Behind the green door.....

.....a traditional French home.

A wonderful place to enjoy a relaxing break. With everything you could need provided by the owners.

The outside terraces are just the place for relaxing in the warm autumn sunshine, yet inside is cosy on those cooler evenings.

Set in a very peaceful village, with friendly neighbours, you are within easy reach of so many fantastic places to visit and some superb restaurants.

Having already owned a house in a village nearby, we had got to know the area very well, and we leapt at the chance of buying this place which is in a quieter position with a genuine rural feel, and is generally more full of character. Why would anyone like the area? Well, it's the climate - hot in the summer, it can get up to 40C, but it's also pleasantly warm all the way from March to November. And of course the slower pace of life, the richness of the landscape, the civilised lunches... The French themselves are friendly and welcoming in this part of the world.

Beautiful Med. resorts of le Grau du Roi and La Grande Motte are 41 miles away, (just over an hours drive). Don't miss the spectacular medieval walled town of Aigues Mortes which is a few miles inland. Further east down the coast is St. Maries-de-la-Mer in the beautiful Camargues Nature Park.


Nîmes airport is the nearest (Ryanair), and is about 40 minutes by car from the house. Montpelier and Avignon airports are also within easy reach. The TGV goes to Nîmes from either Paris or Lille. By car the journey is 9 hours from Calais if you belt down the Rhône valley autoroute, or 12 hours taking the pleasanter route via Rouen and Orleans. You need a car to get around the area.


The next village of St Maurice de Cazevieille is 2km away.

Vezenobres, astounding hill top village, 9km.

Bouscarasse, fabulous water park,10km.

Uzès, captivating medieval town with renowned Saturday market, music festival, wine festival in summer months, very swish, 18km.

The Bambouserie, Anduze (27km), unique garden attraction.

Alès, bustling town on the edge of the Cévennes 17km.

Pont du Gard, Roman viaduct and World Heritage site 33km.

Further Details:

The nearby village of St Maurice has a good supermarket, bakers, butcher's shop, Tuesday market and a very popular bar/restaurant.

The baker's van and mobile butcher comes to St Jean and stops right outside the house. Also in the village is a boules pitch near the school that you are welcome to use. The library is open twice a week. Uzès is great for antiques, designer shops and boutiques, and has a fantastic Saturday market

Alès is an up and coming tourist centre, and the famous Stevenson's Way into the Cévennes starts here. It is good for general shopping, fashion and food: (don't miss the arab market on Sunday morning!).

For those interested in art and ceramics, the nearby small towns of Anduze and Sauve are crammed with galleries, workshops and studios.

There is huge number of wineries in the area, with the 'Caves d'Euzet' being the most local (2 kms)

Cycling and walking in the area is a joy as there is so little traffic around; adult and children's bikes (and helmets) are available at the house.

There are books, games, guitar and piano keyboard all available for use by guests.

Also a compendium of guides and suggestions for sightseeing, walks, picnics and other activities.

A lot of people who visit make best use of their limited time by visiting the local attractions like the Pont du Gard, the Roman Arena in Nîmes, the Bambouserie near Anduze, the River Gard, the R.L.Stevenson trail in the Cévennes, Uzès market, Vezenobre and more. Personally I'm quite self-sufficient in and around the house, a little gentle exercise playing billiards, table tennis or boules, all to hand, followed by some TV or snoozing on the sun terrace. Walking or cycling around the village is also a great pleasure.
