtime snack the local supermarket has a great Cafe serving snacks and meals either inside or on the patio.

What makes this farmhouse unique

La Hubididere is a great place to unwind, yet so close to some great towns, villages and cities so retail therapy is also possible when you are in the mood, mostly the peace and quiet get you once you have settled in which after the busy life in the UK is so refreshing, we love the garden also and enjoy the views from the house to the surrounding countryside. There is a dedicated cyclists route about half a mile from the house that goes between a few of the villages across open fields and woods etc and if free of traffic and very safe to use, there is a ladies and gents cycle for your use in the garage. If you like bathing there is a lovely beach on a picturesque lake only 15 mins away, also an outdoor swimming pool next to the loire river 10 mins away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This house is an excellent place to stay for both young and old. If you want to laze around then La Hubidiere is peaceful. If you want to be more active then there are wonderful places to visit close by and further afield. We enjoyed our stay there enormously and would recommend it to anyone. From Philip and Libby

Detached seclusion near the Loire

Great location, allowing us to tour the Loire Valley chateaux. Facilities are exactly as described. Clean and spacious. Directions good, easy to find. Le Lude chateau is a must. Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful holiday.

A fantastic, tranquil setting

  • 5 of 5

We spent a fantastic two weeks at this superb house. This is our second visit, as we first stayed here in 2011. The house is lovely, very clean and has everything you could need. We particularly liked the secluded location of the house, but it is also close to the main road that runs between Le Lude and La Flèche, so easy to reach amenities when needed. There is plenty to do in the local area - we have two children aged 7 and 11, who enjoyed the lakes at La Flèche and Mansigne, and also the zoo at La Flèche. We highly recommend this property, and it is certainly one of our favourites (we have stayed at quite a lot of Owners Direct advertised properties. Sometimes they are not as nice as the photos when you see them, but this one does not disappoint!) We will definitely be returning next year!

The Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

When my partner and I first arrived, I knew we were in for a relaxing time and it didn't disappoint. The moment we unpacked, the patio chairs where out and we put our feet up with a bottle of wine. We just wanted to getaway from it all and this was perfect in every way. The location was great, surrounded by country scenery. We could literally hear a pin drop through the day, it was heaven.

We spent most of our stay in the house, it had all the facilities you would expect from a good home, especially in the kitchen. One night, we did drive into a small village to a pizza restaurant called Le Vulcano, literally 5-10 minutes away that was recommended to us and again it was relaxing and the food was tasty, highly recommended.

The owners are clearly passionate about their holiday home as it was spotless when we first arrived and looks well maintained inside and out. We won't hesitate to book here again... very soon I hope!

La Hubidere is in a great location. The farmhouse is very well equipped with everything you need for your holiday. It is very well looked after by the owners and had a really homely feel. There is a big south facing terrace in front of the house and a well kept garden. It is very peaceful and we enjoyed sitting outside with a glass of wine after a day of sightseeing. If you do not want to just relax on the terrace there is a lot to see and do in the area. The castle at Angers is worth a visit and the chateau at Blois and Chambord. We also visited Saumur a couple of times and went to the castle and for us one of the highlights was a tour of the Cadre Noir the French national riding school. We had a great time and would definitely stay there again.

Nice cottage in good area

  • 4 of 5

Location is rural and quiet with no properties nearby, but is within easy reach of Le Lude: a small pleasant town with an English tea shop (recommended) and a chateau, and La Fleche, a larger town with good amenities, large supermarket and a superb lake with sandy beach, cafe, childrens play area, pedalos and supervised swimming for all ages.

Le Mans is about an hour away and the old town is really worth a visit - especially during the season of La Nuit des Chimeres (July/August) a magical city wide light show.

The cottage is clean, spacious and well equipped with a nice patio area which sees the sun all day. Ideal for sightseers or just for a peaceful break. We enjoyed it so much we are going there again in 2014 (something we have never done before)
