Apt 2 - Sopranino Giardino

All the windows look out over the garden and the rooftops of Venice. It is very quiet at all times, and the rough beams combined with the Venetian terrazzo floor make it particularly agreeable. It has one bedroom with queen size bed, bathroom, sitting-room, and large kitchen with a dining-area. In the sitting room a 19th century bed-sofa can accommodate an extra guest. The furniture is mostly 18th and 19th century.

Apt 5 - Mezzanino giardino

It faces West and all the rooms have a close-up view of the garden.

It has one bedroom with queen size bed, bathroom, living-room and kitchen. It also has an elevated alcove with twin beds.

It is particularly suitable for guests who do not want to climb stairs.

It is almost entirely decorated with antique family fabrics.

About the property

Palazzetto da Schio

Palazzetto da Schio overlooks Rio della Fornace, a wide and peaceful canal, between the Guggenheim Collection and the Basilica della Salute, only one vaporetto stop away from Saint Mark's Square. It is therefore very quiet, away from the noisy crowds, and, at the same time, close to the heart of Venice. The house provides modern comfort, but preserves all the charm of the antique family furniture of the da Schio's family.

About Elisabetta Steiner

I grew up in this house where my family has lived for many generations, so I love it very much. When guests come here I like sharing it with them and I do my very best to make them comfortable so that they may also love this house a little and retain happy memories of their holidays here. Venice is not only the Dogal Palace and Rialto Bridge: it was built with loving care by hundreds of thousands of Venetians through the centuries and our homes are the living testimony of this tradition which I try to continue.

Why Elisabetta Steiner chose Venice

I didn't buy this house: my family has lived here for many generations. I feel lucky, living here, because the area is very quiet, away from the noise of the crowds and of the traffic, and yet only one vaporetto stop away from St. Mark's square. It is also well served by the "traghetto" (gondola-ferry) close to the house and by the vaporetto stops of Salute, Accademia and Zattere.

What makes this apartment unique

I manage my apartments and take care of my guests personally, not through an agency as most owners do in Venice. I also live in the house and my door is open all day. If my guests need anything, want help or information, they simply drop in for a chat. I like to share my house with the guests and let them experience life in a real Venetian home. The furniture is mostly antique from the 17th and 18th centuries. People who come here can enjoy the "real thing", not imitation. Obviously, what did not exist in the past centuries, like washing machines, microwave ovens and WIFI Internet is modern and up to date.

Lovely stay at Palazzetto de Schio

  • 5 of 5

The property is ideally situated on a canal in the quieter Dorsoduro section of the city, close to two vaporetto stops, making it very convenient to access all of the city's sites while providing an oasis of calm, away from the bustling crowds of tourists. Here you have an opportunity to experience "real life" in Venice! The owners are charming and extremely helpful in answering any questions you may have and providing suggestions for restaurants, etc. The apartment was very spacious, clean, comfortable and well-furnished, with everything one could possibly need.......right down to rubber boots in case of "high-water", which, not surprisingly, can occur in Venice. (Happily, we were denied this particular experience.) Palazzetto de Schio was an excellent choice for our visit!

Ihr Palazetto in Venedig

  • 5 of 5

Diesmal wieder. Empfehlenswert.

A Taste of Real Venice

  • 5 of 5

Palazzetto da Schio speaks of an old world charm that is a rare find in today's modern and often frenetic world. It's location is perfect for those seeking peace, quiet and a sense of the real Venice. It is within a short walk to the Zattere, several vaporetto stops , Salute and the Accademia. Our apartment was spacious, well appointed and exceptionally clean with frequent maid service. Since I love to cook we chose apartment 2 with the larger kitchen. This proved to be ideal with every utensil and piece of kitchen equipment I needed and we loved the original 300 year old stone sink.

Contessa da Schio and her daughter Elisabetta Steiner are gracious, attentive and have thought of every detail. Contact before our trip to Italy was always prompt and efficient. They were on hand upon our arrival and immediately made us feel welcome and at home. Indeed Palazzetto da Schio provides an exceptional opportunity to not just visit Venice but to truly live Venice.

I could provide ongoing accolades and examples of what makes Palazzetto da Schio our ongoing first choice in Venice . But perhaps my final response to the Contessa's question ,"What can we do to improve ?" should best sum it up , "Don't change a thing. This has been perfect."

Live Like a Venetian!

  • 5 of 5

I am almost reluctant to post a review about Palazetto da Schio in the Dorsoduro section of Venice for fear my praise of this lovely spot will mean there won’t be room when next I try to book into this “find!” There are four different and classically-furnished apartments to rent in this small palace on a quiet canal adjacent to the Zattere--if you know Venice at all--that has been in the da Schio family for many years. Two flats overlook the small canal behind the magnificent Basilica Santa Maria della Salute, and two face the back. ALL are wonderfully quiet at night, which was a blessing, given the uproar of the Carnival season near the Piazza S. Marco while we were visiting. We had chosen Apartment #5 (only one flight up, which can be important if stairs are a problem; two of the flats require going up 2 sets of stairs), with a large master bedroom with a Queen-size bed, and a 3-foot high platform above the living room featuring twin beds—sleeping four in total, although there were only two of us on this visit. Our bathroom had an old-fashioned “claw and ball” type tub with a hand shower; a lighted, magnified mirror over the sink; and lovely terrazzo tile on the floors throughout the flat. Our kitchen turned out to be a Godsend with its ample refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, and the usual glassware, flatware, knives, dishes, appliances, etc., as this was a working trip and often we were too tired to go back out for an evening meal, so just scrambled some eggs and made toast a few of the 8 nights we were in residence. We were there in February with chilly evenings (often in the 30’s) and brisk days (no acqua alta this trip) and enjoyed being toasty warm, with plenty of duvets on the bed and sufficient heat. Our wonderful hostess cautioned us to turn off the lights and turn down the heat whenever we left our flat as utilities are charged at the end of one’s stay, depending on a very careful reading of the meters. In our case, we earned an “A+” and paid about $40 extra for the heat, light, and hot water we consumed during our week long stay. There are so many things we loved about residing in a true “neighborhood,” but to name a few: a local mobile phone is assigned each flat so you can make local voice calls in or out of the apartment at a fraction of the cost than if you used your US phone. The flat had wifi that worked well in the living room, which was vital for our purposes; and we were less than five minutes from the Salute vaporetto st

A week away in Venice

  • 5 of 5

Palazzetto da Schio was highly recommended to us by friends so we never really looked elsewhere. The flat was wonderfully located, out of the way in a quiet residential neighbourhood but still very close to all the sights as well as the grocery store and markets. There were two vaporetto stops to choose from and the Alilaguna to the airport stopped around the corner. The flat was clean and spacious for two people, everything was lovely and comfortable. There were even boots in the closet in case of an acgua alta! The owner was terribly nice, very helpful and always available to answer our questions.

We would definitely recommend the Palazzetto da Schio to friends and family.

We stayed in Palazzetto da Schio apartment from September 15 till September 22, 2014.

Renting this apartment was one of the best decisions we ever made. The house is beautiful, easy to reach from any point of arrival. It is located in quiet aria and in the same time it is close to main point of attraction of Venice.

The apartment is clean and comfortable; and there is the most important thing for independent travelers the wonderful host of this apartment- Anna da Schio. She is very friendly, always available to give advice and to help, so we felt save and taking care of.
