About the Owner

I live in Nottinghamshire UK with my wife, daughter and our pet labrador, Tilly. We both work but try to get as much time out in the Alps as possible. I am a keen skier and, on a voluntary basis, am a rep for the Ski Club of GB, leading some of their holidays.

I've always loved staying in authentic, smaller and quieter resorts Morillon fits the bill, being very French and linked in to the big Grand Massif area. The skiing in winter is superb, with 256km of great on and off piste skiing. The mountains and valley are also delightful in the summer with a good range of alpine walking, cycling, mountain biking, canoeing and other pursuits.

The apartment is penthouse style in the roof with lovely wooden beams and sloping ceilings. It is truly ski-in and ski-out with everything on the doorstep.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'It surpassed our expectations. A lovely apartment - light, airy and spacious. The quality of fixtures and fittings is superb. We can't stress enough the sheer convenience of the location - perfectly located for everything.' (Becky and Keith P).

'The apartment is a lovely place to relax after a good day's skiing. It is great to slob out on the sofas after a good meal around the table. Our family of four shared with another family of three and there was plenty of space for us not to be on top of each other. It is spacious and roomy and is warm, comfy and cosy at the same time. The underfloor heating was fab and the location makes everything so easy.' (Stuart and Julie O.).

An excellent apartment, convienantly located to the shops cafe and ski lifts. Clean, spacious and very well equipped the owners welcome pack is a nice touch getting you started what ever time you arrive. Large balcony with views down the valley is a nice place to sit out and relax.

Owner's Response: I'm glad you appreciated the welcome basket. It's great to welcome winter and summer guests in this way. This winter the welcome basked contained a carton of milk, orange juice, coffee, tea, sliced bread, cheese, ham, jam, cake and a bottle of wine. All the beds are made up, bed linen, face towels, bath towels and payment of the tourist tax are all covered by the rental price. My aim is to provide guests with a rental where the price you pay is actually the price and there are no annoying extra costs. When you arrive at the apartment, you can sit back and relax.

Owner's Response: Pleased to hear you had a good holiday. Morillon comes up trumps time and time again as a good place for families. It has won awards for being family friendly. But also, it is a great base for some good off-piste and more challenging skiing as well.

As good as always.....

  • 5 of 5

Our 4th stay at the apartment and it's like a home from home. Dominic, the owner, is great to deal with and this year has put in wifi and streaming UK TV.

It's a great location for ski-in/ski-out, central for the shops and food, and right at the bottom of the main Sairon lift.

We love it here.

Owner's Response: Many thanks. I wish I could be out there myself. Great snow conditions. But I've done my skiing for the year so next thing is to look forward to a cycling and hiking holiday out there in the summer.

1 semaine de ski réussie en famille&amis

  • 4 of 5

Great Stay in Morillion

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed a great stay in Morillion over new year. Two families with four teenagers. The apartment was perfect , amazing location so close to the ski lift and you can literally ski to the door also right opposite the bar and next door to the boulangerie. The Eagles Nest is tastefully furnished and well equipped couldn't fault it. We would definitely return. Dominic the owner made every effort to ensure we enjoyed our stay, thank you.

Owner's Response: Thanks Jackie. Nice to hear that my pre-arrival information and efforts to make guests' stays easy and enjoyable are working. And mention of the boulangerie makes me almost smell their lovely morning croissants all the way over here in rainy Nottinghamshire!! It must be their free wifi transmitting it. With great snow out in Morillon, I know where I'd really like to be.

Location

From the Owner

Traditional villages, all year round holiday activities and lifestyle, fantastic high altitude skiing, real history and stunning scenery were powerful reasons for purchasing in Morillon. The apartment has true Alpine character, light and airy with masses of glazing and a double-height living room with sloping ceilings up the apex of the roof.

Activity and Interests

Car: not necessary

Special interest holidays:

In the main summer season, the chairlift is open giving access to 400km of mountain bike trails and limitless alpine walking. Other summer activities in the valley and mountains include climbing, potholing, paragliding, canoeing and rafting. The recreational park of the 'Lac Bleu' situated down in the valley floor at the very centre of Morillon has a multitude of activities for every age including fishing, swimming, tennis, horse riding and petanque. Further up the valley are the stunning waterfalls of Sixt with many opportunities for walking close to the amazing chutes. Cycling enthusiasts have plenty of choice, whether it is gentle family biking along the valley floor to more serious road biking with plenty of scope for speed and climbs. The Grand Massif lifts are open for mountain bikers in the summer but, even without the lifts, mountain bikers have lots of trail and mountain routes open to them. Bikes can be stored in the underground garage.

A ski hire shop is conveniently located just a few metres from the apartment building. Heading down the mountain, there is a cable car from Les Esserts giving direct access to Morillon village. Morillon is a charming Savoyard village built around a 16th century church. It is a conservation village and manages to retain its individual character as a small resort much loved by generations of French families. A traditional market is held in the main street each week and there is a range of small shops and restaurants. A few miles up the valley is the ancient town of Samoens. With the distinction of being a listed heritage site, Samoëns reveals its history at every turn of its streets, through its houses and sculptures. Regional heritage guides organise guided visits for those interested in history. The town also boasts an impressive botanic garden as well as a good choice of bars and restaurants. The Guardian newspaper has listed Morillon at the top of a list of the top 14 family-friendly ski resorts: 'Loved by generations of French families, this Savoyard village is one of several resorts to have won the French government's 'Famille Plus' label for excellent children's facilities. A 'village des enfants' takes care of those aged six months to 10 years, and there's lots of extra entertainment laid on, such as torch-lit ski descents, dog-sledding and ice-skating' (The Guardian, 16 Jan 2010).

Facilities

From the Owner

It would be difficult to find a more convenient ski-in, ski-out location. The top of the building location of the apartment gives it a spacious penthouse feel as well as the reassurance of peace and quiet with no apartments above. The balcony is spacious with views out across the valley. With a set of tables and chairs. it is perfect for summer alfresco dining. My family regularly visits in the summer - the valley is fantastic, not just for the mountains but for rafting, via ferrata, high wires, the lac bleu swimming lake and beach. All this with hot but comfortable temperatures - typically up around 28 or 30 degree celcius.
