Our tree-lined garden is child-friendly and has a fenced and heated swimming pool.

Les Baignades faces across the rear lawn to the swimming pool. The downstairs of this property is a spacious open-plan living area with dining table, sitting area and a fully-equipped kitchen.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms; one is a double-bedded room, the other has the flexibility to be set up for four people. There is a large bathroom on the first floor and an additional separate toilet on the ground floor.

Les Baignades has a private seating area with garden furniture and a barbecue.

Satellite TV and a DVD player are provided and a wifi Internet connection is available.

About the Owner

We are originally from Colchester but live here at La Tannerie all year round. We took the decision to 'give it a go' and gave up our jobs as a languages teacher and in the NHS in 2004. More than ten years later we are still enjoying the combination of the French lifestyle and a job that brings us into contact with a huge variety of clients. We still derive a great deal of pleasure out of seeing people enjoying their time at La Tannerie and take it as a huge compliment that many return year after year.

Having watched every episode of 'A Place in the Sun' we knew that we wanted to run a gite complex in the south west of France. We were familiar with parts of the Dordogne having spent many holidays there, but knew nothing of its neighbour, the Charente. But a long weekend was all it took for us to discover La Tannerie and put in an offer! The peaceful rolling countryside, reliable climate and easy connections with the UK made it a simple decision! Within an hour or so are the major cities of Bordeaux and Perigueux, the vineyards of Cognac, Bergerac and St Emilion, and the Atlantic coast with its resorts and fishing villages. The area is served by major airports at Bordeaux and Bergerac. Chalais is minutes from the main A10 and the TGV stops at Angouleme.

Coast/Beach:

The nearest seaside resort is approximately 1 hour by car at Royan. However, there is a very popular riverside beach at Aubeterre less than 10 minutes away.

Travel:

Calais - Chalais by road is a distance of 500 miles and takes about 8 hours driving time.

There are airports at Bergerac and Bordeaux (75 minutes by car) as well as Limoges, Poitiers and La Rochelle (2 hours)

Distances:

The nearest town is 100 metres away!

For larger cities Angouleme (30 miles) and Bordeaux (1 hour) are both well worth a visit.

Further Details:

Being situated right in the heart of the town means that all the facilities are within a minute or two's stroll.

Chalais has two large supermarkets, several bakers, butchers, cafes and restaurants as well as banks, dentists, doctors and chemists.

The supermarket nearest to La Tannerie has a petrol station and car wash.

Angouleme has a wide range of shopping, including three huge hypermarkets.
