I live in Swindon, Wiltshire with my partner Sean and daughter Victoria. My partner and I both work extremely long hours running our own business. For us to buy a penthouse in picturesque Tavira to relax in our rare spare time has always been a dream. We were fortunate to be able to purchase our penthouse and it is everything we could have wished for. As this is our pride and joy, it is a pleasure to share our home with clients. We pride ourselves on having furnished it to a high standard for everybody to enjoy and be comfortable in. Notes on accommodation: The penthouse has full air conditioning (including bedrooms) which is operated by remote control. The units convert to heaters during the winter. There is no extra charge or restricted times for air conditioning or heating. Electric shutters to all windows. Hairdryers supplied. Beach furniture, cool box and parasol supplied for your days out at the unbelievable beaches. The complex is enclosed with fencing and gates and therefore safe for children. For the benefit of all our guests the penthouse remains at all times a smoke free zone. Our penthouse is licensed by the Camara Municipal de Tavira Register No: 3742/AL. This means that it has been inspected and complies with their safety regulations which includes gas certificate, electric certificate, fire precautions, first aid kit etc. Internet service is provided free of charge . Our aim is for you to have a fantastic holiday and we will do our utmost to make sure everything runs smoothly. Outside: Beautiful manicured communal gardens with shared pool. Decking area with sun loungers and parasols. Seating areas in various parts of the gardens. The illuminated swimming pools and gardens are very glamorous in the evenings. Ideally, retire to the huge private roof terrace and view the mountains and sea with a cool drink and watch the sun go down. Roof terrace has dining table and chairs, gas BBQ, four sunloungers and is perfectly safe for children. Utility Room: Separate utility room overlooking courtyard with sink, washing machine/tumble dryer, iron, ironing board and cleaning equipment. Washing airer on roof terrace to dry washing. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Meet and greet on arrival by Dulce from Homekeys. Penthouse is cleaned to a high standard prior to guests arrival. Additional cleaning on request. High quality bed linen and towels included. Cots, car seats, high chairs etc, can be hired. Other: Marble staircase leading from living room to roof terrace. The large private secluded roof terrace is ideal for dining al fresco, bbq, sunbathing, or just switching off with a good book and a glass of local wine. Entrance hall has video entry system

Tavira April 2018

This location is very central to the town of Tavira and one could walk to the train station as well walk up & down the steps to easily get into Tavira. There are restaurants / pubs on both sides of the river. One of the beaches which is close, by either car or taxi is called Barill & you can then walk out or take a small train. It is a beautiful quaint beach.

We didn't use a car and traveled all along the Algarve using the regional train for daily trips. The villa has everything that one needs for their vacation. The beds were comfortable & the kitchen was well stocked c/w full size fridge, dishwasher etc.

Nice!

When we arrived the apartment was very cold, because it had been empty for weeks and Dulce had only just switched on the heating. It took two whole days for the temperature tpo reach a comfortable level.

The apartment is lovely. We did not get to use the terrace on top, but never expected that, seeing it was end of December.

The beds are a bit hard, the shower door had a faulty hinge (but I told the owner about it and whe assured me they were coming in January to do some repairs.). Door knobs and drawer handles were loose or just came off when handling them.

The beds are a bit too hard.

The location is good, and we got to count the steps down to the river, because we walked there almost every day :)

It would be nice to know why there was this light flashing every time we opened the dish washer. I filled the rinse and salt, but still the light kept flashing.

The self-locking sliding doors to the terraces would not always lock, so it is best to havbe the shutters all the way down when not there or during the night.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Scarlett. I am at the penthouse at the moment and adjusted all the handles. As I like to keep the penthouse to a very high standard I have replaced all the mattresses with new, luxurious less firm ones. The reason the self locking sliding doors to the balconies do not lock is because of the safety issue as it is easy to get locked out if you are at the penthouse on your own. This unfortunately happened late one night in the past and I made the decision to change the system.

We loved Tavira Only point I would make is that are over 100 stairs to walk into Tavira We always walked down and got a taxi back as there were no shops nearby

We stayed for three weeks with our two friends,we had a great time. The penthouse was excellent so comfortable and the sun terrace was great. We were in the pool every day. Gail was most helpful from booking the holiday to the end of our holiday. We will definitely be back. Thank you again Gail.

Excellent place to stay.

Third visit to Gails apartment. Tavira is an excellent place for eating out. The apartment has everything you need. Wifi included which seams to be essential these days. The roof terrace is a beautiful private space. The stairs down to the town are the only negative if you have difficulty walking but a taxi home is not expensive.

Perfect base for a sunny holiday

We cannot think of anything needing improvement in this property. It was very clean, very well equipped with anything we could want and the space was really well planned. The roof terrace was brilliant - sun and shade as required whatever the time of day, and the big communal pool was just down a few steps. The apartment was a short walk from town where we found plenty of bars, restaurants, museums, a park and shops - all good for leisurely morning or evening strolls. The river side was really picturesque. We really liked the Barril beach to walk along. It is a short drive away on Ilha de Tavira (or can be reached by local bus). The apartment was also a good base for drives to the hills and nearby towns. The town seemed to organise quite a few social activities as well - one Sunday there was a community exercise event, on another a Spring Festival. The short Fado performance was interesting. We'd love to return!

Special interest holidays:

Many people come to the Eastern Algarve to Bird Watch as the Ria Formosa is the most impressive birding site in the Algarve. Large areas of dunes, lagoons,

channels, islands, saltpans, pools and river mouths. Haven for the ornithologist.

Coast/Beach:

The beaches in the Eastern Algarve are long and golden with clear,warm water. Isla de Tavira beach can be reached by a charming short boat trip from Tavira town or you can take the toy train to the unspoilt beach at Barril. There are also many other enormous, clean, sandy beaches all along the coast, as far as the Spanish border to the east, or Faro to the west, none of which are overcrowded.

Unbroken stretches of beach, with good cafes, fish restaurants and parking.

Travel:

Faro airport is approximately 35km/30mins easy drive away. Airport transfers can be arranged. Car hire is available at the airport with very competitive rates, although a car is definitely not essential for the enjoyment of your holiday. If you choose to hire a car, there is ample free parking at the complex.

Distances:

The historic town of Tavira is only a 5 minute walk from the penthouse. Tavira is known as "Little Venice" or the "Gem of the Eastern Algarve" because of the old bridge and the River Gilao running through the town connecting both sides with glorious palm trees. The unspoilt coastal villages of Santa Luzia, Cabanas, Cacela Velha and Fuzeta are all only 5-10 minutes drive away. The Spanish border is approximately 30km east where the Castles and delightful villages are well worth exploring.

Further Details:

Tavira can be explored on foot, miniature train or by horse and carriage. It has a wide selection of riverside bars, cafes and restaurants. The romantic square is ideal for a day time coffee, or on beautiful summer evenings, enjoy the open air local festivals. Excellent amenities, including supermarkets, banks, tourist office, bus station, train station and ferry point. A fabulous daily market supplying fresh fish, fruit and vegetables. There are fantastic forest walks to be found and the boat trips are certainly not to be missed.For those that enjoy a night out on the town, Monte Gordo and Ayamonte offer lots of lively bars, restaurants and even a casino.If you wish to go further afield, Seville is less than two hours drive away and provides a fabulous day out.
