Very spacious luxury top floor apartment with 3 terraces. The apartment is fully equipped both indoors and outdoors and has WiFi for those who like to stay connected. The apartment also has air-con (essential for summer) which doubles as a heating system (for winter). Located only a 5 minute stroll to the beach, shops and restaurants in a quaint village. The Algarve is one of Europe's favourite holiday destinations renowned for glorious year round sunshine and its wonderful, seemingly endless coastline that caters for all holiday makers with every water sport available. Inland you will find quaint villages barely touched by tourism with their rich heritage and history. There are a number of prestigious golf courses such as Benamor, Quinta da Cima and Quinta da Ria, which are well known for their stunning views only 5 minutes away. Cabanas de Tavira, formerly a fishing village, has become a popular tourist destination in the summer due to its fantastic beach.

We can offer you peace of mind in arranging collection to and from the airport should you require this service. In addition we have a management company to meet you on arrival or in the case that you need some assistance while you are at the apartment.

About Vivienne Cunningham

We purchased our apartment 10 years ago and like to think of it as a 'home from home' for both ourselves and our guests. We've had very positive feedback in relation to both the apartment and the area and are more than happy to give you as much help as possible to arrange your holiday. We would like to welcome you as a guest (either ones who have stayed with us before - of which we have a number of people we welcome back year after year, and new guests to Cabanas. We hope you, like our previous guests, will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and be able to 'kick back' and enjoy the Eastern Algarve (and in particular our apartment).

Why Vivienne Cunningham chose Tavira region

We especially liked the location in a small, very friendly village. The apartment was appealing, particularly because of the vast outside space (after all outside space is key when holidaying in a sunny climate!) In particular we liked the positioning of the large patio with BBQ - as the sun shines on that patio in the evening - which to us is key for enjoying a relaxing evening with family & friends.

What makes this apartment unique

Guests may wish to hire a car during their stay to see more of the Algarve however, it isn't necessary to do so as the property is convenient to local restaurants/pubs; shops; children's play areas; the beach and pools.

The apartment is located just a short 5 minutes walk from the sea front at Cabanas, which has an excellent beach with fine golden sand and clean water. It is possible to learn to wind surf or kite surf at Cabanas and taxi boats run on a regular basis to the nearby town of Tavira. Travelling to Tavira by taxi boat allows guests to enjoy the Ria Formosa.


The nearest airport is Faro which is approximately a 35 min drive from the apartment. Car hire is recommended, but not essential, if you like to travel further afield, however, a number of guests have travelled to the apartment via either taxi or coach (details can be provided on request). Should you decide not to hire a car during your stay it is possible to get around using public transport (either by bus or train). The train station is only a 5 min walk from the apartment as is the bus stop


Cabanas de Tavira is only a relatively short drive (or bus/train journey) to the Spanish border. You may even wish to take the ferry across from Vila Real (to Ayemonte). Ayemonte has a marina area, a 'free admission' park (with a small zoo) and a beautiful square where you can enjoy drinking coffee (or a thirst quenching beer) or browse around the shops. Vila Real is also enjoyable to spend a few hours relaxing

Further Details:

Tavira is definitely worth a visit as it is only a short drive. There are numerous places to have a relaxing meal/drink. There is also a large shopping mall (Gran Plaza) which also houses a cinema. Most films (with the exception of cartoons) are shown in English with Portuguese sub titles. We have been a number of times and enjoyed the experience - including the interval which we in the UK/Ireland aren't used to any more!

Notes on accommodation: A cot/high chair is available on request. Smoking is not permitted inside the apartment and animals are not permitted. The air-conditioning also works as a heating system in the cooler autumn/winter nights. The apartment is cleaned at the end of each week's stay (stays of up under 14 days will not have a mid stay clean unless requested at additional cost). Price provided on request. NB: For winter rentals (end November to end February/March) the monthly cost is £525. This amount is excluding utilities (electricity, gas & water) which are paid separately. Outside: There are 3 spacious terraces. The first is a large terrace with wooden patio table/parasol and chairs, brick barbecue with inset metal barbecue and comfortable sofa/chairs and coffee table. The second is very suitable for having an al fresco breakfast in the morning sunshine. The third is a roof terrace with sun loungers for those who like to top up on their tans. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen, towels and kitchen tea towels provided. If you are staying for two weeks, or more, a 'mini' clean is carried out at the end of each week. Additional cleaning can be arranged. Beach towels are provided.

Our stay here was good very clean and tidy loved the rooftop terrace and BBQ!!

Clean, three good terraces, close to shops, restaurants and beach. Quiet.

We enjoyed the size of the apartment and the terraces. We've stayed in similar apartments in Cabanas. We know the layout etc and look for this particular type.

