This beautiful property is set amongst the famous vineyards and sunflower fields of Cognac. It has been lovingly restored to provide comfortable accommodation whist still retaining many of the original charming features. The Charente-Maritime with it's exhilarating micro-climate, offers much interest.
The Atlantic coast is only an hour away with it's amazing beaches at Royan, Ile d'Oleron, Fouras, Chatalaillon Plage and Ile de Ré. Alternatively, you can take advantage of the local countryside, walks in the vineyards and woods surrounding the hamlet, or cycle the myriad of peaceful lanes.
The park at Cognac is a must for the kids. Try canoeing or fishing on the Charente river, or visit the superb Aquarium at La Rochelle and Zoo at La Palmyre. For the golfing enthusiast there are courses at Cognac, Saintes and La Rochelle.
You can explore the Marais Poitevin (Green Venice), visit historic towns such as Angouleme (45 mins), Poitiers (75 mins), Saintes (20 mins), La Rochelle (75 mins), the Cognac distilleries (15 mins) or even Futuroscope (90 mins). There are numerous good (and reasonably priced) restaurants in the area and the superb local markets offer an amazing range of fresh seafood, farm produce and cheeses.
The cottage is an ideal base for classic car rally enthusiasts as we have undercover off road parking parking for 5 cars, and can accomodate 5 couples when using our second gite.
We first came to France when my parents bought a property in Brittany, and soon fell in love with the easy lifestyle, endless summer sun, stunning countryside and of course the food. Now myself and my family have moved here permanently (five years ago) to enjoy the best of what this beautiful region has to offer.
Amanda Dickinson purchased this house in 2005
After searching long and hard in the Charente, we finally settled on this area for many reasons: The beauty of the countryside with endless vineyards and fields of golden sunflowers. Knowing that we were only 50 mins from some of the best beaches in Europe. The strong attraction of historic towns such as Saintes and Cognac and the stunning port of La Rochelle. The variety of attractions for children such as zoos, aquariums, water parks and hopping over to the islands of Isle de Re and Isle D'Oleron. Being amongst such amazing gastronomy, markets and wonderful seafood!

We stayed for seven days in May 2016 in Maison Cerisier and found it to be excellent and very clean and comfortable with a view over the pool and well kept garden .We will definitely revisit in the not to distant future .
Highly Recommended . The owners Amanda and Ian were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble.( Sandra and Bernard Callac.)
We had a lovely time in this property, there is everything you need for a excellent holiday, the pool and the summer house are lovely, our little girl loved the play house and all the toys in the house, we enjoyed the pool table and table football in the games room. We had some great trips out to nearby Cognac, la Rochelle with a fantastic aquarium and enjoyed cycling around the local area including woodland tracks with horses, donkeys & goats on route! So lovely we are looking to come back with friends.
This is a beautiful cottage with facilities of the highest standard! I spent a week here with my family and had a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable holiday. The accommodation is beautifully maintained, is equipped with everything you need inside and out including, a pool, bikes, toys, wendyhouse and a stream!! The owners are delightful and very knowledgable about the area, places to visit, eateries etc. The property is exactly as described and I can thoroughly recommend this as the ideal spot for a great holiday in perfect surroundings.
The property was exactly as described, if anything the description failed to do it justice. Spotlessly clean, beautifully appointed, and maintained to the highest of standards to provide everything anybody could need for a perfect stay. Nothing was too much trouble for Amanda and Ian, who are the perfect hosts. Available and helpful when needed, but never intrusive. I will happily recommend Maison Cerisier to anyone looking for a base for a wonderful holiday in this beautiful part of France. The location has something for everyone. Within easy reach of the coast and all it offers, and close to many other fascinating attractions (both historical and natural). We particularly enjoyed the many chateaux, and found the flora and fauna a constant source of pleasure. The peace and tranquillity of the local countryside is a joy. The proximity of beautiful cities like Cognac and Saintes with their cultural and gastronomic delights is a bonus. A visit to a Cognac house is a must, and a wander around Saintes on a Saturday market day would be another recommendation.
Just about the perfect holiday location!
A truly wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of busy family life. A converted barn to the highest standards. Very quiet, with an inviting pool to cool off in the afternoon sun. A well resourced games room for our children aged 7, 10 and 14 to relax in, with a large amount of independence.
Would recommend this property to any family who wants to escape to a secluded part of France to relax, relax and relax. Only 20 minutes drive for evening entertainment etc if you wish or 50 minutes to the beaches on the west coast. Must finish with huge compliments to the English speaking family who own the property, can't do enough to make you feel welcome.
We stayed at Maison Cerisier for a week in July. Ian and Amanda were instantly welcoming, the gite was well equipped and spotlessly clean and the location beautiful. Best of all, the kids made instant friends with Ian and Amanda's son, Caden and we had a week of relaxing with happy kids playing in the pool or in the games room. No 'I'm bored' and no squabbling. Ian and Amanda have a wealth of knowledge about what to do in the local area - from where to get your groceries to great days out with the family. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Maison Cerisier to our friends (in fact, we have) and would love to go back again. The area itself is beautiful and you can explore the city of Cognac, travel slightly further afield to the beach or visit small local villages and try out local produce. Lots to do but to be honest, the gite and the pool were so lovely, we spent lots of time relaxing, reading books and playing with the children. We left a relaxed and happy family - and only wished we could have stayed for longer.
