About the property

Private rural villa in Tourrettes sur Loup, near St. Paul de Vence, Thirty Minutes From Nice Airport - Nature Preserve-Like Property, 5 Minutes To Village, 20 Minutes To Beac

La Gourrette is a partially air conditioned 'old-style' stone Provencal house. There is air conditioning in three of the five bedrooms: the master suite, the large twin bedded room and ground floor super king size bedroom suite. With lime-washed beams and cabinets, and old terra-cotta floor, it stylishly combines elegant antique furniture with unusual contemporary art and pottery. Separate self- catering shepherd's cottage sleeps two and has built-in barbeque and spacious terrace shaded by grapevines. Cottage has washer and dryer. It can be rented for an additional 300 euros per week. The property has majestic views up the Gorges du Loup and offers a private, serene setting whilst only 4 km from the medieval walled town of Tourrettes-sur-Loup and 15 km from Nice Airport. The house can sleep 9 and bedrooms have either a balcony or private patio. The house has all conveniences including 40" Samsung Smart TV, Skybox, Netflix, Apple TV, wireless internet and an enormous film and cd library. The beaches of Cagnes Sur Mer are 20 minutes away. Great restaurants with plenty of cheap and cheerful ones to take the kids. Dogs welcome. Pool has new heating system for surcharge of 200 euros per week. A desktop computer is available. Greolieres Ski Resort is 30 minutes away and a perfect place for small children to have their first skiing experience. Fabulous cosy fireplace with vents and fan to conduct heat to upper floor. Wifi with additional Devolo to extend wifi to master bedroom. Three very commodious bathrooms, two of which are ensuite - and one family bathroom. The cottage is not suitable for all ages and is always rented in conjunction with rental of the main house.

Large well equipped kitchen in main house with separate laundry facilities. Two refrigerator/freezers. See our website at www.lagourrette.com.

About Elizabeth Kvam

My husband and I love to travel which is a good thing because to begin with, we have children in Australia, England and the United States. Getting to see them is a full-time job. Although can't have animals because of our schedule, we love them and welcome pets to LaGourrette.

Elizabeth Kvam purchased this villa in 1980

Why Elizabeth Kvam chose Tourrettes-sur-Loup

An artist/friend lived in the cottage on our property in the late 1970s. He loved the wildness and serenity of the area and convinced us to buy the land. The local architect, Robert Dallas, was just refining his interpretation of old Provencal houses and LaGourrette, completed in 1984, was one of the first ten homes he designed and built in this style, using as many old materials as possible. The floor tiles inside the house and by the pool, the roof tiles and the beams come from centuries-old structures in Provence. We commissioned the local blacksmith to make wrought-iron furniture and purchased antiques in keeping with the old Provencal style of the house.

What makes this villa unique

We love that we can arrive at Nice Airport and be in our house in a little more than an hour. We are on two acres overlooking the greenbelt Gorge du Loup and the landscape is just breathtaking. The privacy, peace and serenity of the property is restorative. Yet, the medieval town of Tourrettes-sur-Loup is no further than 10 minutes by car. It has 2 butchers, 2 boulangerie/patisseries, 2 greengrocers, a fabulous farmer's market on Wednesday morning, bars, restaurants, artisan's shops and a shop where we can buy English newspapers. The third most visited attraction in France is nearby St. Paul with its art galleries and the Maeght Fondation with superb 20th century art. Tourrettes-sur-Loup is just as charming without the thousands of tour buses. We are only 30 minutes from the coast.

