Villagehouse in St. Sever-Calvados, Nr. Vire, Calvados, Normandy - Quiet, walk to everything the village offers
A romantic villagehouse just steps to the main square. Spread over three floors, the house offers privacy but with easy access to all village amenities. It is tastefully decorated and quite functional. It is an ideal base for touring Normandy and Brittany for vacationing or house hunting.
We purchased out gite in 2008 after retiring from Canada. Kathy, has a very creative streak and has utilized this to make the place your "home away from".
Stay with us. You'll see it is a great little hideaway.

We are a English Canadian couple retired and living in Calvados. I spent my last working years as a College Professor teaching Tourism and Hospitality subjects. My wife Kathy, after retirement started staging homes to prepare them for sale. We are three here in Calvados, the third being our "teacup" Toy Poodle, Paschat who rules he roost.

Myself and my husband stayed at the gite in late August 2016. Really impressed with the quality of the accommodation and location. No points of interest that we wanted to visit were further than an hours drive away. Support running up to, during and after our stay have been perfect. Would not hesitate to recommend.
Perfect French cottage for a relaxing vacation
We wanted a French living experience and Gwen Cameron Cottage fit the bill perfectly. We arrived to a warm welcome by Richard as well as a gift of bread, eggs, cheese and wine! What more could anyone want! Parking was close and easy...no worries at all. The location was central to many wonderful places all within about an hour and the roads were a joy to travel. To name a few, we visited the D-Day beaches, Mont St. Michel. St. Malo, Bayeau and a bell foundry. Best of all, we visited small villages and soaked in the Normandy air. The cottage became our home very quickly. It had all the conveniences that we needed for our week's stay and one of the most comfortable beds of our whole trip. We would highly recommend this location to anyone.
Wet but wonderful
It was great to enjoy this French way of living in the rural area of St Sever. The cottage was exactly as described and perfect for us two. We slept so well after busy days visiting all the wonderful tourist sights - Bayeux, Mont Saint-Michel etc.
Richard is a great ambassador for the cottage and local knowledge.
It was disappointing that it rained heavily most of the week so we hope to return again and see everything in the sunshine.
charming character cottage, very well equipped.
the cottage was very welcoming after busy days sight seeing, and is a great base for visiting many different areas around, such as Le Mont St Michel, Jouillevile and Granville.
The cottage was immaculate upon arrival.
Very easy to get too and only 10 minutes from Vire or Villedou in either direction.
Sleeps 4 people comfortably with two at the top floor and two on the middle floor.
Kitchen had all the things needed for self-catering and a supermarket is about 3 minute walk. nearest bar is just over the road. the village is quite small and inactive, the abbey and gardens are lovely and well kept.
Very warm welcome from Richard and a nice fresh baguette and local cheese and eggs along with a bottle of wine, very nice after a long days travel.
negatives, just the lack of WiFi really. i was able to get a 3G signal, but roaming is expensive.
If staying in a cottage and seeing the surrounding areas is your thing, then i can certainly recommend this one.
Good base easy to find
Cottage is well equiped for a couple, and came with a welcoming snack pack of excellent local wine, fresh cheese, butter and bagette. We were met and welcomed by Richard who is a mine of information on the local area and parts beyond. He could not have been more helpful. Free parking was available in the village nearby, but we scored parking two doors down with the delightful old Mme in her private yard area. Bayeux and the D Day Landings Normandy beaches, Dinan, St Malo and Mt St Michel are all easy drives on good roads from here. Good restaurant selection for French based food if you look for it in Vire, 10/15 minutes drive away. Great seafood on the wharf at Granville. All close. This is a good base for these activities. Great, as always
My daughter and I have stayed here several times and when I managed to take a few days off at short notice, it was my first choice.
It's always clean and welcoming (a special thanks to Richard for the warm welcome and for the butter / eggs / wine & cheese that were waiting for us!) And apologies to Richard that we arrived just before dinner time on your Anniversary, but thank you for coming out to meet us and help us in with the bags all the same!
The property is well equipped and ideally situated for all of the things that you could want to do and visit in Lower Normandy, whether places like Villedieu-les-Poeles on the doorstep or places like Bayeux, Granville or Mont-St-Michel, an hour or so drive away. And there's always more to discover - we visited Champrepus Zoo this time and had a great time feeding popcorn to the pygmy goats. :)
So thanks again, to David, Kathy and Richard (and to Richard's wife - apologies again for giving Richard an excuse to get out of kitchen duties on your Anniversary, lol).
In summary, we had a great time and will definitely be returning.
From the Owner
“Why we chose France over Florida. We really wanted a chance to see Europe. We like the way of life in France, the pace and the people. In terms of value, France is way ahead of the "Sunshine State". no hurricanes! We bought Gwen Cameron Cottage our townhouse in early 2008 and named it after our two eldest children. We operated a B and B in Ontario, Canada for a number of years. Since both of us spent many years in the hotel industry we wanted to continue the "tradition" here in Normandy. Not sure if we would enjoy living here we purchased our love nest. It was no surprise that we soon found out we did and eventually bought another house to live in. So now is your chance to experience St. Sever. Easy access to towns and attractions. We know you'll enjoy the experience.”

Villedieu on Tuesday.Saint Sever offers 2 boulanger, 2 traiteur, a green grocer as well as a nice compact Le Carrefour ( open 7 days). In Vire you will find a LeClerc, a large Carrefour, as well as a Lidl and Aldi. Credit Agricole wit a bank machine is on the village high street. There are several doctors as well.
In addition, Vide greniers (tag sales, car boot sales, yard sales, et al) are great places to meet people and get great bargains.

There is a bank and pharmacie in the village, and if you fancy a coffee or a “ petit sieze” then try the Bar de Bocage, 100 metres away. .
If you want to eat out in the evening you have a choice of restaurants and small bistros. Le Vrai Normande, in Vire offers traditional Normandy cuisine. La Robberie, with it's lively informal atmosphere, offers a more cosmopolitan menu. Le Pied dans La Bouche, in Fontenermont just a 5 minute drive offers a variety of regional dishes.
Cider and Calvados are produced in the area and can be bought from local producers.
The brocantes (antique shops) are very interesting places to visit for an afternoon. the local brocante in St. Sever has over 1500m square feet of antiques for sale, everything from religious artifacts to walnut and chestnut furniture dating from the early 19th century. St. Sever Forest has hiking trails, small lake, a hermitage, (new this year, a Vita Parcours).

“This is our home in the heart of the village, yet out of the way. Quiet! Wonderful vistas over the chimney tops. We have many friends in the village. You can walk to the Forest of St. Sever in 5 minutes or in 60 seconds you can be sitting at the cafe/bar enjoying a latte or a beer and people watching. Many of our guests comment on the location and the ability to walk to all amenities. They also comment on the decor (Kathy's) and how homely it is. Make our home your home for you holidays!”
