Luxury Converted Medieval Cottage in Beautiful Village

Overview

Property

Updated: 28-Nov-2016
Cottage near Lavenham, Suffolk, England - Idyllic Rural Location near Lavenham

Renovated in 2009 this luxury, 2 bedroom cottage is packed with charming period features (hand-made brick floors, old oak wall-panelling, exposed timber frame etc). Inside is warm and inviting with tapestry style curtains in golds and rusts frame mullioned windows, the open plan downstairs comes with large comfy sofas, chunky oak worktops and underfloor heating. In the bedrooms, find wonky wooden beams and antique furniture, made cosy with white cotton sheets and splashes of deep reds and oranges in the rugs and throws. And then there's the view. Gaze out across the meadows teeming with flora and fauna to the River Brett meandering through the grounds. You can borrow a boat, go fishing or explore the nearby medieval villages with their bounty of heritage sites. Yet Chelsworth is so pretty you'll hardly need to leave. Spend an evening under the stars with 2 private patios, a BBQ and deck chairs for that very reason.

We agree with what everyone else has said as this has been such a special place to be. Very relaxing and private and of all the cottages we have stayed in this is definitely our favourite. We loved it here and we will miss the views, the beams, the quietness and peace. Locals very helpful and friendly in the pub. We have had some lovely walks and look forward to our next visit. Finally, thank you so much to our hosts for your welcome and kindness.

Great Cottage, great location

  • 5 of 5

Great two bed cottage in the heart of Suffolk, we spent 10 days whilst visiting family. Very well appointed and good sized bedrooms with plenty of space. Owner Sarah and family are lovely, very flexible and always willing to help with all requests!

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week at the Old Pottery. The cottage was full of character and very comfortable. We greatly appreciated the welcome food pack and Sarah's friendly welcome and knowledge of the area. The village and surrounding area are charming and the glorious weather and Chelsworth Open Gardens Day were an added bonus. We hope to visit again.

Holiday at the Old Pottery

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect place to stay; peaceful, private, well equiped, very clean and comfortable and it felt special to stay in such a historic building. Our outside sitting area was pretty and also well equiped. Good places to visit nearby with something for everyone - we met up with friends and their toddler, there were toys for her and a simple day out at a nearby farm shop that suited all of us.

Excellent customer service - not intrusive but checks that we had everything we needed. I would (and have) recommend this property. believe the pictures on the website, this is a lovely place to stay and relax.

The perfect short or long break

  • 5 of 5

Recently enjoyed a much needed short break in this beautiful cottage.

It's located in a peaceful, rural setting but is not at all isolated as there are local shops not too far away. Lovely walks and places to eat nearby.

This cottage is very well equipped and extremely comfortable. It has a warm cosy feel and you can't help but feel immediately relaxed.Everywhere spotlessly clean and well maintained.

A warm welcome by the owner. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and she has a good knowledge of great places to eat and things to do in the area. A welcome pack and fresh flowers are a lovely touch.

Highly recommended!

The unspoiled village of Chelsworth is one of the prettiest in Suffolk with lovely thatched, painted cottages and the meandering River Brett teeming with wildlife. Enjoy fishing or take the boat for a paddle. Look out for kingfishers, otters & watervoles.

Our local pub, The Peacock, is 50 yards away. You can enjoy local ales and good food in front of a warm log fire or in the pretty walled garden. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area which we can happily recommend.

The unspoiled medieval wool village of Lavenham is just 5 minutes drive away. Timber framed buildings line the streets and market place. Enjoy visiting the magnificent church, galleries, shops and wonky tea houses. Other lovely historic nearby market towns and villages include Long Melford, Hadleigh and Kersey.

Our award-winning farm shop, Hollow Trees, is 3 minutes drive away and sells fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, bread, local cheeses, cakes, wines, beers and washing powder! We also have 2 very well stocked community shops, each a mile away.

We provide you with a delicious welcome pack of local produce including tea, coffee, milk, butter, eggs, bread and orange juice. We also have a travel cot and high chair for guests to use. You are welcome to use our family bicycles to explore country lanes.
