Stunning villa in lovely grounds

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully restored villa with a huge open plan upstairs salon which they use for annual music festivals , well-kitted out kitchen, decent-sized ensuite bedrooms and fenced pool with grounds. The owner was quick to respond to our requests eg fitting a lock to the pool fence gate, and the place was clearly a labour of love for him. We all had an highly enjoyable stay and our young children loved the space to run around in and the pool.

Fabulous property for large family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

My family & myself had a fantastic time when we stayed at La Musique. 17 of us spent a week here. Ian, the owner was very pleasant & helpful at all times. Ages ranged from 3 yrs to 74 yrs.

The house was large, well equipped & clean. All the bedrooms were en suite and a good size . Plenty of towels were supplied (no need to bring any) & we had use of the laundry room. A fabulous home cinema system is in the sitting room, we took our media player so the kids could chill & watch their favourite film before bedtime. Plenty of sofa's & chairs for everyone. Teenagers loved the snooker table. Also tennis court, football field.

Outside there was a lovely fenced pool, which had enough sun loungers for all. There is also a few tables outside, next to the bar-b-que area, lovely to sit at with meal & a glass of wine! Large grass area in front of the house, which the children could run on & let off steam.

Gensac is the little village close to La Musique, we walked to it a few times, lovely stroll on relatively quiet road, surrounded by vineyards which took around 20 minutes. There is a supermarket & 2 restaurants. It is small, friendly & typically French. Due to the location of the house, I would recommend hiring transport. We hired a people carrier from Ian the owner.

I would highly recommend this property if you want a quiet, relaxing break...the countryside surrounding the house is beautiful. It was perfect for our family as we wanted "good old family time together" not pubs & clubs!

The only thing I would say is a slight negative about the house is that some of the upstairs windows open wide, there is a wrought iron bar across but its rather low.......I never left them open if our 3 year old was running around & I was in the kitchen, as some radiators are below windows for kids to climb on. However, this said its common sense & can be a problem wherever you go

To finish, it was a super holiday....something for.everyone & we all had a fantastic time!

Owner's Response: Lisa is absolutely right, the first person to point this out in 14 years. The security bars (2) have been installed with the lower at ground level, instead of 30cms higher to create the safe barrier. The correct installation will be done early September. Thank you Lisa!

A great place to stay in the Bordeaux wine region

  • 5 of 5

This villa has everything it says on the tin. It is a beautiful old property modernised to the highest of standards. It is clean with all of the needs for self catering provided, and has lovely living and sleeping quarters. The owner "Ian" is a real gentleman who goes out of his way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The little town "Gensac" is in walking distance of the Villa and has two lovely restaurant's that provide great food and wine at a very reasonable cost. Ian can obtain and provide a good selection of local wines and a reasonable cost, as you are located in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region. If you are thinking of holidaying around Bordeaux this is a lovely place to stay. 13 of us stayed at La Musique some young and some not so young and we had a great time. I intend to return in the future for a family occasion. Frank Kelly

Activity packed holiday in beautiful area

  • 4 of 5

This was our second holiday at La Musique and overall it didn't disappoint. The house is really well designed and laid out for a group holiday, in our case a multi generation family get together. There are plenty of activities, both indoor and outdoor. The swimming pool, tennis court and pool table were well used, and we enjoyed football and golf, albeit on very rough ground! The huge main living space works really well, and the surrounding area is beautiful with a number of options for sightseeing and activities in the area, including wine tasting, kayaking and horse riding. We did find the kitchen in need of a bit of a refresh, the freezer doesn't work and one of the dishwashers didn't clean well. More outside lighting would have been useful. There were a few other niggles but they didn't detract from a wonderful holiday. Ian was very helpful whilst we were there, although slow to respond to information requests in advance of our holiday. We would not hesitate to recommend the property for a group or family holiday. Our previous stay was over Christmas and New Year and it was fantastic at that time of year too.

Owner's Response: This is the first review less than 5 stars ever! Certainly things to act on. I was not aware of the dish-washer problem which is a simple matter (blocked arms), the American fridge/freezer was replaced with a new Samsung the following week. This follows our policy of addressing problems when we are informed of them, as quickly as we can. However "Rough ground" for the football field and golf course could give an excessively negative perspective, particulary for the latter, (which is designed for pitching, not putting). Certainly not Old Trafford and St.Andrews, but fit for purpose of having fun, surfaces are flat, grassed and kept cut.

Fanstatic Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful location with easy access to the surrounding wine region. Great house and Ian is a wonderful host , nothing is too much trouble for him to organise from wine tasting to recommending good restaurants. He supplied a chef for the first evening meal and it was superb. The house is modern and comfortable, a home from home, we will be returning in the future and would recommend to everybody.

Location

From the Owner

When I saw the dilapidated granary on the first floor I fell in love with it and knew that I had found my perfect venue for my plans for a chamber music festival. I have kept the granary (now salon) as authentic as possible, all the beams, windows and internal shutters are original and I put in a new oak floor, roof and high technology. I have designated areas for each activity, and put the en-suite bedrooms downstairs for coolness. Situated amongst the vineyards of Bordeaux, it is in a wonderful location, and I love the climate - not too hot. There is a karma that is very positive, the silence deafening. A neurosurgeon client told me he had never been to a place where he could relax so quickly! In the depth of the countryside, but great communications by road, air and train

Facilities

From the Owner

If you want to be close to friends & family, have fun, & if you love films & music, there is no better place.La Musique has been the venue of some of the greatest music experiences one could wish for! It is my favourite house in the world, even alone, backside to a great log fire in the great fireplace, watching the Rolling Stones live in concert on a large screen 60 foot away as though in the front row, or watching a Mozart opera, sipping a glass of mellow wine made by a friend. Life does not get much better than this! Lots of sports on site (tennis, croquet, boules, badminton, football and 9-hole golf-course in the valley), canoeing on the Dordogne and top level golf at Chateau vigiers, 20 mins away. Options include minibuses, canoes, chef and maid service.