Notes on accommodation: Three of the bedrooms have AC. House has electric wall heaters in every room and each room has its own fan. The house has a proper cot with linens and two high chairs, two travel cots and a pushchair. The pool has an alarm, but parents are advised to watch children at all times. A large fireplace supplements wall heaters in winter and a venting system takes both heat and the lovely fragrance to upper floor. There are mosquito nets on all the beds and anti mosquito plug ins during summer months. The kitchen and utility room are bountifully accessorized with food processors, blender and a full complement of pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, napkins, tablecloths, good knives and glassware. Our bed linens are 100% cotton and laundered professionally. Commodious beach towels are supplied, as well as portable beach umbrellas, hats and market baskets. The design and flow of the house make it difficult to portray its beauty and charm. Outside: 6 sun lounges, 2 umbrellas, 4 deck chairs, covered barbeque dining area seats 12, two additional outdoor dining areas which seat 4. Fifteen metre oval pool which can be lit at night. There is a regulation-size boules court and ping-pong (table tennis) table. We have recently acquired an umbrella-style clothes line for drying clothes and towels. The garden lighting was recently upgraded so the property is beautifully lit at night and the pool light is part of the overall effect. There is a heater in the barbeque for cooler nights and we provide candle holders and candles for the outside table. There are ping-pong paddles and balls, boules for the boules pitch and pool toys and floats. There is a seating area for 4 outside the kitchen, in addition to seating for 12 under covered barbeque, circular stone bench and millstone table at end of the garden and two decorative metal settees, one on each side of the house. Utility Room: Second refrigerator/freezer, washing machine, dryer, ironing board and iron, golf clubs, 2 infant high chairs, cot, two travel cots, pushchair Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Price includes cleaning at end of occupancy. Housekeeper can be engaged for additional service. Towels, pool towels, 100 % cotton bed linen included. Rentals of two weeks or more in July/August includes weekly linen change and light cleaning.

Beautiful Villa in very tranquil surroundings

  • 5 of 5

The villa is stunning and has a wonderful charm about it. It was beautifully furnished and had everything we could possibly need. The pool was huge and had very comfortable sun loungers. We enjoyed sitting outside using the BBQ Area. Would definately recommend this villa to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday in stunning surroundings. It was a very special holiday and we will certainly be returning.

Amazing Atmosphere

  • 5 of 5

We spent 1 week at the end of May / beginning of June 2016 ar La Gourrette. We had previously on a few occassions been in touch with the owners & property managers, before making the booking, regarding a multitude of questions and they were always happy to respond.

We spent our honeymoon there, just the 2 of us, in a huge villa, all to ourselves. We were looking for isolation and to be surrounded by nature, and that's just what we found here - it was an amazing atmosphere.

The villa is equipped with everything that you need, and a lot more also. It's also very well located, close to the cute village of Tourrettes-sur-Loup.

We had the pool heated (it was necessary at the time, given the weather and temperatures). It was a lot bigger and deeper than expected - a good thing.

The barbecue area had all the necessary equipment, incl. coal / wood, utensils and heating, and you could create a superb ambiance at night by lighting up the candles there and putting on music that could be heard both inside and out.

And the sky was so clear at night there - haven't seen so many stars in a long time.

Everything was the way we had hoped it would be and we would certainly go back if that were ever the case.

I could go on a lot more, but I will finish with this: you will definitely not regret being there a bit.

This beautiful villa was a place of tranquility and beauty. We were a group of six fear friends celebrating our 65th!! The descriptions provided are extremely accurate and the photos tell all....with the addition of peacefulness. Everything we needed was at our fingertips. Lucy, our rental agent, did come to our rescue in the lovely village of La Tourrette, as locating the villa was "tres difficile". Most addresses were actually hiding behind a tree branches. A co-ordinate for GPS would alleviate this challenge. The Internet seemed to be intermittent...possibly due to the remote location. Once again Lucy came quickly to check things out. If you wish to sight-see daily, there is a bit of a windy drive, but we think it is worth it! I highly recommend this villa for all ages!

Peace and tranquillity

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of six and stayed at La Gourrette in summer 2014. We were looking for a quiet place to unwind and were not disappointed. Our welcome from the agent Luci was warm and predictive of a trouble free fortnight. La Gourrette is a delightfully furnished very light and airy house set in utterly peaceful grounds with plenty of places to sit in the sun and read. The very well equipped kitchen with adjacent food store and separate utility room were adjacent to a large covered terrace which was the hub of our stay. A 15m pool allowed us to maintain fitness. The oval shape made it somewhat choppy when swimming but that enhanced the physical challenge with good results on return to calmer waters! The house is ideally situated being easily reached from the airport at Nice and a few minutes by car from the delightful town of Tourrettes-sur-Loup and all necessary amenities in nearby Vence. We rarely return to our summer holiday destination but La Gourrette will be an exception.