Home from home

Just returned from a fantastic two weeks in this apartment. It was easy to book with the owner, Vivienne, keeping in touch right upto the departure day, payment was straight forward and confirmed immediately. The apartment is clean, spacious and has everything you need. It is just away from the main front line, but within five minute walk there are plenty of restaurants and a couple of supermarkets. Cabanas is very quiet, but very cheap to stay in. Don't go there if you are looking for lively nightlife or lots of shopping, however if you want great food, friendly people and to step back and relax, this is the ideal place for you. Please note the apartment is on the second floor and it is not suitable for anyone with difficulty climbing stairs.

We didn't hire a car and relied on trains/taxi's to get around, in hindsight if I went again for two weeks I would hire a car for a few days just to see the more inaccessible areas around this area of Portugal, however it is possible to get around on trains and taxi's.

Wendy and Jeff who look after the apartment organised transport to and from the airport and met us on our first day. They were also around to offer help, they are a lovely English couple who help in anyway they can.

Would definetly recommend this apartment and would return if we wanted to relax and kick back, weather was also fantastic, 30c plus every day.

Great accommodation in a great location - Cabanas is lovely and the locals are very friendly

This lovely apartment has all that you needed and more in a great location, perfect for us with a teenage boy. We had a super 2 week holiday arriving the last week of July - the weather was extraordinarily hot with Portugal having it's first summer heatwave for 100 years and temperatures hitting the high 30's! We would definitely go back here again, although not in August. The shared pools were very busy with no lounger facilities, not quite what we expected - although the beach made up for this.

The apartment is located approximately a 10 minute walk from the promenade and restaurant / shop area. The long sandy beach stretches for miles and is easily accessible via a 2 minute boat ride, which adds another fun element to the holiday.

The local cafe is less than 2 minutes away - literally around the corner and got very busy with Irish tourists. The entertainment went on some nights into the early hours, this was the only downside as the noise could be heard in the apartment. On the plus side the cafe did have free WiFi access to keep our teenager appeased, as do most of the restaurants along the promenade.

The local train station is a 15 minute walk away for those who wish to explore the surrounding areas or even get the ferry to Spain!

We would highly recommend this apartment - Viv was very helpful throughout the whole booking process from start to finish.

I'm also glad the public transport was useful for seeing further afield. However, we apologise there were no loungers available at the pool. We'll make enquiries as to why this happened as there should be loungers available to hire at a nominal cost. We'd love to see you back again if you are holidaying again in the Eastern Algarve.

Very Good

The property is located reasonably close to Cabanas and the train station - within 10 minutes I would say to the station and minutes from the seafront. Cabanas is small and friendly well worth spending time there. The train opens up all of the Algarve and beyond. It is exceptionally cheap to use compared to GB. As always, we find the warm and welcoming nature of Portuguese people very special. Most things are reasonably cheap and dining and supermarket costs no exception.

This property is tidy, exceptionally equipped with appliances and utensils and in a good location for most things. Rooms are well furnished but perhaps need updating. Minor points: disappointed that we could not receive any TV broadcasts (World Cup Rugby!) whatsoever or get the DVD to play. Management Team were informed but encountered same difficulties. This could be due to previous occupants and settings. We were told to keep trying. We followed what instructions were available and perhaps these need updating and centralising. You do need these facilities for the odd rainy day or relaxation. Outdoor noise can sometimes present sleep problems with kids playing football or boarding in the early hours perhaps to escape the heat during the day.

Nevertheless, it was a pleasant holiday and we enjoyed our stay.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for the feedback. Despite a few hiccups we're glad you had a pleasant holiday and enjoyed your stay. The problems experienced re non UK channels are due to Astra (the satellite company) moving their satellite footprint last year which has resulted in UK channels not being received across southern Europe (including the Algarve). We still receive English speaking channels and are investigating if there is any way to obtain UK channels. Apologies the management company were unable to resolve the problems experienced with the DVD, especially as we've a large number of DVDs for guests to use. The problem with the DVD was due to previous guests removing (and breaking) the scart lead. The management company have been instructed on how to check connections in the future.

Bookings are confirmed upon receipt of a deposit and signed booking form. Balance payable 6 weeks prior to arrival. There is a £100 breakages deposit to be paid with the balance. Cost includes electricity, however, we reserve the right to charge for excessive usage (over £15 pw) and the right to deduct any charges incurred as a result of your stay.

Changeover Day:
Changeover days are flexible. While flight details are requested on booking, availability of the apartment before 4pm cannot be guaranteed. In addition guests need to vacate the apartment by 10am on the morning of their departure.
