House with Fantastic Sea Views

Updated: 13-Sep-2016
House in Sant Feliu De Guixols, Costa Brava, Spain - Short Walk to the Beach and Beautiful Bay

The house is located in a quite residential area with spectacular views of the popular town of Sant Feliu de Guixols and Sant Pol bay with it's golden sandy beach. All year round Sant Feliu is a traditional Catalan coastal town which has numerous leisure and cultural activities, in addition to maintaining the town's most deeply-rooted traditions. Thanks to it's pleasant, temperate climate, it is an ideal place for relaxing at any time of the year offering pleasant walks to it's centre and sandy beaches. Explore the exclusive beach of Sa Conca and other beautiful bays and beaches of Platja D'Aro, Sant Antoni and Palamos. The Pyrenees are only a short drive away. Tapas, fresh fish, salads and grilled meats are typical dishes, many charming restaurants serve three courses with wine and coffee, at fantastic prices. All types of water sports including a large water park, golf, cycling etc are all available here. Great shopping and nightlife for all tastes can also be found nearby.

Very enjoyable break

  • 4 of 5

First off I'd say that if you wanted to stay in a place in pristine condition, with matching cutlery, glasses and crockery then look elsewhere and be prepared to pay a lot more. This house was the ideal base for my wife and I, our friend and his daughter and her boyfriend. It was perfect for visiting the various Dali exhibitions we wanted to see and for a visit to Barcelona. We walked to the beaches and the town a few times, it is maybe about 15/20 minutes to the town and it's market, and we did get a taxi back - but my wife and I are both pensioners and the hill was a bit too steep for us, especially with shopping, and the taxi was very reasonably priced.

The balcony is perfect for breakfast with the sun shining over the Mediterranean, and has a quite stunning view, and is also just right for relaxing later with a glass or three of Rioja, watching the lights of the boats and cruise ships go by, and the illuminations from the bays further up.

Two of us are enthusiastic cooks and we found the kitchen well stocked with utensils and cooked a wide range of meals with the pots, pans etc. provided. We didn't bother with any TV, but took some CDs with us and used the music player.

Overall we were all happy with the accommodation, I'd say it's a home from home, laid back sort of place - just what we wanted.

Fantastic Half Term Holiday in St Feliu De Guixols

  • 4 of 5

We were absolutely delighted with this property, we traveled by car from England over two days with an overnight in France. Upon arrival I was pleased to find this property at the end of a very quiet lane on top of a hill overlooking S'agaro and St Pol's bay. The house is one of twelve similar properties up a couple of flights of steps from the car park area. The house is larger than I expected and spread upside down over two floors with the living area & kitchen upstairs so you can take full advantage of the stunning views from the balcony and the three double bedrooms and two bathrooms downstairs where it is slightly cooler, you also have a large conservatory leading out onto the patio where there is a fantastic Jacuzzi, a very welcome treat after a long days drive. Everything you could need is in the house, t.v. DVD, stereo, books, board games, playing cards and free WiFi (very handy for our 17 year old daughter) The kitchen is also fully equipped and not once did I think Oh I need this or that. I haven't slept so well in a holiday property as I did on this holiday, it was so quiet. We had a couple of occasions where we needed to contact Steven the owner with a couple of minor queries and each time everything was answered and sorted really quickly. Do not hesitate to contact him whilst you are there.

I would say that late May is probably a little early to get the full benefit of this area as they are only starting to gear up for the start of the holiday season in mid June, we found a lot of the restaurants in the area closed in the evenings so were a little limited for choice, but having been in the Summer I prefer it quieter.

Overall a very pleasant house and for the price I think you are getting very good value for money I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Great place, lovely people

  • 4 of 5

Thanks for helping my family with a late booking. We found the property perfect for us, it was well maintained and very clean. The owners went out of their way to accommodate us and help with all information needed about the local area. I would certainly recommend this holiday letting.

This is a holiday place - and it is fine

  • 4 of 5

I read the previous review of this house and I was amazed.

All I can say it that the person who wrote it sounds like a professional complainer with an axe to grind.

This is a holiday house for goodness sake - and at the price charged you get what you pay for.

Yes we had a ferw minor gripes with the house.

