Apartment in Capo Vaticano, Ricadi, Calabria, Italy - Peaceful Location, 10 Minutes Walk From The Beach & Restaurants

Situated in a rural area 700 metres from Santa Maria beach and it's restaurants, supermarket and church. This 1st floor apartment in a block of 4 is located in the Delta Club Residences in a gated resort of only 14 apartments. The property is air-conditioned/heating and has a large covered balcony/veranda ideal for alfresco dining. The large pool with jacuzzi and children's section, sun loungers and a covered gazebo is within a landscaped garden with banana plants, olive, lemon, orange and palm trees. There is a beach volley ball court on the resort. The resort is 3 km. from the popular beaches of Grotticelle and 12 km. from the medieval picturesque town of Tropea which is the favourite tourist destination in Calabria. Within a 30 minutes drive you will find the modern shopping mall of the Vibo Center which starkly contrasts with the centuries old mountain villages, some of which you will find just a few kilometres from the coast.

About the Owner

My wife and I live in south west Wales where I was born. My wife is a Scot from Aberdeenshire. We first visited Calabria in 2007 and fell in love with it's stunning coastline, beautiful mountains, hills and old villages. The people are friendly and welcoming and the rural area on the west coast where we finally purchased, peaceful and tranquil with Tropea the picturesque medieval town only fifteen minutes drive away. We travelled all over Calabria on several visits and finally found this property that ticked all the boxes for us. The property was built in 2007 and we purchased in October 2008. The apartment is in a gated resort of only 14 apartments. There's a large swimming pool that has a jacuzzi and children's pool, a beach volley ball court and a large landscaped garden and orchard.

My family and I had a fantastic time at Delta Club Residences. The accommodation was clean and well kitted out and gave us everything we needed. Peter and Wendy were excellent ‘meet & greet’ hosts and very helpful.

Absolutely stunning views from the balcony! The 275° panorama was truly breathtaking and we witnessed some fantastic sunsets over Capo Vaticano. Having never been to Calabria before, the area was a real find. We liked the slow pace and the feeling of going back in time a bit. We went to some great coves and beaches and were amazed how blue and clear the water was – it was like the Caribbean or the Maldives, not the Mediterranean.

We would certainly consider going back to the area and it is good news that flights from London Gatwick to Lamezia are opening up on Saturday’s. We may well be in touch again! I have also passed on the details to several friends.

Apart from the wonderful view, the design and quality of the build of the property, the location of the resort in a rural setting on a small complex with a swimming pool was exactly what we were looking for. It has given us the choice of a private, tranquil and peaceful resort yet close enough to the busy beaches of Grotticelle and popular Tropea if more company is preferred. The apartment is only 700 metres from the beach with it's restaurants and shop. The mountain villages of Ricadi, San Nicola and Spilinga are only a short drive away and within a 25 minute drive you can be shopping in a modern shopping mall in the Vibo Center on the outskirts of Vibo Valentia. It is only an hours drive from Lamezia Terme airport and a train can take you to Ricadi train station 3 Km from the resort.

The sandy beach of Santa Maria is 700 metres away, a 10 minute down hill walk. Only 3km. away are the sandy beaches of Grotticelle with their water sports and eateries, the glorious beach and coastal views from Belvedere near the lighthouse at Capo Vaticano. Boat trips to the Aeolian Islands and Stromboli are available from Tropea harbour and from the beach at Grotticelle. Hiking, cycling, horse riding, scuba diving, beach and boat fishing are some of the other activities available in the area.


Ryanair flies direct from Stansted into Lamezia Terme (SUF) Airport a one hour drive to the resort. Alitalia & others fly to SUF. Use the trains from Ricadi Station to visit towns like Reggio, Scilla, Pizzo and Lamezia is an interesting way of visiting the area and seeing the coastline and countryside of Calabria.

The Ferry to Sicily at V. San Giovanni is a 90 mins drive, the Aspromonte Nat Park 2 hours and Scilla a 75 mins drive. To fully enjoy your holiday car hire is strongly recommended.


