3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment within 5 minutes walk of Sao Martinho do Porto's beautiful cockleshell shaped beach

The complex is on the edge of town with views from the two balconies, to the countryside and hills beyond, and yet the beach and town are just a short stroll away. For those lazy days there is a swimming pool and a tennis court to enjoy. Sao Martinho has not been over-developed and is surrounded by interesting, historical places to visit and other beautiful beaches along the coast to the north and south. The stunning shell shaped bay can be enjoyed at one of the many small bars and restaurants along the seafront. The sandy beach and calm protected waters are ideal for children and yet beyond the bay the surf awaits the more adventurous. There are many different activities available including water-sports, horse riding and mountain biking. For the golfers, there are various courses in the surrounding area.

Notes on accommodation: There is a heating/air-con unit in each of the 3 bedrooms and also in the kitchen and living room. The living room also has a wood burning stove. The apartment is reached by lift or stairs from a spacious main entrance. The main door leads into a large hall area with storage cupboards. Underground parking is included with direct lift access to the first floor. Outside: The main balcony (accessed from both the lounge and kitchen) has a table and chairs for outside dining. The second balcony (accessed from the lounge), has further furniture to enable you to enjoy that sun downer moment! The shared swimming pool and tennis court are situated in the complex gardens, adjacent to the central courtyard and apartment block. There are changing rooms with showers and toilets in the basement area which can be reached directly from the pool or car park. The sun loungers for the pool are stored in the basement next to the changing rooms. Utility Room: The kitchen contains all the usual utility appliances but the hall cupboards also contains a vacuum cleaner, iron with board, brooms, mops etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The apartment is cleaned at an additional cost of 85 euros prior to your arrival with clean linen and towels included. This fee is paid to my local representative on arrival. Separate beach towels are provided. Other: The hallway is fitted with a bookcase where you'll find an information folder containing information about the apartment, Sao Martinho and the local region. It is also fitted with an entryphone connected to the main entrance to the apartment block

Lovely spacious clean apartment

Really enjoyed our stay in this apartment. It was very well kept, spacious and clean. The air-con in all rooms is great and the apartment has wifi in the living-room - indispensable to our teenagers. The swimming pool is a good size and we managed to have a couple of games of tennis(Ana very kindly gave us tennis rackets and balls) although we were only there for three days. There was also a lilo and inflatable ring for guests in the cupboard and we added a couple of boogie boards which we couldn't take home! The apartment is situated just outside the centre of Sao Martinho and is a comfortable walk to the seafront and all the restaurants.

The bay is beautiful and much bigger than I imagined. We tried the famous chicken shop and it lived up to its reputation. We also went to Samar restaurant and had lovely paella. Obidos is definitely worth a visit and we had a lovely afternoon on one of the beaches just south of Peniche. It is a lovely area well worth exploring.

Spacious, clean, bright and good location

We had a wonderful week in this apartment. It’s a spacious apartment, very clean and all linens provided even beach towels which is very useful. All the rooms have good storage for unpacking. And the showers in each bathroom are powerful. The kitchen has most utensils you need for your stay. The lounge and dining area are a good size and the front balcony offers a nice sun set view over São Martinho do Porto. The pool is very clean and has sun loungers available. And with a toddler in our party, the little see-saw and slide on the premises was another perk. Having Ana available right from the beginning was really a bonus, Ana helps talk you through the apartment and can suggest some delicious places to eat in town. Ana really went out her way to make us feel welcome and was always contactable, if we needed her which we did for a boiler issue that was swiftly and easily dealt with. I’d thoroughly recommend this apartment, for value for money and location. São Martinho do Porto is just a delightful place. It’s good to note, we didn’t hire a car and didn’t have any difficulty getting supplies from the mini Mercado just a few minutes’ walk away and the centre (café/ restaurants) and the beach are just a 10 minute walk down the road. We are hoping to return next year!

