Overview

About the property

Cottage near Lavenham, Suffolk, England - Idyllic Rural Location near Lavenham

Renovated in 2009 this luxury, 2 bedroom cottage is packed with charming period features (hand-made brick floors, old oak wall-panelling, exposed timber frame etc). Inside is warm and inviting with tapestry style curtains in golds and rusts frame mullioned windows, the open plan downstairs comes with large comfy sofas, chunky oak worktops and underfloor heating. In the bedrooms, find wonky wooden beams and antique furniture, made cosy with white cotton sheets and splashes of deep reds and oranges in the rugs and throws. And then there's the view. Gaze out across the meadows teeming with flora and fauna to the River Brett meandering through the grounds. You can borrow a boat, go fishing or explore the nearby medieval villages with their bounty of heritage sites. Yet Chelsworth is so pretty you'll hardly need to leave. Spend an evening under the stars with 2 private patios, a BBQ and deck chairs for that very reason.

About Sarah Cullen

I have loved living, working and bringing up my children in this beautiful part of Suffolk for the past 20 years or so.

Sarah Cullen purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Sarah Cullen chose Suffolk

The cottage occupies a truely unique position next to the church in the middle of this quiet village. It's wonderfully peaceful and tranquil.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We agree with what everyone else has said as this has been such a special place to be. Very relaxing and private and of all the cottages we have stayed in this is definitely our favourite. We loved it here and we will miss the views, the beams, the quietness and peace. Locals very helpful and friendly in the pub. We have had some lovely walks and look forward to our next visit. Finally, thank you so much to our hosts for your welcome and kindness.

Wonderful break at The Old Pottery

  • 5 of 5

We've just spent a fantastic 3 nights at The Old Pottery. The location is stunning - surrounded by wonderful countryside with lovely walks and great pubs. The walks that we chose weren't too taxing but the views were gorgeous and we saw enormous hares, plenty of pheasants and a deer.

The Old Pottery itself is beautifully furnished and had everything that we needed. Sarah was a fantastic host making us feel extremely welcome. The welcome treats (including eggs from her chickens) and flowers were a lovely touch.

Our 8-year old son really enjoyed playing with Marmite, the friendly cat, stroking the horses in the field next door and watching the chickens roaming free.

We cannot wait to return!

Perfect blend of charm, history and convienence

  • 5 of 5

I traveled to Suffolk from the United States and was looking for a place to relax while I attended to some family business. The Old Pottery Cottage was the perfect place for me and my sister.

The cottage is beautifully decorated, clean and very well maintained. Downstairs has a fully-equipped kitchen, sitting room and bathroom. All of the appliances and plumbing were modern and easy to use. There was plenty of hot water in the shower. There are two bedrooms upstairs with a cute little door between them. Each bedroom has it's own staircase downstairs. I was there in February, and the cottage was warm and dry. Two separate controls managed the heat in the downstairs and the upstairs.

Sarah met me and my sister when we arrived and gave us a tour of the cottage. She had turned on the heat and even electric blankets for the beds! She had stocked the kitchen with orange juice, fresh bread, milk and eggs. We also had the opportunity to meet Sarah's family and they are all delightful people.

I highly recommend this cottage for anyone who wants to experience English charm while enjoying modern luxuries.

A characterful cottage for a winter break

  • 5 of 5

There's a feeling of history in this very comfortable and cosy country cottage. The clay tiled floors, beams and creaky floor embue it with an atmosphere of timelessness, complemented by its position alongside the owners' manor house and the village church. It's also well situated, in lovely countryside with a good local pub (the Peacock), a farm shop a short drive away and walks to picturesque villages such as Kersey.

The cottage provides a warm welcome from Sarah (the owner), her chickens and dog and, notably, from Marmite the cat - what a star! - who paid us regular visits and accompanied us on a stroll to the church.

We're looking forward to returning!

Great two bed cottage in the heart of Suffolk, we spent 10 days whilst visiting family. Very well appointed and good sized bedrooms with plenty of space. Owner Sarah and family are lovely, very flexible and always willing to help with all requests!

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week at the Old Pottery. The cottage was full of character and very comfortable. We greatly appreciated the welcome food pack and Sarah's friendly welcome and knowledge of the area. The village and surrounding area are charming and the glorious weather and Chelsworth Open Gardens Day were an added bonus. We hope to visit again.

Holiday at the Old Pottery

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect place to stay; peaceful, private, well equiped, very clean and comfortable and it felt special to stay in such a historic building. Our outside sitting area was pretty and also well equiped. Good places to visit nearby with something for everyone - we met up with friends and their toddler, there were toys for her and a simple day out at a nearby farm shop that suited all of us.

Excellent customer service - not intrusive but checks that we had everything we needed. I would (and have) recommend this property. believe the pictures on the website, this is a lovely place to stay and relax.
