Villa With Wonderful Views Over The Hills And Private Pool

Updated: 22-Oct-2016
3 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, stunning views, 15 mins walk to village

Villa Jodalu is a traditional Provençal style house offering light, spacious and modern accommodation. The property is within walking distance of the village of Bagnols en Forêt and 17km from the nearest beaches in Fréjus & St. Raphael. The property is in an elevated position, facing south, with beautiful views over the hills. The villa has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Bedroom No. 1 is on ground floor with French doors to terrace, king size bed, hanging/storage space, en-suite bathroom with bath, shower, sink + WC. Bedroom 2 is on 1st floor with double bed, hanging/storage space, en-suite shower room with sink + WC. Bedroom 3 is also on 1st floor, with 2 single beds, storage/hanging space, en-suite shower with sink + WC. The ground floor is open plan with modern kitchen, dining room and living room. French doors lead to the terrace from the whole of the ground floor. The villa is very practical, easy to maintain and has a warm, welcoming feeling. The garden is informal and laid mostly with Mediterranean vegetation. The terrace is shaded with a pergola, and there you can relax and enjoy a glass of tasty regional wine and start unwinding. There is also a side terrace where shade comes in the afternoon with a table and 2 chairs. The private pool is a bean shape, large enough to swim, have fun and cool down. A BBQ on the terrace is at the disposal of guests with a dining patio set of 6 chairs and a table. As the villa is built on old terraces, the garden is unlike a traditional English garden. Therefore, it is not suitable for disabled guests or wheelchair bound people. Toddlers should also be supervised as there are quite a few steps. The access ramp has got parking room for 2 cars.

About the Owner

I was born in Switzerland, grew up there and moved to England in the early 70's.

I really felt at home in the UK and after meeting the man who was to be my husband, I decided that this is where I wanted to spend my life. Like many Europeans, I am multi-lingual and I love travelling and meeting new people.

Charming villa in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

Can't think of a better way to spend a week! The villa is situated in a beautiful area of France, away from the hustle and bustle of Cannes and Nice, but close enough for a day trip (we visited both whilst en route to the airport).

There's lots to discover in the area, from cute little bakeries and restaurants, to immense lakes and fireworks on the beach (Lac de Saint-Cassien was our favourite). However the villa is so well equipped that you needn't leave the poolside, if a week of total relaxation is what you're looking for. We made good use of the barbecue most nights, whilst sipping on local wine and watching the stars come out.

Lucienne was a wonderful host. Great communication throughout and the welcome pack she provided had everything we could possibly need and more.

My one bit of advice would be to take insect repellent! The mosquitos were out in full force!

A delightful location to relax and chill out.

This villa is perfect for a relaxing family holiday. The villa is well equipped and has everything you could possibly need. This was our second visit and it really was like going home.

We stayed with our daughter and her husband and our son and his girlfriend - having 3 bedrooms all with an ensuite was perfect - plus a spare loo downstairs.

The garden is a traditional Provencal garden and smells wonderful. Sun or shade can be found at any time of the day and the pool helps to keep you cool on the hot sunny days. With it's blinds and shutters the villa remains nice and cool.

The villa is well maintained and was clean and tidy with all beds made on our arrival.

Being a short walk from the village of Bagnols fresh bread and croissants were collected every morning. Restaurants reasonably priced with a good selection of dishes.

Although it was difficult to make ourselves go sightseeing we did venture up into the Gorges of Verdon and a hill top village, Entreveaux - well worth the precarious drive! Still lots of places to visit on the Cote D'Azur so I am sure we will return.

Charming and convenient

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the villa for two weeks, and we were spoiled for choice: the (admittedly quite small) pool allowed for blissfully lazy days, and day trips were enticing: we visited Antibes, Nice, Dolceacqua, St Paul de Vence, Seillans, St Tropez, Frejus, Lac de Saint-Cassien (quite close and a lovely, relaxed time swimming off our luxury pedalo!), and a number of others. The village was nice, if not as pretty as others, but had a selection of decent restaurants and a bar in which to watch the World Cup. The tourist office led us to an enjoyable walk with a guide at the local Gorges du Blavet as well as a classical recital in the local church. It was an easy 10 minute walk into the village for croissants etc in the mornings.

