About Mariola Stone
I live in England with my wife and our two dogs- a Westie called Nessy and crossbreed hooligan called Spot! We have 2 grown up sons who we still haven't managed to rid of- they like the home comforts too much. We fell in love with the Eastern Algarve on our first visit 8 years ago, so much so that we decided to property hunt straight away and found this bit of heaven there and then. Luckily the Portuguese way of life suits us and we have made great friends and have fantastic neighbours there, as soon as we land at Faro we feel the tension slip away and we relax!
Mariola Stone purchased this villa in 2007
Why Mariola Stone chose Tavira region
The Property is a new build completed in the spring of 2009.
Is is about 5 minutes car ride outside Tavira situated in quiet rural area, but only 10 - 15 mins from beaches, some of which run all the way to the Spanish border.
While the area is up and coming it has not been over developed and still has that lovely laid back feel that the Western Algarve used to have. Tavira is a working town and not just for holiday makers so there is life in the winter months as well.
After landing at Faro airport it is only a 30 minute drive to the house along a usually deserted motorway, a joy after the congestion of the UK.
While it is in a rural area we do have neighbours, so there is never the feel of being cut off from civilisation.
What makes this villa unique
The rural area is quiet, but you are still close enough to Tavira for shopping and cafe life when needed as well as good restaurants for all tastes and pockets.
The house has a swimming pool so you don't have to venture to the beach if you don't want to.
There is plenty of bird life, boxing hares and an occasional wild boar (if you are very lucky- they don't normally come close) for nature lovers.
For astronomers the lack of light pollution allows you to wonder at the stars and be amazed at just how many there are.
There are all the usual pastimes you would expect of the Algarve, golf, tennis, walking, fantastic sandy beaches that stretch for miles, local restaurants several just minutes away.

Lovey villa with double height living space.
Great villa for a family holiday. Beautiful setting in the hills with great star lit nights to look at and sunsets over the horizon. Very well equipt and all well kept and looked after. The house looks much bigger inside than the photos show. The owners were very helpful and we had good contact with them at every step. The restaurant across the valley is well worth a visit too! Would love to return! Thanks for having us!
Relaxing, spacious, clean and equipped
This was our second visit to this villa and again we had a wonderful holiday.
The villa is set in a beautiful spot, with rural views yet not too far from the town of tavira and the coast.
It is very well equipped and offers great space for a family to relax and feel at home.
The pool is a real asset and we (family of four with two young children) made use of it everyday.
The owner provides good communication ahead of travelling and the information provided on arrival is very helpful.
We recommend this villa highly.
Great villa in lovely location
We had a really great holiday here. The villa was exactly as described, and was clean and well maintained. The kitchen was well equipped. Swimming pool was fantastic. Outdoor barbecue was good, and the shaded awning was handy during the sunnier hours of the day.
The villa has great views and sits in the hills.
The owner and caretaker were both friendly and provided good customer service.
We have small children so didn't travel round much during our stay, but we did go to a couple of really nice beaches which were an easy drive away. Tavira is really close by and we enjoyed visiting the local market there. Supermarkets and other amenities were close by also.
I would happily recommend a stay here.
A perfect holiday
Our 2 week holiday in Mariola's villa could not have been better. From the start, communication with the owner was excellent and all questions that we had concerning the villa were answered promptly. The villa itself exceeded expectation. The living area was spacious, the kitchen fully equipped and more. Wine, beer, fruit, cheese, bread etc were in the fridge when we arrived. Everything was clean and attractive and the bedrooms in the wonderful Portuguese sunshine were quickly cooled by the efficient air con. It was wonderful to return to the pool and terrace after a morning spent at one of the beautiful local beaches or in Tavira or Loule. Our little grand daughter's confidence in the pool developed during our holiday and she loved all the inflateables. The hotel opposite, a 10 minute stroll away was a great place to dine in the evening if we didn't fancy driving. The villa has a great collection of dvds but because the weather was so great we didn't watch tv at all...except the football! We (3 generations) had a superb holiday in this villa and we cannot recommend it highly enough.
Excellent Villa - Excellent location
Our 2nd visit to Mariola's villa. Feels very much likehome form home. Very well equipped - a great place to relax and enjoy all of what the Tavira region has to offer
Fab villa in peaceful surroundings!
Good communication before our holiday. Extremely well equipped and clean. Lovely pool area and bbq with shaded area. Extra nice touch was the welcome provision pack, especially having arrived in the middle of the night. Thanks to Robin for greeting us at such a late hour and helping us with directions.
The ideal place to unwind and chill out! The villa is far better than the photos on the website. A real home from home! Thanks for a great holiday.
Would definitely recommend to others.

Activity and Interests
Special interest holidays:
The house is in a rural location, it offers excellent opportunities for walking, bird watching (we often have partridges in the garden), and because of the lack of sodium lighting the night sky is spectacular!
There are several beaches close by (10-15 minutes by car), Tavira beach is a short ferry ride away with lots of bars and restaurants. The beach at Santa Luzia is reached on foot or by a sweet little train ride. A little further afield is the beach at Manta Rota which is HUGE and stretches all the way to Spain with excellent car parking and facilities. Or my personal favourite- Fabrica, no facilities, a boat ride, pure clean sand and water, warm pools and clam picking.
Faro airport is only 30-40 minutes away. Hiring a car is essential - we use Argus or Economy car hire to find the cheapest option.
12 minutes into Tavira with all its facilities, 8 minutes into Santa Catarina where there is a small supermarket, cafes and restaurant. Herdade da Corte (a small hotel) is across the way with a bar and restaurant open to the public.
Tavira is a living working town, it doesn't shut down in winter, and it has been sympathetically restored and retains its Algarvian charm and beauty. There are plenty of excellent restaurants, cafes and a fantastic summer programme with free open air concerts in the town square. The local council is providing something unique - culture and promotion of local skills and talent. There is only one night club and its set on the outskirts of town if that's your scene! Plenty of shops, a new shopping centre and cinemas showing English speaking films for the rare rainy day. The surrounding marshes of the Ria Formosa national park are a bird lovers delight, as well as offering walking, fishing and cycling opportunities.