I'm also glad you liked SMP and the surrounding area - indeed you can do without a hire car if staying in the immediate area, although to go further afield, I'd generally advise a hire car for at least a couple of days. I'd be delighted to see you back - in the meantime, enjoy the rest of the summer.

The apartment and the area are both so beautiful.

The apartment is just magnificent - photos don't do it justice. I was here with my teenage boys who loved the apartment and the surrounding area. There is so much to do and see - from the historical towns to the beautiful coast.

Richard (the owner) was lovely to work with throughout the whole booking process and was always willing to provide help and feedback.

On our arrival, Ana was a fantastic person to welcome us to the apartment and give us advice on Sao Martinho do Porto and the surrounding area. And when we needed help she replied to a text message in a couple of minutes with a full and detailed response.

Not only would I recommend this apartment and area to everyone, I also intend to come back here again soon.

Fantastic apartment in a fantastic location. Stunningly clean with everything you need. Excellent facilities including swimming pool with sun loungers and showers, tennis court and basketball area. Also included was a parking space in a secure underground car park. Everywhere was kept spotlessly clean. We were met by the lovely Ana who filled our fridge and informed us of what to do and where, and was always available at the end of the phone for any problems we may have had. The apartment had the most valuable wi-fi (best news for teenagers!!!) and TV. 2 balconies to enjoy a beer or glass of Sangria. Visited many local sites and beaches. A true taste of Portugal where the locals were exceptionally friendly. Plenty of good places to eat nearby, but if you've got a car it's worth travelling further afield as well. Amazing seafood restaurants in the village plus a chicken shop with the best chicken, rice and chips.

A beautiful place to stay and we would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday with family or friends.

Sao Martinho's cockle-shell bay and white sandy beach is a few minutes walk from the apartment. The waters are perfectly calm and ideal for young families. 10 minutes drive north are the beaches of Nazare - ideal for surfers. Similarly, 10 minutes drive south brings you to Foz with similar white sandy beaches, ideal for just relaxing or for the energetic, taking on the waves.


The apartment is situated 100kms north of Lisbon Airport - approximately 1 hours drive by motorway. Porto Airport is approximately 200kms further north - approximately 2 hrs drive by motorway. Whilst the apartment can be reached from either airport by coach or train, a hire car is recommended, not least to enable you visit the wonderful historic towns of the region.


South - medieval walled town of Obidos. Peniche - superb harbour front restaurants. Barlengas Islands - Nature reserve perfect for bird watchers. Santarem - gothic city, and the palace, church and monastery at Mafra. Sintra - UNESCO world heritage site. North - Alcobaca, another UNESCO site. Boasts Portugal's largest church. Fatima - a pilgrimage destination on a par with Lourdes. Leira, Porto do Mos and Tomar - fabulous castles. Caldas Da Rainha - sprawling spa town. All within 1 hours drive.

Further Details:

There is a daily morning market (except Mondays) in Sao Martinho that provides fresh fruit, vegetables and bread plus a wide selection of local produce. There are several small family-run supermarkets in the town itself as well as the recently opened Intermarche.

Portugal is the cheapest Western European country so holidaymakers opt to eat out most nights. Recommended restaurants are A Casa - excellent service and fresh fish you can choose. Carvalho - on Main St in the Old Town Centre, level with the back of Hotel Atlantica - very good value. O Farol - located on the beach with the best views value. Portobellos - excellent pizza/pasta with fabulous views of the bay. Martinhos - if you are missing real home-cooked food, then this is the place to visit. Meu Jardin - Inexpensive but serves wonderful fish and steak dishes - 10 minutes drive toward Nazare. Also try Hotel Capitao for afternoon tea on the veranda. A real treat.

Various boat and fishing trips can be arranged from the harbour and a new boardwalk through the sand dunes to Salir do Porto has just been constructed. Many activities including various water sports, horse and mountain bike riding can all be organised in the town.
