A House, Close To Beaulieu Sur Dordogne - In Lovely Hamlet

Overview

Property

Updated: 30-Oct-2016
House near Beaulieu sur Dordogne, Limousin, France - Peaceful Location In Unspoilt Countryside, La Chouette Is An Attractive, Welcoming House

The tiny hamlet of Le Cros nestles comfortably beside Puy D'Arnac with its hill top church and wonderful 360 degrees view point. This area is an absolute walkers paradise full of red squirrels, deer, owls, red kites even occasional wild boar. La Chouette has been a three year project to fully restore it to a beautiful house, in sympathy with its age and character. The thick stone walls keep the house beautifully cool in summer and warm in winter, and for those who want complete peace and rest it is perfect. It is also ideally situated for activities such as golf (there are 3 courses nearby), canoeing down the Dordogne, riding, walking, touring the wonderful country, medieval towns and chateaux nearby. In July/August the opera season at Castelnau near St Cere, about 35 minutes away, is an absolute must for music lovers.

Hello

You would be very welcome to use my letter as you requested - I hope many people have the pleasure of staying in your wonderful home - as my husband said, we had a lovely holiday and loved staying both at the house and in the Beaulieu area - a real haven.

Thanks for all the care you took to help prepare us for our stay.

Best wishes to you both. M.R. West Midlands

Thank you for your note returning our security deposit and kind wishes. We certainly enjoyed staying at the house - it was beautiful and very well restored. The task must have been quite a challenge. We would recommend your property without hesitation and be more than happy to return at some point in the future, if only to to seek out a similar property to buy!

With best wishes, M.K. Nottingham.

Beautiful place

  • 4 of 5

The house was absolutely beautiful and very comfortable, very clean and every thing we wanted! The area is beautiful, very quiet with the nearest town of Beaulieau just 10 minutes away. It was a part of the Dordogne we haven't been to before and would love to go back again! Thank you John!

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This house is quite simply, gorgeous. Cosy and comfortable, yet spacious enough for 6 adults. It is extremely well appointed with everything you could need to create a relaxing holiday. Breakfast on the front terrace and dinner on the rear terrace are a must when the weather is fine.

The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful and tranquil. There are long periods when there is a total absence of human noise. The nearby town of Beaulieu offers a good selection of shops, cafes and restaurants for all tastes and is only a 10 minute drive away.

I thoroughly recommend this property. The only downside is that the upper bedrooms get a little too warm when it's very hot outside. However, that's a small niggle when everything else is so good.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your good review, in reply to your upper bedrooms being little to warm in this exceptional hot spell, your be please to know that in September this year we are fitting air exchange heating/aircon units to the house.

A quiet place

  • 4 of 5

A very nice well equipped Cottage, a lot of attractions near bye.

The Cottage is 1st class, we did have a power cut for 24 hours and had to resort to boiling water in a sauce pan on the wood burner that smoked the place out. We did have a good time though. A kettle and camping stove would have made it perfect. 3 couples 30s 40s and 50s.

Owner's Response: Glad the majority of your stay was enjoyably and as expected. Power cuts are rare, however we have taken your advice and a camping stove is now in the kitchen. The chimneys have been swept.

Wonderfully peaceful

  • 5 of 5

The house has been magnificently restored and is extremely comfortable. If the evenings are chilly the wood-burning stoves are great and make for a truly cosy experience. The location is secluded, peaceful and tranquil and it’s easy to leave the worries of the world behind. There are English programmes on the TV and if you need to stay in touch with the world then the free Wi-Fi is a bonus. The surrounding area is fascinating to explore, so scenic and always something interesting around the next corner. The small towns of Beaulieu sur Dordogne and Meyssac are delightful and provide plenty of good restaurants. Can’t wait to escape back there!

Activity and Interests

Travel:

Driving from the channel ports takes about 7 hrs. If you fly you will need to hire a car at the airport which you can easily do when booking the flight. Nearest airports are Toulouse (2hrs), Bergerac (2hrs), Limoges (1hr 30 mins) and Rodez (1hr 30 mins).

The newly opened airport at Brive/Souillac is 35mins away and direct flights are increasing this year to London City Airport.

Distances:

Brive la Gaillarde is 45 mins. Souillac 45 mins. Sarlat 1hr 15 mins. Pompadour ( National stud) 1hr 30 mins. Rocamadour 45 mins. Argentat 35 mins. St Cere 35 mins. All times are approximate.

Further Details:

Beaulieu has many shops, banks, restaurants and hotels and markets twice a week. The ecomarche at Altillac, just the other side of the road bridge over the Dordogne in Beaulieu is excellent for all normal food and wine shopping needs. Lunch beside the river at the Hotel des Charmilles in Beaulieu is always special. If you prefer to people watch then the square has several brasseries and hotels where you can lunch outside. At Meyssac the Relais du Quercy is well worth a lunch and even a swim. Don't miss a visit to Bretenoux - the old square has markets weekly and Les Saveurs restaurant does an excellent 'plat du jour'. The medieval architecture here is well worth the visit. Driving up the Dordogne to Argentat is a lovely run and lunch at Le Fouillade hotel under the enormous plain tree is very special. A walk down the old quay afterwards and a coffee by the riverside works well. We will provide further information leaflets etc at the house for your interest.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: There are several electric heaters and all beds have electric blankets. Please be aware that being on three floors there are several staircases and external steps, small children may well need that bit of extra supervision. The Dordogne is about 4 miles away. Outside: With a south facing balcony for breakfast and morning coffee, lunch can be either on this balcony or the north west facing terrace because both enjoy sunshine or shade as you wish. Both are equipped with tables and chairs. Utility Room: The laundry/utility room is fitted with washing machine and tumble dryer, sinks and cupboards, iron and ironing board. Access to the cave from this room. All linen and towels are included and changed weekly when the house is also serviced and cleaned. The sitting room has solid oak floor. There is a wood burner.
