Situated 2 miles from the Village of Winkleigh, set within 7 acres, this cosy cottage is at the end of a driveway off the country lane making it a quiet location. Sleeping 4 people in 2 bedrooms this cottage has character and the interior is stylish and comfortable. The sitting/dining room features a wood burner. Well equipped modern kitchen with stable door leading to the private fenced garden. Downstairs cloakroom with wc. Upstairs are 2 bedrooms, 1 with king size bed and 1 twin. Family bathroom with roll-top bath and large separate shower, wc and basin.

We loved this cottage and would definitely stay there again for a peaceful holiday in mid-Devon. It is spacious, beautifully presented and very clean and comfortable. The owners were friendly and helpful. We found it a good base for walking on Dartmoor, fishing the local rivers and reservoirs and visiting the north coast of Devon and Cornwall. There is an excellent pub restaurant in nearby Wembworthy.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely area, convenient for exploring north and South Devon. It has everything you need and enclosed garden for the dog and lovely walks around the cottage. Quiet location, yet close to Winkleigh.

We had a wonderful week at Wagtails. The property is delightful , comfortable and peaceful. It is a perfect environment. We were made to feel very welcome at all times. We would highly recommend this venue.

we could not have had a greater host and place to stay, the area showed us so much and was relaxing at the same time. the only problem we had was seeing it all in such a short time cheers for a great stay, oh and the scones were out of this world cheers

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary


Bude on the Cornish coast is approximately 45 mins by car, as is Westward HO! in North Devon. Croyde and Woolacombe (just north of Barnstaple) are a similar distance.

The coastal path that runs all the way around Devon and Cornwall is closest at 'Green Cliff' or 'Clovely', both close to Bideford and about 45 mins by car.

South Devon, South Dorset and many South/North Cornish beaches are between 1 hour to 2 hour 10 mins by car.


Nearest local train station (Exeter to Barnstaple line) is Eggesford (4 miles) - if you don't have a car or want to leave it at home - lifts to and from Eggesford with prior arrangements would be available at no extra charge. Buses into Exeter and Barnstaple are available from Winkleigh.

Exeter Airport is approximately a 55 minute drive.

Bristol Airport is approximately a 95 minute drive.

Plymouth Ferry terminal is approximately a 55 minute drive.


Okehampton the gateway to Dartmoor is 12 miles, with Barnstaple 20 miles and Exeter 23 miles.

Close to the Tarka Trail. RHS Rosemoor Gardens and Dartington Crystal in Torrington are 12 miles. The nearby National Trust properties of Castle Drogo and Lydford Gorge are about a 30 mins drive. Anyone wishing to visit the Eden Project should allow about a 1 hour 30 min drive. Exmoor is approximately 15 miles.

Further Details:

Winkleigh has a village shop plus a butcher and fishmonger. There is a post office which has cash facilities. There are 2 pubs & one cafe in the centre of the village all of which serve food. The Village has its own cider press which welcomes visitors.

Okehampton has several supermarkets, banks and a variety of shops.

Outside: Small private fenced garden with grassed area and borders with rural views towards Dartmoor. Table with chairs and sun umbrella, plus garden bench. Access to owners grounds available please ask on arrival. (7 acres - consisting of garden, orchard, paddocks and young woodland).
