Lovely weekend stay with family

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay at Blue Skies, a charming and quaint period house with bags of character and plenty of room for the 6 of us (3 couples). Brilliant to be able to park our car up when we arrived Friday afternoon and not to drive anywhere the whole weekend. Luckily the weather was kind to us and we thoroughly enjoyed walks along the sea front and to the end of pier where there is a nice cafe. We even managed a few hours sitting in the sun in the courtyard garden. The Saturday morning market was a plus and the High Street has a lovely mix of shops to browse in. Spoilt for choice with the amount of pubs and restaurants to choose from but had a lovely evening meal in the Port Arms which we would highly recommend. We could not fault our stay in any way and would not hesitate to book again. Thank you Jackie and Luke for sharing Blue Skies with us.

Blue skies is warm and inviting as soon as you step through the door. Warm, honey coloured, woods add to the aura of a happy welcome. After a day exploring Deal and the local environs, comfortable sitting room and bedrooms make for a restorative haven; a well appointed kitchen/dinning room provide a platform for fortifying the body before setting out for the day.

Beautiful place, great location, lovely people

  • 5 of 5

It was our first visit to Deal so firstly, van highly recommend the town for a nice break. We went with two young children (4 months and 3 years) and the older one particularly loved running along the seafront and the pier. Lots of nice places to eat (including on the pier which was surprisingly good quality and low priced) and plenty of pubs. As for the house, it's a lovely terraced cottage with lots of character. The kitchen was well fitted (washing machine, dishwasher, oven microwave, large fridge freezer) with nice large dining table over a counteFree tested kitchen was also well stocked with the basics (dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, salt and pepper etc, and even a few tea bags and coffee - so if you're used to Centre Parcs type places it's nice not to worry about needing to think about these things). There's also a small garden with table and chairs, though visiting in late November we didn't sit out!

Upstairs the lounge was cosy with fake fire adding to the ambiance. TV has netflix built in so you can log in to your own account (there's no active account) and all of freeview to watch. Three nice bedrooms, three toilets, one bath and one shower complete the place. We had no trouble parking with lots of on street spots available. The location is perfect with a nice Shepherd Neame pub 10 seconds away (there's a pub even closer - next door, but seemed a bit too 'local' for our liking), and the seafront 60 seconds away. The town is also very easily accessible (5-10 mins depending on which end you need) and there's a swimming pool with flumes for the family a 10-15 minute walk awa, just past the train station. It's then a short drive to Warmer castle (worth a visit), or a bit further to Dover. The owners were lovely too. they were quick to respond when we had questions in advance of the stay (and we had quite a few) and they greeted us on arrival to take us through important details like how to operate the heating. I'd thoroughly recommend a stay in Deal, and if you do, stay here.

Comfortable, well equipped home

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my husband, daughter and her two sons, 5 and 2 years old. Although the top flights of stairs were quite steep, the two-year-old managed them using the bannister rods for support.

It was ideal having a shower room and a bath room ( the en-suite,) for bathing children.

The kitchen diner was an ideal size and well equipped. The only thing we couldn't find was a sieve for straining couscous!

The bedrooms had adequate space for storage and the beds were comfortable.

On the first floor, the living room was an attractive comfortable space in which to relax and try to work out how to play 3-player chess! The internet connection was good.

We had been worried about the parking facilities, but it all worked out fine, until the final morning, when my daughter got a ticket at 10.50, (the car should have been moved at 10.30) so be warned!

We found plenty to do in Deal, (castle, pier and time-ball tower,) Kingsdown, (enough sand at low tide for sandcastle building and access to Walmer Castle) and a trip to Broadstairs for a larger expanse of beach and rock pools.

We'd highly recommend the house, its position and convenience to amenities to suit young and old.

Lovely property, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time! Great property and a comfortable stay. It's set in a square surrounded by narrow lanes, full with variations of old buildings. Lovely to have beach 1 minute on your doorstep and many shops nearby.

Charming, Cosy and in Great location.

  • 5 of 5

Having been to Deal earlier in the year on a fishing trip I treated my husband to, I thought it would a great place for my Mum who loves antiques but is getting on and so needs everything close. I booked this house as it was more suitable to bring my mum for the stairs. It was lovely. We were greeted by the the key holder and told about all the best places to go and the facilities. The house is modern and really clean but with all the charm you would expect from a grade 2 listed building. We could not fault it. Parking was free at the end of the street at the sea front which is only a few 100 yards away. Great for the fishing and beach combing.

Everyone we met was really friendly and walking for my mum was great because it is so flat and only a few hundred yards from the town. There are plenty of good places to eat.

I can thoroughly recommend it we will definitely be going again.

Location

Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

Deal has a pebble beach literally one minute's walk from the house. Deal also boasts a fine pier (used by keen fishermen) with a pleasant café serving breakfast, snacks and light meals all day. Further along the coast, just a short drive away are the sandy beaches of Broadstairs and Pegwell Bay.

Travel:

Deal is located on the Kent coast, just 8 miles from the Dover Ferry Terminal (perfect of a quick day trip to France). It is a two hour drive from London and can be reached via Dover (M2) or via Folkestone (M20), continuing along the A258 coastal road to Deal. Frequent trains depart from London St Pancras or Waterloo East stations, and the journey takes between 2- 2.5 hours. Gatwick Airport is a 2 hour drive.

Distances:

Blue Skies is located in the town centre, just a minute’s walk from the beach & 10 minute’s walk from Deal Station. There is a good selection of shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants, all within walking distances of the house. This is an area steeped in history; with three historic Cinque Port castles in Dover, Deal & Walmer, the White Cliffs of Dover (8 miles), the charming old historic port of Sandwich (5 miles), the medieval Catherdral at Canterbury (15 miles) and Dicken's Broadstairs(18 miles).

Further Details:

Deal is a lively, friendly and sociable place, most certainly due to the abundance of its interesting pubs and restaurants! It's a great place to come to spend time with friends, to enjoy good food and bracing walks in the fresh sea air. There is a good choice of restaurants and cafes, some specialising in seafood, of course! The Astor Theatre has recently re-opened and offers varied theatrical and musical shows

For children, there is the pier, amusement arcades, ice-cream parlour, the beach and the sea, as well a kiddies paddling pool (summer only) a pitch and putt course, Tides swimming pool with wave machines, a Maritime museum and the Time Ball Museum. The Conservation area is virtually car free and the terrain is completely flat, which is ideal too for anyone with young children or walking difficulties.

There are many specialist food shops, including an excellent fishmonger, a well-stocked organic shop, a health food shop, an authentic Italian bread shop and cafe plus many colourful boutiques selling, clothes, accessories, bric a brac and antiques. There is even an M&S and Sainsburys for those who can't live without them! Deal also has a weekly Saturday market and a Farmer's Market on Wednesdays.

There are also many varied activities available locally for everyone in the family to enjoy - such as walking, cycling, sea-fishing, first-class golf on Deal and Sandwich courses, as well as day trips by ferry or by Eurotunnel to France to stock up on your wine and food.

Deal is an attractive small town, full of character and is an ideal choice for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday at any time of year.
