About the property

Complete Privacy-Not Overlooked. Yet Only A 10 Minute Walk Into Patitri

Set in it's own terraced olive grove overlooking the Aegean, surrounded by Pine Trees, Carob Tree House has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. There are several large tiled patios, plus different level garden terraces. The whole property is fully equipped to very high standards, from the cream sofas in the large open plan living area, wooden sun-loungers, to the eye level cooker and ceramic hob . You can unwind in this luxurious property and appreciate the magnificent views and tranquillity of the location. Please note the drive is steep and the walk up from the harbour is harder than the stroll down! Sensible footwear and a torch are good, or George the taxi driver will whisk you back from dinner in the harbour for 6euro. There are several small coves nearby for you to explore and take a dip in the beautifully clear Aegean sea, or you may prefer the scenic walk through pine forests to Megalos Mourtias to swim and have lunch at one of its two tavernas. Another day, why not stroll down to Patitiri and sit at one of the sleepy harbourside taverna's, a lovely way to while away a few hours watching the comings and goings of local fishermen and visiting yachts. From Patitiri you can take the local bus to Steni Vala or the Old Village alternatively local taxi's are inexpensive and reliable.Carob Tree House is available throughout July and August 2018, but other dates could also be available, please enquire through this site. Please not that all previous guest reviews are for the self contained studio apartment (or 3rd bedroom)only as 2018 is the first time for us to rent the whole house.

About Jane Hughes

Having first discovered Alonissos 20 years ago when Chris was asked to teach watercolour painting on the island we always knew that someday we would set down roots there. Our dream was realised in 2005, when with the help of our good friends on the island, we were lucky enough to buy such a magical spot. Miraculously the land purchase and house and studio build were completed within 12 months and we now spend early and late summer living painting and teaching in this idyllic setting. Chris has been a freelance artist for 30 years and we are lucky enough to spend our summers providing painting tuition holidays on Alonissos. As we wake each morning and watch the sunrise from our bedroom window and the young Eleanora Falcons learning to fly we have to pinch ourselves in case we are still dreaming.

Jane Hughes purchased this villa in 2005

Why Jane Hughes chose Alonnisos

The privacy, location and views are amazing yet it is easy to walk down to the harbour or local beaches. The walk and drive are steep coming back, but the views are worth it !! During the summer of 2015 we were delighted to discover a pair of Bonelli Eagles nesting in the nearby pine trees, plus Eleanora Falcons swooping regularly by.

What makes this villa unique

Jane loves the scent of the pine trees surrounding the terraced olive grove and we both enjoy exploring the many walking trails that surround us.

Idyllic location, great holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a three week stay at Carob Tree House, and rate it as the best accommodation we have experienced on Alonnisos. The studio is exactly as described on the website, well-equipped, spotlessly clean, and comfortable, and the location is perfectly idyllic with views of the sea and Two Brothers Islands. We received a warm welcome from our hosts, and the "welcome pack" was much appreciated as we arrived late evening. We were well looked after, and had a wonderfully relaxing stay(so peaceful and tranquil). We would definitely recommend to friends and family, in fact we liked so much that we have booked again for next year! We can recommend Megalo Mourtias Taverna and, for authentic greek evening/music "To Komaki" ( in Patitiri).

A very special place

  • 5 of 5

Chris and Jane provided clear and accurate information about their studio. Chris met us from the ferry and took us back at the end of our stay. In the house they had provided a complete portfolio of information which was clear and very helpful. The Studio is located as described in an old olive grove in a quiet location 10 minutes walk from the town. The studio, a lower floor of their house is completely self contained, spotlessly clean and well equipped- best of all the little terrace has shade, comfortable furniture and a stunning view out over the Aegean. We were offered fresh linen and towels mid stay, and even some separate towels for the beach; Chris and Jane were available if we needed anything but were never intrusive and made us feel welcome and at home. It was a delight and we enjoyed every minute of our stay there.

Lovely and quiet with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

Chris and Jane were lovely hosts - they were very unobtrusive but on hand with useful tips and advice about the island whenever we needed them. The bed was king size which was ideal in the heat and the air conditioning and fan allowed us to be comfortable too. The kitchen was small but well equipped and we enjoyed using it.

The area of the island close to the property is beautiful, with lots of exploring and swimming possible.

We would definitely recommend the accommodation for a couple and found it to be clean and well supplied with bottled water.

Rather basic, not as comfortable as we had hoped

  • 1 of 5

We have stayed in several properties with Owners' Direct, and this is the least comfortable and least friendly so far. The studio is essentially part of the owners' home, you are in a little room below their balcony, which means there is no sense of privacy. The studio is basically only a bedroom with no comfortable seating, which works in fine weather when you can sit outside, but if there are too many wasps or mosquitoes there is nowhere to be comfortable. The kitchen area was awkward to use as the little cooker is on a high shelf, so cooking for yourself is not really an option. The lack of personal touches was what surprised us most, no books, no soap, very little provided. The owners were willing to provide things we needed, but had to be asked each time for basics like water and adapter plugs etc. This accommodation is similar to staying in a cheap Pension, a basic neutral space. This in itself is not bad, just not what we have come to expect from this site. I should also mention the location, it is an extremely steep hill. We are both pretty fit and stayed here in September. I would not like to be there at a hotter time of year, walking to the town or beach and back would be quite gruelling then!

Owner's Response: Never having received a bad review, a response is difficult. Maybe the best answer is to make up your own minds by reading other impartial reviews available, but be reassured a friendly welcome is absolutely guaranteed, as are all the original paintings and prints by my artist husband Chris, that decorate the studio.

A little piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5

If you like total peace and quiet (apart from the cicades!) and the most amazing views then this is the place for you. Imagine sitting on the terrace, with the heady scent of jasmine, looking out over the beautiful gardens to the sea and islands, eating breakfast and deciding which bit of beautiful Alonissos to visit today!

Although Jane and Chris live above the studio they are very discreet and are always on hand for help or advice.

The studio is in an excellent lcation as it is only a 10 to 15 minute walk into Pattitiri although the walk back up the hill after a good meal and a glass or two of wine can take a little longer!

We had the most perfect holiday and would highly recommend Carob Tree studio.

studio tt confort et accueil +chaleureux

  • 5 of 5
