About the Owner

Hi, I'm Gemma. Simon and I have been living in this gorgeous part of the Peak District since 2000. Farbrook is a working farm where we breed excellent quality alpacas for the fine fibre industry. We decided to convert our loveliest barn to self-catering accommodation and Overbrook Barn is the result. Overbrook sleeps eight in four double rooms, it's very comfortable, cosy, and has modern equipment throughout. We're in the centre of a network of footpaths and bridleways that offer some of the best walking and riding you'll find in the country. There's a huge amount to do locally, along with great eating and drinking.

I do hope you'd like to come and share our life on the farm, if there's anything you'd like to know do get in touch with me.

This barn is excellent, so warm, comfortable, and the kitchen is a pleasure to use. Hope to return!" "Fantastic accommodation! Beautiful location. Friendly and helpful people. Thoughtful personal welcome." "Thank you so much for all you did to make feel so welcome. We've had a wonderful time - comfortable barn, fantastic walks, beautiful scenery!"

Further Details:

While many people visit us just to enjoy life on the farm there is also an enormous amount to do locally. Countryside enjoyment starts with some of the best walking and cycling in the country on a network of bridleways and footpaths which start on the doorstep. There's a trekking centre in Flash so you can enjoy the same on four legs. The less experienced can sign up to a week's course of riding lessons at the local school. Get involved in local farm life: watch milking, visit farm shops and the mushroom farm, or try your hand at some alpaca husbandry. This is great badger country: in the evening there's nothing so exciting as watching the dusk exodus of tens of badgers off on their nocturnal rounds. We're surrounded by some of England's most beautiful and exciting country houses. Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Little Moreton Hall, Biddulph Grange, Gawesworth Hall, Capesthorne Hall, Tatton Park, and Lyme Park are all within 20 to 40 minutes drive. Many have spectacular gardens and children's playgrounds. Chatsworth has an outstanding adventure playground. Buxton Opera House has a 7-day programme of family entertainment as well as some opera. Clonter Opera (the Glyndebourne of the north) is about 30 minutes drive and they will cater for your interval dining if you don't want to take your own picnic. Macclesfield has a great 'classic' cinema. Alton Towers (rides and theme park) is 30 minutes away.

Macclesfield was the centre of silk production in the 18th century. Many of the mill buildings are still standing and there are several museums covering this great part of our history. Buxton (10 minutes drive) is a spa town and was built by the Romans, there is lots to see here including some fine Georgian architecture. It's our nearest town and probably has all you'll need. Good restaurants including Italian, Indian, Chinese, Pizza Express, and an excellent Thai. Good parks and playgrounds. There are Waitrose, Morrisons, and Aldi, supermarkets.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Both Overbrook Barn and The Farmhouse have oil-fired central heating which keeps them very warm 24 hours a day. They both have telephones, and free wireless internet throughout. Well behaved pets are welcome. No smoking indoors please. Order your groceries online for delivery through Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsburys, or Ocado and they'll be here for your arrival. Outside: Both Overbrook Barn and The Farmhouse have their own gated and lit gardens which are secure for small children and dogs. There's a barbeque area in each with seating for a full house. There's plenty of room to walk on the farm and we've usually got an empty field for off-the-lead walking for your dog. Longer walks start on the bridleway at the end of your drive.
