Apartment 5 minutes drive to Ostuni, Brindisi, Puglia, Italy - Quiet location, large top floor apartment (own entrance) with private pool and wonderful olive grove

The villa is set in two acres of walled grounds close to Ostuni. While we occupy the ground floor, the first floor has been converted into a self-contained apartment. The conversion was originally undertaken so that our children and grandchildren could have their own space when they came to stay, love your grandchildren as you do, you cannot say they are not disruptive at times. And it is nice from time to time to leave the fray in order to recapture the peace and tranquillity we have found here. You enter the apartment via your own stairs though a well appointed kitchen-dining room, on into the lounge, to the right are two doors the first is a toilet, and the second is the shower room. Straight in front of you are French windows to a covered terrace. On the left are two more doors the nearest is a large bedroom, the next door is diagonally across the lounge at the top of a small flight of stairs, this too is a large bedroom, this room has French windows to a large L shaped terrace.

About the Owner

After working together running the family business, a retail camping shop, for over fifteen years Joan decided it was time to stop and retired from the business.

For years we talked about downsizing now that the children had left home to pursue their own lives. Then one day I said ok lets do it, now Joan desperately wanted to go to warmer climes, and as is not uncommon with us married folk she got her way. So for the last five or six years I have regularly travelled back and forth between Puglia and Kent to run the shop, spending approximately six months in England and the rest of the year here in Puglia. Now I have given up the shop to spend more time with Joan living full time at Casa di Nonna. It is not in my nature not to work so I now look after holiday rental homes for absent owners

A wonderful, relaxing place to stay

This was our first time in Puglia and we chose to stay at Casa di Nonna for 2 weeks and what a lovely 2 weeks it was. The apartment was spacious and clean and the balcony/verandas were absolutely great. You just look out onto a very cared for garden and miles of olive trees - all fantastic and our 3 year old loved it all, especially the plunge pool. The property is close to all key towns and beaches in the area: Ostuni, Villanova and other beaches, Martina Franca, Alberobello, Poliginano etc. What is good is that although there are lots of tourists in the summer around the beaches and towns, you can always retreat to the tranquil Casa Di Nonna - the best of both worlds. So, the property was great but what about the proprietors? Well, Joan and Terry were fab. When we arrived Joan welcomed us and had filled our fridge with all the basics we'd need, she'd also got Prosecco, fresh bread and a jar of homemade marmalade for us too - delicious. They were extremely friendly and helped us find restaurants and shops and gave us advice when we needed it, but they always made sure that you felt like you had your own space to enjoy the property and the pool. I would recommend this property to all people interested in coming to Puglia - we definitely want to come back.

first visit to Puglia

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. It is in a lovely setting overlooking olive groves and the owner's beautiful garden. It is within easy reach of the Adriatic which we swam in and has a lovely pool to cool down in too. There are also lots of pretty white villages to visit . The owner's are very helpful but give you plenty of privacy as well. We would definitely recomment this apartment and thoroughly enjoyed our first stay in Puglia.

This property is a delight

Booked for two weeks Owners could not have been more helpful. There were no suprises it was as stated in the description. The apartment was spotless and very comfortable, stunning views, one balcony overlooked the garden......so calming lovely to just sit and watch. The area is always worth exploring, owners know the area well. There are so many restaurants to choose from spoilt for choice. Well worth a visit .... try it it's lovely

From the Owner

After selling the house in southern England that had been our home for over thirty years, my wife Joan and I (Terry), hitched up a caravan and left England in late 2004 to tour Europe and find a new home. We looked in France, Spain and Portugal all with no avail. Southern Italy had been show cased on the tv and it looked and sounded interesting with it’s truli and relaxed life style. So we headed south and ended up here in Puglia. Were on the first day we decided that a trulo was not for us, but we did find a two story house that same day, ticked almost all the boxes, in particular it was big enough that our children and grandchildren could come to stay. It was far enough from Ostuni to be away from the rush of the tourist season but close enough to be able to join in when we felt the need

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Brindisi at 38 Kilometres Car: recommended


The beaches on the Adriatic coast are mostly small intimate sandy coves with rock outcrops between, the nearest being only twenty minuets or so by car away. On the other side of the peninsular is the Ionian Sea, less than an hour away by car, this cost has long soft sandy beaches. During the tourist season all sorts of businesses crop up at most beaches selling refreshments, snack foods, and ice-creams, you will also be able to hire sun beds with parasols and even hire things like pedderlows.


This part of Puglia has two international airports. Bari Airport is 104km away with a journey time of about 1 hour 25 minutes by car. Brindisi airport is 38km away with a journey time of about 35 minutes by car. Ryanair fly directly from the UK to both Brindisi and Bari airports all year, British Airways have a summer service from Gatwick to Bari, and Easyjet go to Milan from the UK and then on to both Bari and Brindisi all year. A car is strongly recommended.

