Cottage in Bodmin, Cornwall - Secluded Location, Hidden Away In A Pretty Garden In The Heart Of Historic Bodmin Town

"Just wanted to drop you a line or two to thank you both for helping to make our stay in Cornwall so enjoyable. The cottage was lovely, ideally situated and just like home from home."

Kind Regards

Elise and Steve Walker,May 2014

Although hidden in a secluded location, Garden Cottage is easily accessible, with everything on your doorstep. Bodmin’s shops, pubs, eateries, tourist information centre and town museum, and the town park with children’s playground and skate park are within 5 minutes walk. The beacon nature reserve, perfect for picnics and kite flying, the steam railway, historic Bodmin jail, military museum and the camel trail for cycling and walking are all within 15 minutes walk. So park that car and relax-there’s plenty to do. Only a 5 min car drive away are Lanhydrock golf club, and beautiful Lanhydrock house, a fantastic national trust property-one of the best in England we think. Don't forget Trago mills: there’s no where else like it!

About the Owner

Nigel and myself, Sherry, moved to Bodmin in 2002, after coming on holiday to Cornwall for 20 years.

We renovated the sweet little cottage that backs onto our house, and are now pleased to welcome you to Bodmin. With fresh paintwork, new carpets throughout, and updated furniture and furnishings, together with an obsessive attention to hygiene, we are very proud of the quality of standards you will find here. At the moment, we haven't had it tourist board rated, but believe it offers all the comfort and cleanliness you would expect from a 4 star property.

We love welcoming guests to our corner of Cornwall, helping as much as is wanted or simply or leaving in peace to relax!

Garden Cottage Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is in an ideal location for exploring mid-Cornwall. Although it can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children, it is ideal for a couple, it's very well appointed, clean and comfortable, a real home-from-home. There is no on-site parking but you are able to load/unload right outside the garden gate and your hosts provide a parking permit for a car park just around the corner. Sherry and Nigel are very welcoming and go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Bodmin town is perfectly located for visiting north and south coasts, Eden Project and Heligan Gardens. The town has lots of supermarkets as well as smaller independent shops and pubs but a lack of restaurants within walking distance. It's a good job the cottage is well equipped to produce your own fine dining! We would recommend this cottage to friends and relatives who like walking/sightseeing but it wouldn't be suitable for anyone with limited mobility.

Booking the cottage was extremely straightforward and we received detailed instructions from our hosts with emergency contact details for extra reassurance. We had never used 'Owners Direct' before but wouldn't hesitate to do so again.

Owner's Response: Hello "The Walkers", and thank you for your lovely review. We do try hard to ensure everyone has a great time and makes the most of their stay. We are always very pleased to get good feedback. With regards to evening dining, you have a point that there's nothing gourmet on the doorstep. However there are three reasonable eating pubs within walking distance, and one hotel that welcomes non residents for dinner. Nigel is proposing to launch a dine-in supper menu for guests soon, delivered from our house next-door to the cottage. He is an excellent cook! A smart new restaurant will also be opening this summer in Mount Folly Square opposite the house, so things are looking up.

Excellent place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 2 yr old daughter and I had a 2 week stay here and absolutely loved it. The facilities were great, the cottage kitchen cupboards were full of 'kitchen essentials' and there were plenty of towels etc provided.

The cottage had a lovely 'home from home' feeling and the cottage owners were very friendly and welcoming.

We found plenty to do around the area and still had things we wanted to do when we came home.

We were so pleased with the cottage we have already booked to go back next year. We would definitely recommend this cottage to a friend or relative.

The location of the cottage meant we were close to all the main routes around Cornwall enabling us to explore Cornwall whilst avoiding many of the little Cornish lanes. This was a definite plus for my husband and meant the journeys were a lot more relaxing!!

For a little 2 bed cottage it is the best one we have stayed in and we can't think of anything that was really lacking or we would change!

Location

From the Owner

We moved to Cornwall in 2002, having fallen in love with the county in the 1980's. We holidayed here as often as we could, before finally making the BIG MOVE to Bodmin. We bought a lovely old town house, gave it alot of TLC, and opened as a four diamond rated B&B in 2003. In the same year, we started our food wholesaling business, which has been so successful we soon had to give up the B&B. We only sell locally made, artisan food and drink products, with over 3700 product lines in our list! We love living in Bodmin, an historic, interesting town, with lots to do locally. Unlike alot of coastal Cornish towns, it feels like a proper all-year round community. With it's central location, Bodmin is the ideal base for your break. So,come on down, and get a taste of "living the dream"!

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: A travel cot and high chair can be provided on request. Outside: Free Parking! See Below. The cottage shares the pretty courtyard garden with us, the owners (we live next door). However, we want you to think of the garden as part of your holiday experience. We are out all week anyway, and will respect your privacy at the weekends, so on fine days please use the barbeque and outside seating area. There’s room to store your bikes too. We don't have our own parking, but do not let this put you off. There are two car parks a few steps away, which we and all our guests have used, without incident, for many years. There is a handy area of pavement outside the house for unloading and loading stuff, kids, more mature family members, surfboards etc. We provide a parking pass for the nearest car park, two minutes walk away on the flat. Don’t forget, you can pull up any time outside the house to load/ unload. Utility Room: No separate Utility room, but welcome to use our tumble dryer if needed! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linens are included in the price, and are changed weekly. The property is cleaned weekly.
