About the Owner

I am a part time veterinary surgeon with two adult daughters, several dogs, cats and tortoises. I am around some of the time but leave the house early and get back late on working days. I am available most evenings to solve problems or to discuss where the best pubs and restaurants, walks, events and places to go can be found. Several guests have returned to stay with me, saying the Chapel is so well situated and comfortable and Dorset is so very beautiful. I hope you will think so too. If you are looking for solitude and peace and quiet I will say hello when you arrive and goodbye when you leave.

A wonderful find

  • 5 of 5

We arrived after a very long journey with a five year old who just wanted to explore. The chapel itself is gorgeous and the surrounding area heaven on earth. Everything we wanted was supplied and supermarkets down the road ideal for the wekly shop. The weather spoilt us and on beach every day. Gill who owned the chapel was soon befriended by our grandson as was nearly everyone else in the village and i think the village restored its natural calm when we left. We will definitely return and re live our wonderful experience.

Back to the Chapel

  • 5 of 5

The Chapel is lovely with well thought out accommodation and facilities without losing the original architecture. Brought up as a Methodist it was the holiday home I was immediately drawn to! As added bonus is the garden with seating strategically placed to catch the sun through the day and evening. Everything is comfortable and well planned and a perfect spot to explore Dorset from. We came across it on the Internet and were delighted when we stayed there. A bit quirky and different with all the mod cons you could want. One to keep going back to!

Location

From the Owner

I am Dorset born and bred and returned to live here and raise my children after years working in London and the Far East. It is a lovely place to live and work and especially for children to grow in, the sea is close and is a presence always felt or heard while the friendly chalk downs, curious fossils and archaeological finds are a source of fascination for old and young. The climate in Dorset is very favourable with more sunshine hours than other areas in England and even softer rain.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : The White Horse Pub at 0.75 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Burton Bradstock at 6 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

Nearest coast is 3 miles walking with a beach 4 miles by car, Weymouth beach is approximately half an hour away, National Sailing Academy at Portland 35 minutes away.

Travel:

Weymouth port to Cherbourg and the Channel islands 40 minutes. Dorchester station 9 miles.

Use of a car is more or less essential as public transport rarely strays to the village and there are fiercely steep hills to cycle up or down to get to the valley.

Distances:

So much to do and see; the Jurassic coast starts 2 miles away with fossiling at Seaton (7 miles) and Charmouth (10 miles), there is a ski solpe at warmwell (~16 miles) and zorbing 12 miles, a huge sandy beach at Weymouth (10 miles) and fishing trips from West Bay (5 miles). Splendid pubs and restaurants everywhere. Maps of the whole area are supplied for the use of guests of the Chapel.

Further Details:

Markets in Briport and Dorchester, farmers markets most Saturdays - details provided at the Chapel.

Facilities

From the Owner

The Chapel is comfortable, situated in a conservation area in the west of the county but very close to the coast. The conversion to accommodation is elegant with much thought given to keeping period details and making the most of the available space. It is furnished for 3 people so there is no squash and no sofa bed. It has a lovely little lawned garden with a pergola over a patio for breakfast or dinner - weather permitting.
