Overview

Property

Updated: 28-May-2016
3 bedroom house with large pool. 2 minutes walk to lovely main beach and 5 minutes walk to shops and restaurants.

The house is in a perfect location within a short walk of the fabulous main Alcossebre beach and the town centre. The house, which is on a small gated community of 28 has a private enclosed garden, upstairs and downstairs terraces and shares a large pool. The house and location are perfect for families or those who don't want the hassle of having to use the car every time they go out. Alcossebre is a lovely unspoiled Spanish town with fabulous clean beaches and a large selection of restaurants and shops. The town is a perfect base for exploring some beautiful, largely undiscovered, parts of Spain.

About the Owner

Dave and Sally Derham live in an old farmhouse on the outskirts of Bristol. Dave runs his own coaching and consultancy business whilst Sally is a therapist specialising in panic attacks and phobias, working largely on the recommendation of local GP's. Dave and Sally have always been keen on property design and serious DIY. They are currently carrying out their most ambitious project to date - a barn conversion, which they plan to move into as soon as it is finished. They are doing most of the building work themselves and have found it a massive learning exercise! As well as doing therapy work, Sally works with a local rescue centre to rehabilitate problematic dogs which have been abandoned. Dave relaxes by playing guitar and rebuilding classic cars and motorcycles.

Great accomodation in Alcossebre

  • 5 of 5

We had a great two weeks in Alcossebre. The house was clean, well maintained and had everything we needed including a lovely terraced garden which was perfect for day time relaxing and evening barbecues. A short stroll from the superb beach, local cafes and town. Looking forward to our next trip.

difficult to beat!

  • 4 of 5

Exactly what we'd hoped for. Quiet, clean and pleasant villa with private garden. The communal pool was lovely and mostly we had it to ourselves. A fantastic beach literally 5 minutes stroll from the villa. And the restaurants are all within a short walk. Definitely a Spanish destination with few British and friendly despite our limited Spanish - you do need a phrase book! It was definitely not a 'high rise resort'. Plenty of places to visit with lots of great suggestions from the owners. Good places to eat - we had a superb meal at El Patio. You must go up to the church you can see from the villa - stunning views. Really recommend it.

Great villa in a great location

  • 5 of 5

This is a great villa in a great location. It was very clean and had good supplies for us to use and top up e.g. food, milk, beer, BBQ coals etc. Fans in room to help keep cool and a WiFi hotspot for e-mail browsing. The pool was also lovely and a delight to use. Alcossebre is a gem - lovely beaches and a charm to stroll around during the evening. Lastly, the owners were very helpful with our ad-hoc queries - full marks!

Great Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just come back from our second visit to Dave and Sally's property in Alcossebre and have no doubt we will go back again.

The house is located in a quite location and is perfect for our family of 5, it is very well equipped, a really good size and spotlessly clean, the outside space is great for sitting with the family, and the welcome pack a nice touch as we arrived late.

The weather was very hot and we spent most of the time by the pool (which we had pretty much to ourselves) or the beach which is very close to the house.

We ate out at many of the restaurants and found them all of good quality and compared to other areas in Spain very reasonably priced.

We had one trip to Peniscola which is worth the visit if the weather not too hot for walking up to the castle.

I would not hesitate to recommend the house or the area for a relaxing family holiday.

Great Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in August and cannot rate the house and location more highly.

The house was very well equipped and stocked with various things the owners are prepared to let you use. The house was spacious and clean. The terraces located off the bedrooms and off the living room were excellent and very well used. The swimming pool was 30 second walk, it was a great size and very well maintained and the garden was lovely.

The house was ideally located, just a few minutes walk to the beach and to the town and supermarket very close by. The walk to restaurants and bars was very pleasant along the seafront.

We had the use of a car but you really don't need it. We visited the water park which the kiDs loved and drove to Morella in the mountains which was a lovely day out. The beaches were lovely, we tried the banana boat and the person's.

I would have no hesitation recommending this house and hope to go back in the future.

Just what's needed

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful two weeks in this lovely villa and location. It's difficult to find a suitable holiday for our five children aged between 17yrs and 2yrs but this really worked well for us all. The pool is gorgeous and usually very quiet, the beach in walking distance with loads of teenager friendly activities on offer!

The villa itself is clean, well equipped with plenty of room. The garden and patio area are perfect for relaxing with the family.

Alcossebre , we found to be a friendly and vibrant place which comes alive during the night with its many restaurants and bars. Which welcome families.

Dave could not have been more helpful and went out of his way to offer us tips and advise on the area.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this villa for holidays! And looking forward to hopefully going back one day.

Location

From the Owner

We first visited the Cost Del Azahar in 1996 and fell in love with it immediately. It is a very rare jewel which has retained its genuine Spanish charm and has avoided the blight of mass tourism. Having spent several holidays exploring the area and looking for our ideal property, we finally found our dream and bought the house in 2002. Shortly after this, we both started working for ourselves and are now able to spend a lot more time in Spain. The more time we spend there the more we love it.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Castellon at 22 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Alcossebre at 200 Metres Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach, which is the largest in Alcossebre, is only 200 metres away. It is a fabulous, very clean beach and is very safe for children. In peak season you can hire sun beds, pedalos and boats.

Travel:

Castellon airport is only 25 minutes by car.

Valencia airport is just over 1 hour by car.

Reus airport is 1.5 hours by car.

Barcelona airport is just over 2 hours by car.

Car hire is not necassary if using Castellon Airport, but it is necessary for the other airports.

Distances:

Approximate driving times to places of interest: Peniscola 20 minutes. Morella 50 minutes. Valencia 1 hour. Port Aventura (Universal's theme park) 1.5 hours.

Barcelona 2.5 hours. Benicassim water park 20 minutes.

Further Details:

Alcossebre is a rare jewel on the Spanish coastline. It has managed to retain its Spanish charm and has not been spoiled by mass tourism. This applies to the majority of the Costa Azahar, which is the main orange producing area of Spain. There a many traditional Spanish towns within a short drive as well as some stunning scenery. The towns of Peniscola and Morella are certainly worth visiting.

Facilities

From the Owner

Alcossebre is a wonderfully relaxing place to be. We feel the weight fall off our shoulders every time we arrive! The character of the place changes throughout the year, which makes it very interesting. In winter it is quite quiet, but significantly warmer and sunnier than the UK. In peak season there is a real buzz about the place. We really like the fact that Alcossebre is not full of Brits - the majority of people there are Spanish, although there is a nice mixture of British, French, German, Dutch and Scandinavian visitors. Enough people here speak English to make life easy. There is a great choice of restaurants within a short walk. The beaches are fabulous. There is a endless list of great places to visit if you are the exploring type - which we are!
