A beautiful wine chai restored for ideal holiday-making. The Orangerie (named after the orangerie in the garden) has cinema, satellite, CD, DVD, iPod and wi-fi, historic beamed 18th century rooms, very self-contained bedrooms (en-suite bath or shower-rooms, door to terrace), plus a walled garden with fenced pool and all garden furniture. Wide range of sporting facilities including tennis court, croquet lawn, boules court, football field and 9-hole short-hole golf course (shared). 7 a.m. bread delivery possible.

Sharon and I have built our villa business over the last 20 years. I am an entrepreneur, earlier I ran a large Travel company. Sharon was head of Communications for Bombardier Transportation until August 2014. We own 6 18th century houses near Gensac & Ste. Foy-la-Grande, and I have managed all the restoration projects. We provide experiences, not just holidays, with spacious accommodation, - great kitchens, all bedrooms en-suite, cinemas, wifi, hi-fi, satellite TV, large securitised pools and exceptional sporting facilities. We aim to give you exceptional personal service, us & our permanent support team. We offer a wide range of optional extras, including minibuses, canoes, chef & maid service. The Orangery was a fascinating museum of wine making, transport (stables) and farming. The walls were sound, the oak beams magnificent, the building tall with no first floor. Ideal restoration project as the walls and the beams would be impossible to build today. Ideal location for wine lovers, great for transport with 2 airports and the TGV station nearby. Great climate, not too hot, with spectacular electric storms often at night.

Solitude with the walled garden, sun all day, great entertainment within the house. The pleasure of living in an 18th century building. Lots of sports on site (tennis, croquet, boules, badminton, football and 9-hole developing pitch golf-course in the valley), canoeing on the Dordogne and top level golf at Chateau vigiers, 20 mins away.Table tennis and snooker at the house. Notes on accommodation: Most of our clients are families with small children, and the fact that all the bedrooms open onto a large terrace is a major bonus. I holidayed there with my 3 adult children, their spouses and 7 grandchildren and we all had a superb time. Outside: Large terrace with table-tennis table and tables with benches for 16 and parasols. Sun loungers for 16, 2 parasols by pool, large barbecue.Fenced pool 10m x 5m with constant 1.5m depth. All in walled garden. Parking for 8 cars. 50m walk to tennis court, boules court and croquet lawn (shared). A golf pitch range of 9 holes is being created in our valley and we have a field with a small football pitch available, so there is a wide range of sporting possibilities, Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels (bath and pools) and bed-linen included. Maid service and mid term changes are optional extras. Optional chef (superb), 9-seater VW transporter mini-vans with airport/station pick-up service, 4-seater Canadian canoes, bicycles for.

Excellent place

There were 16 of us we had a great time Ian was an excellent host, we had a cooked meal on the first night which was fantastic. The rooms are comfortable just the showers are a little tired, a couple of us builders suggested he make them into wet rooms. Most of us like to cook so we made use of the kitchen several times. The village is about a half hour walk away and there are two bars/restaurants. We preferred Le Gensac the owner and staff are great fun and their food is 5 star. Up the high street just past the Spar shop is a house with a penguin and some chairs outside.... this is not a bar as we found out just a man having a beer in his front room haha... I recommend the canoe trip great fun.

Stunning bright and airy villa

This high-spec property was formerly a crumbling wreck and has been lovingly restored into a stunning and comfortable villa. We loved the brightness and sense of space created by the huge downstairs windows and the fact that the bedrooms all opened directly onto a sun terrace. Decent pool in the grounds which the children loved. We enjoyed evenings spent on the terrace or on the comfy sofas upstarts. Our only issues were that the pool cover was broken when we arrived and the freezer broke during our stay, which Ian the owner dealt with as promptly as possible. It's quiet and secluded - a place where you can forget about the real world and simply relax.

Owner's Response: The pool cover is a security feature allowing a hard cover, solar powered, to cover the pool. The motor became disconnected and was repaired the next working day. The fridge/freezer (Baku - new in 2015 - never another) will be replaced. Luckily the house has a large commercial fridge as well, plus a separate freezer, as back-up.

Beautifully renovated house in a lovely spot

Beautifully renovated house in a lovely spot, in gorgeous countryside and close to vineyards and a pretty village. Lovely pool and grand piano, very friendly owner who is full of good local recommendations. Some fixtures/furnishings are a little tired but overall we had a great time in the house. Bordeaux and St Emilion within easy reach and made excellent day trips.

WOW!!!! Accomodation we wished we owned!!!!

As seasoned travellers and holiday makers we had very high hopes of what our accomodation in Bordeaux would be like, but they were exceeded by this property. Firstly the property allowed us to stay together all 12 of us, we had so much fun with the different activities that were about the place from Tennis, Golf, Table tennis, the use of the pool table, the private swimming pool. The 3 metre projector tv allowed us to watch the Euros with English commentary. The kitchen was fully furnished including a pizza oven. We rented the two VW people carriers which allowed us to come and go as we pleased.

Ian as the owner could not have done any more for us, every request was taken on board and fulfilled. Having since returned home, friends and family have commented on how amazing the place looked in the pictures we posted online......the pictures are amazing but L'Orangerie has been firmly installed as the premium level of what we will expect from other accomodation and this is what will set it apart from every other holiday accomodation we have experienced. Keep up the great work Ian.

A great fortnight in a wonderful setting

We had a wonderful two weeks at the Orangerie - the property was even more impressive than the photographs and had plenty of space for our 3 families to enjoy. Lovely pool and terrace, tennis court, table tennis and pool table kept us busy.

The cinema room / sound system was very impressive but don't forget to bring some DVDs. Great, friendly, attentive service from the owner including initial shop and helping to arrange transport for trips etc - Ian was a friendly and warm host.

Would definitely recommend this property.

Completely bowled over!!

Well, what a treat was in store for us at L'Orangerie! We were a party of 14 adults and four toddlers, spanning three generations. We arrived at various times and by different methods of transportation. We were truly trains, planes and automobiles. Thankfully, the airport and stations were within a reasonable distance. There were bedrooms a-plenty, each of a high standard and all with en-suite facilities - all opening onto the terrace. The kitchen was exceedingly well equipped, not just with major appliances but with the little items that you rarely find in rented accommodation. The dining table was big enough for all of us to sit at with not only enough chairs, but also high chairs for our youngest member. The snooker table was well used and also the tv equipment (once we found out how to access c-beebies!)

Such a lot of thought has gone into this property and although it was only ours for a week, it had a homely feel to it. There are a wealth of activities; we used the pool every day and everything you could want to use in a pool was there for us. We played boules, and there was even enough space for a game of rounders!

We would have no hesitation in returning to this property or recommending it to others and Mr Christians is to be applauded for what this property has to offer.