Thanks, Lucienne, your property and excellent information were ideal for our much-needed break. We also recommend the L'échapée belle restaurant in nearby St Paul en Foret and the sublime Hotel de Deux Rocs in Seillans (more expensive but worth every penny). The villa was well-appointed, plenty of room and a good kitchen.

Owner's Response: I am always glad to get constructive comments. The pool is indeed not huge and because of its bean shape rather than rectangular, it may seem on the small side. It was built on the original olive terraces and had to fit into the landscape and in keeping with the size of the villa. However, guests seem to find it enough of an attraction to have fun and cool down. True, there are many other prettier villages, mostly further up the hills. The area is full of diversity and Bagnols en Forêt is updating itself year after year.

A gem of a place

  • 5 of 5

A very clean and tidy Villa with everything you could possibly ask for. We were three couples and a tiny baby and it was perfect. Each bedroom had its own bathroom so no tramping around disturbing other people in the house. No noisy (or nosey) neighbours, a stroll into the village for a meal or a loaf of bread, a little further by car to the beach and all the attractions of the Cote d'Azure. The pool was fantastic, we used it every day, and we also made good use of the BBQ. Villa Jodalu was wonderful, such a lucky find.

From the Owner

My late husband and I first discovered this wonderful part of the South of France 15 years ago. We fell in love with the landscape, the hills, the sea, the vegetation, the evergreen background, the narrow winding roads up to charming perched villages. Provence is a huge place, and the Var has it all: a stunning coastline, gorges, waterfalls, traditions, great restaurants, endless walks and much, much more. Living in England can be dreary in the winter so we decided to find a plot and build a home that would let us enjoy retirement with a good life in the sunshine. In October 2004 we finally picked up the villa keys and the dream became a reality. We made new friends and enjoyed many happy trips to our house in Bagnols. The garden was built from scratch and we've had successes and failures. Now, after all these years, nature has taken its course and it is close to being the garden we planned. Sadly my husband passed away in 2010 and my life changed. I then decided that perhaps other people might also enjoy staying at the villa. So, after friends, family and visitors told of how beautiful and peaceful the place was, I am pleased to say that my summer guests seem to enjoy the villa as much as I do. However, as I do now spend a lot of time in Bagnols, the villa is only available during the summer months.

The coastal towns of Fréjus and St Raphael can be reached in approx. 25 minutes by car and offer a huge variety of leisure and sporting activities as well as festivals, concerts and a great Sunday market. There are boat trips to the various local islands and to St Tropez. This is a great way to see the most stunning coastline, the creeks and the mountains beyond.

Nice airport is about one hour by car (motorway A8 exit junction 38) and Marseille is under 2 hours.

There are plenty of car hire companies in both airports and a vehicle is definitely recommended.

Lac de St. Cassien is just 20 minutes by car as is the hilltop town of Fayence.Nearby villages of Montauroux, Callian and Seillans are all within 30 minutes. Further afield, away from the crowds, the village of Mons boasts the most magnificent views over Provence. To the west, the Gorges du Verdon (The Grand Canyon of France) offer kayaking and trekking. Monaco and the beautiful Riviera are about one hour from Nice via one of the 3 splendid "Corniches".

Further Details:

Bagnols en Forêt is a typically French hilltop village, nestled between the sea and the mountains. You will find all essential amenities such as bakers, a grocer, pharmacy, post office, newsagent, hairdresser and a few reasonable restaurants. It is a great point of departure for trips to the coast or if you wish to discover the "Haute Provence".

From the Owner

Close to both the sea and the hills. Because of its situation, the villa is a good base to visit many sites, local and further afield. You can head to the seaside for a just a couple of hours or visit the Sunday market in Fréjus, go by boat to St. Tropez, visit Monaco, the Gorges du Verdon, etc...No-one needs to be bored, there plenty of attractions in the nearby towns of Fréjus and St. Raphaël. Once you've enjoyed the peaceful and quiet surroundings of the villa, you will just want to relax by the pool and have "days off" from the beach and the hustle and bustle of the seaside.