Attractions & Amenities:

Because we are located away from the "beach and tourist" centres such things as the water park, golf course, zoo and the well preserved Roman settlement near Fasano are a little further away but still only an easy 40 minute drive away. More locally just out side Ostuni there is an adventure centre offering walking in trees as well as ground trail walks, zip lines, coach (horse drawn) rids and more, a short 15 minuet away. Torre Guaceto is a nature reserve just 30 minuets down the coast, scuba diving is available with full kit hire going out of Viilanova just 25 minutes from the villa, or of cause you could just chill.


Casa di Nonna is 6km from the centre of San Michele Salentino (a real Puglian working town), the historic centre of Ostuni (The White City) is 8km, the hill top town of Carovigno is also 8km. Ceglie Messapica the town you can see from the terraces is only 10 km and is reputed to have over 50 restaurants and San Vito Dei Normanni is a mere 12km. These are the local towns, all with a varied selection of shops that will be more than able to meet your needs. Auchan if you prefer is 28km.

Bookings made less than six weeks before the start date are payable in full on booking
Any cancelation made earlier than twelve weeks prior to the arrival date will be refundable in full except for a £50 administration fee
Cancelations made later than twelve weeks prior to the arrival date and before six week prior to the arrival date will be refundable in full except for a £50 administration fee plus a £100 advertising fee
Any cancelation made less than six weeks prior to the arrival date will be subject to a 50% refund if the dates in question are subsequently let otherwise on refund will be given
The damage deposit of £500 can be made by Paypal to Terry@helpinghandspuglia.com before you arrive or by cash on your arrival. Cash deposits will be refunded before your departure less any agreed amounts for breakages or damage, deposits made via Paypal will be refunded within 24 hours less any agreed amounts for breakages or damage.

Changeover Day:
We have no hard and fast rules about changeover days or departure time, except in July & August when Wednesday is fixed, unless we have a consecutive booking that is, when we can provide storage for luggage to be collected later on your way to the airport.

Notes on prices:
A breakfast pack is included in the price.
The prices quoted include electricity, gas for cooking, and water, in the summer hot water comes from a solar panel.
Winter prices include the above, plus wood for the fire, water heating is by immersion.

We chose this part of Italy and in particular Puglia because it offers a way of life lost to Southeast England a long time ago. The pace of every day life gives people the time to talk, shopkeepers are genuinely pleased to see and serve you, officials are all ready to take the time to advise on the best way forwards, you get the impression that every one you meet is willing to help, but most of all the family here has meaning. We think the position of Casa-de Nonna offers the best of all worlds, in so much that it is located in the heart of an olive producing region and is set in two acres with over one hundred olive trees, the villa enjoys very good access, having a countryside bus route close by, you know the type, an infrequent although regular and reliable service to the local towns

  • Notes on accommodation: Both bedrooms have ceiling fans. All windows are fitted with insect nets. The double doors from the upper bedroom to the top terrace are also fitted with insect netting. All rooms are equipped with electric plug in mosquito killers . Because Casa di Nonna is our home and we live here the garden is changing from year to year as we create and mould it. We are working on several projects, one is the planting of a small citrus grove and we have just finished a new fish pond Outside: The apartment has private use of two terraces, one accessed from the living room, this terrace has a bistro style table with parasol and four chairs. There is a small set of stairs that connect the terraces. The large L shaped upper terrace can be accessed from the upper bedroom or from the lower terrace via the small set of stairs, this terrace has a built in barbecue, table and chairs, drinks trolley and a coffee table along with sun-lounges and a free standing parasol. There is a large splash pool (24 ft diameter by 4ft deep) in the garden that you are free to use, I say splash pool but we swim in it. We use the same type of sand filter that you would install on a conventional in ground swimming pool and not the paper cartridge one normally associated with smaller splash pools, so the water quality is always good. There are numerous folding garden seats and beds available so you can find your own shady spot to relax in. I should also say that we have two well behaved, friendly dogs. Utility Room: An ironing-board and steam iron are stored in the kitchen as are a vacuum cleaner, broom and dustpan and brush along with cleaning products should you need them. the washing machine is located in the garden bathroom, requisites are provided. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are included and changed weekly, beach towels are also provided. While our guests are with us we tend to leave them alone, but should you require a mid week clean or linen change it can be arranged, but it will carry an extra charge. Other: Although not really rooms the apartment has two more living spaces on the terraces the breakfast terrace is covered and benefits from being in the sun for the whole day. The larger upper terrace has more shade during the day, both are lit by wall lamp
