About Sarah Morgan

I live in Battersea, London and regularly spend time in Cornwall and Devon. I enjoy Cornwall in all seasons, the winter months especially with walks along deserted beaches and cosy evenings in by the fire. My little boy is as happy braving a cold, blustery day, collecting driftwood and seaweed in November, as he is in high summer enjoying the warm rock pools on his favourite beach, Daymer Bay.

Sarah Morgan purchased this house in 2009

Why Sarah Morgan chose North Cornwall

I bought the cottage in 2009, spending much of my maternity leave modernising it. I have tried to do so in a way that is in keeping with the original style, using Cornish materials where possible. The cottage is a home, not a standard holiday let, with our family and friends regularly enjoying time there. I have put a lot of love and effort into creating a comfortable and personal home.

I grew up close by in Devon and having spent many happy, long holidays in New Polzeath and Daymer Bay each year with my parents and grandparents it was my dream to buy a house close by.

I love everything about the area, especially the beautiful beaches where I have played, surfed and sailed all my life.

Having travelled all over the world, I still think no where beats the camel estuary.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We absolutely loved the cottage, it is the perfect place to getaway from the mayhem of London. You have done a wonderful job of making it warm and welcoming. Everything was there that we needed. We used the double bed in the one room and put the baby in the cot in the other room. She was fine and settled into life in Cornwall as quickly as we did.

We cosied up with the fire on a couple of evenings and cooked up a storm with gorgeous local produce. We had fish and chips at Rick Stein's chippie and a meal out at his pub. We visited Padstow, Wadebridge, Port Issac and Bodmin Moor. Thanks again for letting us stay in your lovely place, we hope it won't be our last visit. Emma, February 2010

Location

Special interest holidays:

The Black Tor ferry runs from Rock to Padstow all year (times displayed on harbour board), and in the evening a water taxi is available which specialises in taking people to Padstow restaurants such as Rick Stein's (saving the drive to Padstow). Local fishermen offer trips for sea fishing from Padstow or Rock, with mackerel and pollock being the main catch.

Excellent pleasure trips are run from Padstow in powerboats or on the larger Jubilee Queen which tours local bays and islands. The Camel Trail, once the route of the old railway line, is a must for cyclists. It runs alongside the estuary from Padstow to Wadebridge and on to the upper reaches of the River Camel at Bodmin, bikes to suit all ages can be hired locally.

Coast/Beach:

This beautiful coastline with its contrasting remote rugged landscape, long stretches of sandy beaches and mild climate is the major attraction on Cornwall's Atlantic coast. The tidal waters of the estuary stretch from its mouth near Padstow and Rock, to several miles south of Wadebridge. This large inland area of calm waters is protected from the Atlantic Ocean and provides ideal conditions for all water sports. The area is perfect for small children who can play on the many sandy beaches.

Travel:

Tredrizzick, being minutes from the village of Rock and its beautiful beaches, is a favoured residential and holiday village. The cottage is a five minute drive from the beaches of Porthilly, Rock, Daymer Bay and Polzeath. The main line railway station is at Bodmin Parkway, approximately 15 miles, and Newquay airport is approximately 20 miles. There is unlimited parking next to the property.

Further Details:

Daymer Bay and the village of Trebetherick were both loved by Sir John Betjeman and are unquestionably special. With a huge appeal to both the young and not so young, Daymer Bay has recently been voted one of the best beaches in the world! St. Enodoc Church, once buried in the sand, is within comfortable walking distance of Daymer Bay and is the resting place of Sir John Betjeman. Daymer Bay holds great appeal for wind surfers and is enormous fun too for small children wanting to fish in the many rock pools or simply play in the sand with their buckets and spades.
