About Francesco

In the villa “Il giardino di Isabella” that belongs to my family from generations I've been living with my wife and three children for many years. In 1990 our sons went out from Sicily for specialization studies, and I embarked on a new activity in northern Italy, in the tourist sector. Ten years after I decided to come back and keep on my work at home. I love Sicily and I hope that many people discover its glamour, staying in my house.

Francesco purchased this villa in 1890

What makes this villa unique

The villa is sited in the middle of the east coast of the Sicily, it is a strategic point from where you can visit many interesting sites. First of all Etna volcano with possibility of guided excursions to the crater. Trekking, mountain bike tours, walking in the park of Etna, wine tasting. Taormina, the Greek theatre and the season of “Arte Festival “. Piazza Armerina and the Roman “Villa del Casale”. If you prefer a relaxing holiday with your family or friends, the peaceful of the park, the swimming pool, between the sea and the volcano, is an ideal resort for your comfort with the opportunity, on request, to enjoy at the villa, an health programme (beauty treatments, massages), typical Sicilian dinners, cooking lessons, yoga and pilates courses.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"Dear Maria and Francesco,

Unfortunately our vacation has now ended but we will always have fond memories of our week at your delightful home. Thank you for your kind hospitality and assistance in finding our way around your beautiful countryside. We were enchanted with the spectacular show put on by Etna. Attached is a photo I took from our bedroom window.

Such a Nice time in the most charming villa.

The garden is like out of this World. The House is old, but very charming and the owners so very hepfull and kind. Rosaria - the housekeeper- tales good Care of the household and cooks a fantastic dinner. Don’T miss that.

In october the House Can be a little Dark and cold. We expirienced a lot of mosquitoes- so bring repelliant.

beautiful villa and gardens

  • 5 of 5

house is as lovely as it looks, old but full of character and really good sized rooms and 4 bathrooms. Gardens are lucious and the pool large, clean and refreshing.

Rosaria is great and discrete as housemade but its a steep charge for something you may not really need. nothing in the scruffy surounding area that you can walk to which is disappointing.

we had quite a few day trips, savoca is worth it and a lovely place to swim at santa maria la scala

A quiet and leafy paradise

  • 4 of 5

We have recently returned from a week spent at this charming villa nestled in the foothills of Mount Etna. There were 11 of us in total including 4 children ranging 22 months through to 8 years old and we all had a wonderful time. The house is charming and grand and the faded glamour lends the place a wonderful romanticism. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable and offer different views over the grounds, the sea and Etna. The stars of the show are undoubtedly the beautiful mature gardens that afford welcome shade and tranquility and frame a wonderful view down to the sea and the huge pool which the children barely left. A gardener attends early every morning to ensure everything is spick and span. The place is not packed with mod cons but did have good wifi and for us that more than sufficed. We loved it. I would recommend to anyone in search of rest and relaxation. Maria was a wonderful host, happily answering any questions and informing us about local amenities and places to visit. The cleaner was a wonderful lady and we were all pleased to greet her smiling face in the morning. Thank you Maria, Francesco and Rosalia for a very memorable holiday we hope to be back again soon.

This villa is quite cheap for a reason. It would have been very beautiful, in the 1960's.

  • 2 of 5

The villa is dated and so not very comfortable. Also beware!! She will charge you for the cleaner and the air conditioning!! So I got a third back out of my quite large deposit, quite annoying. Also the big BBQ doesn't exist, it was destroyed by the wind apparently.....the coast here is rocky and crowded and there are not really any water sports to speak of. The cleaner is lovely and very helpful but at that price she needs to be!!

Owner's Response: The villa is exactly as it is advertised : it is a sicilian ancient family's residence with fine eighteenth century pices, valuable pictures, very appreciated by all our guest. It is located on a hill on the Etna slopes and the nearest beach are lava rocky beaches, but 15 km far there are pebble and sandy equipped beaches , turistic ports until Taormina . It is not an IKEA house in a seaside location. About the cleaning service and conditioning ,In the site , looking at the prices, it is advertised : " not included in the price : obligatory daily cleaning and conditioning according to consumption." It is not a surprise! The BBQ zone has been only displaced, they did BBQ every night.

Wonderful for family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just had an amazing 3 generation family holiday at the villa. Sometimes online photos give an inflated impression but we thought the property, grounds and pool were even more spectacular than advertised. Everything was spotless and Rosaria the maid did an excellent job and was most helpful. Owners Francesco and Maria were delightful and attentive and responded rapidly to any requests we made. We all spent the majority of our time at the villa, a wonderful place to relax, swim, play games and escape the busy lives that our family lead. We certainly recommend this lovely very traditional villa to anyone who wants a similar holiday.

A Sicilian dream, pinch yourself to check its true

  • 5 of 5

As the modern remote controlled gates open the view through ancient pines of the 160 year old Sicilian Manor house takes your breath away. The house is spacious, decorated in classic style and adorned with fine antiques. The airy rooms have splendid high ceilings, air con’ and wifi to compliment the traditional tiled floors, shuttered windows and balcony views of Mount Etna to the front and Ionian Sea to the rear. The breakfast terrace overlooks mature and beautiful gardens. Loungers wait for sunworshippers beside the 10m x 6m pool, bordered by the lush greenery, palms and wild grape vines. The Barbeque area and large lawns were popular with our party of 9 which included a 5 and 7 year old & 19 month toddler. Garden lighting activates automatically at night offering safe access to the outdoor facilities and spacious private parking area. Owners Francesco & Maria graciously welcomed us with useful information about local shops, restaurants & sites of interest. Housekeeper Rosaria was a blessing too, very friendly, discreet & helpful in taking care of all washing & cleaning needs. She even found time to put a sticking plaster on the occasional young grazed knee. It felt hard to leave our island idyllic but the delights on the nearby East coast awaited us. Taormina a jewel with its Amphitheatre, ancient streets, boutiques and picturesque views at every turn also nearby towns of Acireale & Zafferina Etna are perfect for a meal out, to see a festival or to grab a granita. Catania city and airport is only half an hour away & has a cosmopolitan city centre and historic old town, Syracuse and Messina a little further along the coast are immersed in centuries of history and culture & Piazza Armerina is a pleasant hours’ drive through the interior of Sicily to see the mosaics in the Roman Villa. A travellers tip: Pack mosquito repellent to avoid unwanted visitors at those chilled out alfresco evenings and remember your villa is at the edge of rural Sicily which wakes at sunrise to the charming call of the local rooster; we named him Garibaldi, light sleepers might be advised to pack comfy silicone earplugs. Early risers don’t lose heart the local baker’s opens at dawn. Be the first in the queue for fresh croissants, “Arancini” Traditional Sicilian rice balls and delicious “Cannoli” pastries. All makes for a most memorable holiday. I felt so much at home that back in the UK, I’ll be checking my family tree for Sicilian ancestors. I wanted to stay forever.