Lamezia Terme Airport: 65km. Ricadi Train Station: 3km. Ricadi Village: 2km. San Nicola: 3km. Santa Domenica: 9km. Spilinga famous for it's nduja: 8km. The historical medieval town of Tropea has all the facilities with banks, hospital, numerous restaurants, shops and cafes and is a 12km drive.

Vibo Valentia the main town of the province with its large shopping mall, the Vibo Center a 25 minute drive away.

The town centre of Vibo Valentia is a further 10 minutes drive from the Vibo Center.

Further Details:

The nearest supermarket and restaurants are at Santa Maria 700 metres down the hill. Many restaurants and pizzerias can be found in the area in the season, less so in the winter but a number are open all year. Ricadi, San Nicola and San Dominica have shops, bars, post Office, weekly markets. The nearest ATM is 4 km away and can be found on the left hand side of the road near the junction to the SP22 road and the Bussola Hotel coming from the direction of Capo Vaticano. The Sunshine Club Hotel is just a kilometre up hill from the apartment where hair dressing, beauty care, massage, fitness gymnasium, restaurant and other facilities are available to non-residents to use for a fee.

Other activities in the locality include bike hire, horse riding, Scuba diving and sea fishing. Power boat, canoe & pedalo boats are available for hire from various beaches nearby.

Boat trips to Stromboli and the Aeolian islands available from Tropea harbour.

A trip to Sicily is feasible, the ferry being a 90 minute drive away.

Changeover Day:
Change over day Saturday to Saturday during the peak period. This can vary out of season. Check in time is 1500 and check out time 1000 hours but this may be varied subject to agreement . Flexible change over days outside peak periods (July - August).

Notes on prices:
Minimum of 3 days rental for periods less than a week price on application.
10% discount for 2 week rental.
15% discount for 3 week rental.
20% discount for 4 week rental.
10% discounts available for 'last minute bookings' (within 4 weeks of arrival) and for 'Early bird' bookings ie if deposit is paid 6 months before start of holiday.

Booking Notes:
To confirm your booking a non-refundable 20% deposit (plus the refundable €100 (damage deposit) is required. The balance is to be paid 4 weeks before the start of the holiday. A mandatory supplement of €40 for the after cleaning service is to be paid with confirmation deposit. The €100 damage deposit will be repaid within 14 days of departure time (less any damage costs) if any.

The stunning 270 degree view from the balcony is breathtaking. The view transverses from Monte Poro from behind and side of the property to it descending into the sea with the south west coast of Calabria sweeping around to the Messina Straits and Sicily. The Aeolian islands are scattered along the horizon of the sea and the view finally comes around to the headlands of Santa Maria and Capo Vaticano. The apartment is well appointed with modern appliances eg air-con/heating, flat screen TV, DVD player, mini hi fi, free wifi, kitchen appliances eg toaster, kettle and microwave. A washing machine, vacuum cleaner, electric fan, steam iron and hairdryer are also available. There are many nearby restaurants and pizzerias open in the season and always some open out of season within a short drive.

  • Notes on accommodation: An air-conditioning/heating system has been installed. The apartment is suitable for children and a cot is available. Electricity, gas and water charges are included in the rental. Free wifi internet access available and a laptop is available for guests to use for e-radio, email, Skype, word processing etc. Outside: The large covered balcony has patio furniture comprising of a table and 6 chairs, a cushioned sun lounger & chair lounger, a gas barbecue with BBQ utensils, apron, gloves and fish holders. The shared swimming pool with jacuzzi and children's section is approximately 25 x 10 metres, 2 - 1.5 metres in depth. Sun loungers are available. The pool is open from June - September and can be closed to swimming before 0800 for cleaning. A covered gazebo is situated adjacent to the pool for shade and on the other side of the pool a beach volley ball court. The main car park is at the rear of the properties and there is an overspill car park next to the volley ball court. The extensive landscaped garden and orchard completes what is available outside the apartment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen are supplied and are included in the rental. A second set is available on request for a fee of €10 pp. The apartment is cleaned prior to arrival. An after cleaning supplement of €40 is charged and paid on arrival. Other: Inner hall with cupboard storing a hair dryer, vacuum cleaner, steam iron, ironing board, UV fly catcher, mops, buckets, clothes dryer and washing / cleaning materials, kitchen and toilet rolls.