For example it was hard to regulate the water temperature when taking a shower - but we assume that that's life with those gas water heaters.

The TV channels did seem very limited - but then we were on holiday and why waste time watching TV when you can do that every day at home.

The complaints about the lack of items in the kitchen was quite frankly ridiculous.

This isn't a fancy house and the facilities in it aren't fancy - but it was fine for six people to stay for a week's holiday.

San Feliu is easy to walk to (we did take a taxi back home a couple of times) with loads of choice for places to eat and drink.

If it is really important to you to have sets of matching glasses then I suggest you stay elsewhere but this place did the job for me and my family.

I believe we were the first occupants this year. We have no axe to grind with the owners. The faults we found (below) have been given to the owners by separate correspondence, which they welcomed.

1. Bathrooms

Drain odours

Lamp missing in separate bathroom vanity unit

Vents in bathrooms attract dirt and mice (droppings evident)

Regulation of hot water/pressure

Shower screen (second bathroom) permits spilling

Mould and dirt on tiles, shower screens etc

2. Kitchen

In property details "including all utensils for self catering 6 persons" - the utensils are entirely inadequate.

Smallest gas ring not working (reported, no action)

Cooker hood light on right flickering - hood stuck with Sellotape

Inadequate/mishmash of wine glasses

Inadequate cups - either huge or tiny - no mugs

No saucepans with handles

No ladles, no scissors, no potato peeler, no chopping board, no washing up brush, no tea towels, poor cork screw, no floor cloth, poor brush/pan, blunt cheese grater, no colander

Dishwashing rack too small to hold dinner plates

The kitchen reqiures a deep clean to remove grease around cooking facilities especially.

3. Bedrooms

Radiator in double bedroom not working

No bedside lamps - cell like lamps (one bulb not working)

Stained single duvet

4. Other

No English satellite TV only Sky (Irish) news and a couple of others available - No Spanish TV

JVC/CD player not working

DVD player inoperable

Inoperable Venetian blinds (kitchen and indoor terrace)

No sun beds

Wall clock not working

Inadequate lighting in lounge/diner

Vacuum cleaner underpowered, clogged up and cable jamming

Fire extinguisher outside front door (in working order?)

No visitors book

No emergency contact details (doctor, hospital, police etc)

No local information - restaurants, shops etc

No information regarding mains gas, electricity and water

The description of the villa is inaccurate. It claims 10 minutes walk to local beaches/town. It is 2km+ to nearest shops, restaurants, beaches up/down a very steep hill (max 15% incline). A car IS essential.

"Amenities" include tumble dryer -there isn't one - but there is a dishwasher which is not mentioned in the website details.

Apart from a sometimes barking dog from the permanent residence next door, we found the villa totally quiet and peaceful at this time of year (April 2014). Providing the above items are rectified, the villa would be adequate for a large family or just two couples. With three couples sharing it would be very cramped.

Owner's Response: Shocked at these comments particularly as you stayed for 2 weeks with your Dog (not permitted on website) and we did not hear about these so called problems until you vacated. If it was as bad as you try to portray why didnt you contact me immediately? You had my mobile number. 1. Bathroom drains - No fowl odours I know of. The vents were cleaned immediately but left in a state after you left, even then no sign of mice droppings. People would normally complain of poor water pressure not being too high, you merely adjust the tap or shower head to different settings. AS there were only two people specified on the booking form, I thought 8 Glasses plus cava glasses would be sufficent. Sorry:: Re the Kitchen.. Colander and scissors have been purchased all other things were there and in working order. The gas ring required a professional who unfortunately was on his vacation. You did say that the other 3 large rings would be sufficient. The saucepans are spanish style with two handles, which they had. Sorry that SKY TV decided to block all transmissions due to broadcasting rights´´ not me.... The tv has an in built DVD/CD player also there is a seperate Radio CD player, all of which are in perfect working order. The vaccum cleaner works fine... Perhaps there were too many dog hairs... Im sorry that you felt inclined to post such a damning report we have never had a bad reveiw before. we pride ourselves in maintaining the property to a high level. Im sure you understand the problems with certain clients, as you yourself expressed to me about your friends that had rented your house yet left Tampons in the swimming pool filters.
