Villa in Vizcondado de Cabanyes, Calonge, Nr. Palamos, Costa Brava - Peaceful Location overlooking the Mediterranean & National Park

This stunning luxury villa sits in its own multi-level gardens in the exclusive, private community of Cabanyes, a short distance from the beautiful Blue Flag beaches of Catalonia. It is finished to a very high standard and is comprehensively equipped with all modern conveniences. The exterior of the property benefits from a south facing, sunny aspect, with shady retreats. The interior has been tastefully decorated and feels like a 'home from home'. The heated, private pool is suitable for young children and can be viewed from the terraces and balconies. Only a 5 minute drive away is the medieval town of Calonge, where restaurants and shops can be found. Not much further, at 5km, is the seaside resort of St. Antoni de Calonge which has a 5km long family beach with a wide promenade plus many shops, restaurants and tapas bars! The villa is conveniently situated for daily excursions to Gerona, Barcelona and the South of France. It also has many renowned golf clubs within 25 mins drive. About Villa Shangri-La

The Owners have been fortunate to have travelled all over the world and have finally found a beautiful home with stunning views, with easy access from all over Europe at sensible travel prices.

We fell in love with the peaceful situation of the Villa, overlooking the protected Gavarres National Park, with an uninterrupted, 160 degree, view of the sparkling ocean.

2) Ease of access with two modern international airports only 35 and 65 minutes drive away at Gerona and Barcelona.

5) Beautiful beaches, coves and fabulous coastline and mountain walks just 10-20 minutes away.

What a place! David played golf, swam and ran/exercised along the prom at Sant Antoni. Baby Charlotte learned to swim, loving every minute - her brother James too! Notes on accommodation: Having grandchildren ourselves we are mindful of the younger ones and provide a cot, highchair and stair/step gates on request. Our home is completely double glazed and of modern construction (but in the Catalan traditional style) and so it stays cool in the summer, its elevation catching those refreshing breezes. However, it is also warm in the winter and has a very efficient heating system together with newly-fitted log burner fireplace for the cooler periods. It is therefore ideal for rental all year round. Temperatures in winter can dip to single figures sometimes, especially overnight, but it is not uncommon to enjoy over 20 degrees in the months of December and January! We are sorry that we are no longer able to accept pets of any description. Further information and advice can be found on our personal website. Outside: The large terraced garden is south-facing so benefits from sunshine all day round and the Cabanyes unique micro-climate. The heated swimming pool with lovely views of the ocean and mountains is very private and has a number of poolside loungers, plus plenty of patio space for outside dining. Though many guests prefer to eat under the shade of the elevated terrace, there is also a serenely shaded patio area under our Mulberry tree (often called an Umbrella tree for obvious reasons!) which offers complete privacy from the midday sun. For 2011 we have extended both patios, in the pool and the villa area, to provide even more room for al fresco dining and relaxation. Also flower containers with small gate to add more security around the pool for the little ones! Look out for cruise ships (lit up at night), departing in the distance from Barcelona and slowly moving across the horizon towards the South of France and the Italian coast! There is a lot more information on our personal website. Utility Room: Washing Machine with hot tumble dryer, iron and board, hairdryer, cooking accessories for BBQ's and pool toys. Further information and advice can be found on our personal website. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen, bath and pool towels are provided. The villa is cleaned and linen changed before and after your rental, but a mid-term clean/linen change can be organised for an extra fee. Pool checked twice-weekly. Gardens checked every two weeks. Other: Kids' Den - large bedsit-style room, sleeps 3; new en-suite shower room with walk-in shower, wc & modern basin unit; sofa, 32" HD TV with Blu-Ray DVD plus Music CD Player; charging iPod player with clock/radio/alarm; views to ocean & hillsides

We had a totally fabulous time. The villa has the most perfect views that we’ve come across and the local beaches and coastline are stunning. Wonderfully friendly people and the restaurants are superb too. We will be back to this villa for certain.

Special interest holidays:

Spain is one of the best places in Europe for birdwatching with over 500 species recorded & some 270 breeding. These include threatened species such as Dupont’s lark, purple gallinule white-headed duck, marbled teal lammergeyer, golden eagle and the endemic Spanish imperial eagle. From the villa's terraces one can see a wide range of bird life, such as Pallid Swifts (Apus pallidus), Blue Rock Thrushes (Monticola solitarius), Ortolan Buntings (Emberiza hortulana), Red-rumped Swallows (Cecropis daurica) & Bee-Eaters (Nyctyornis amictus) - even Short-toed Eagles (Circaetus gallicus)! Star of the show has to be our locally nesting Eagle Owls (Bubo bubo), seen towards dusk perched on a nearby buttress overlooking the valley below, just a 150 metres or so from the pool terrace! Eagle Owls are large and powerful birds smaller than the Golden Eagle but larger than the Snowy Owl. It is often titled the world's largest owl, with a wingspan of up to 200 cm and length up to 75 cms


The area is renowned not only for its miles of golden beaches and turquoise ocean, but also for its hidden coves & fishing ports some reminiscent of the Greek islands! Most beaches have 'Blue Flag' status & are child friendly with lifeguard stations - absolutely perfect for families. For those who prefer quiet beaches there are sandy bays dotted along the coastline which can be easily accessed. Many are linked by well manicured coastal paths. The closest beach is under 10 minutes drive away.


Getting to the Villa could not be easier, with superb road and rail links, plus a choice of airports – Girona, Barcelona, Reus, Perpignan, Carcassone, Beziers etc. A number of Airlines fly directly into Girona which is around 35 minutes drive away from the villa. Others fly into nearby Barcelona and Perpignan airports, both under 90 minutes drive away. Further afield are Reus, Carcassonne, Beziers and even Toulouse. Car hire is strongly recommended - our website gives advice on best rates!

Booking Notes:
1) A deposit of 25% is required upon booking your holiday. The balance of the funds should be paid at least 8 weeks before the date of arrival.
2) Upon arrival and collection of the keys, a security deposit is required of Euro 250,00, payable either by cash or credit card.

Changeover Day:
Between 1st June to 30th September the changeover day is Saturday. During other periods we are happy to do our best to be a little more flexible, on request.

Notes on prices:
1) Price includes agent contact on arrival, full local support from him during your stay; translation; all bed linen, bath and pool towels.
2) Deposit of 25% on booking. Balance to be paid 8 weeks (latest) before date of arrival.
3) Pool heating, on request (€25 per week).
4) Quality golf club and trolley hire available on request (substantial saving on local club charges).
5) Local baby sitting service, on request.
6) Sadly, due to experiences with a previous guest, no pets are accepted.
