Wonderful views

  • 4 of 5

The location, close to Pisa airport, and yet out in the countryside is ideal. The views are spectacular and the farmhouse well equipped and comfortable. Luisa and Colin are delightful and responded swiftly and comprehensively to my queries prior to booking. The property is close to both Pisa and Lucca and it's an easy train ride from Pisa to Florence. We had very nice 'neighbours' in the adjoining property and we experienced the Tuscan banquet together which was a really fun evening and well worth the money. The single track road up to the property is not for the faint hearted.and on the second day we had puncture going back down the track - thank goodness for Luisa and her fluent Italian! Within 40 minutes on a Sunday evening, the car was collected by a pick up truck and on Monday morning Luisa kindly drove us back to Pisa airport to collect a replacement car - that's exceptional customer service! Last but not least the pool was warm -no heart attack when you jump in!

Bellissimo La Lucertola

  • 5 of 5

What to say about La Lucertola other than bellissimo!

We stayed in house number 1 and having booked our stay over a year ago in advance we were delighted on arrival and during our stay with our choice of location. The houses are both beautiful and nestle on a hillside with amazing views across the countryside and the leaning tower of Pisa in the distance.

House 1 was spotlessly clean and was very much like a home from home during our stay. Being a family of five with three kids the house was more than big enough for our stay with two huge bedrooms, one ensuite and an additional bathroom for the kids. A big kitchen and large lounge downstairs with two sofa beds. We spent most of our time sat outside either under the pergola, sunbathing or by the pool, which is fantastic and the decked area the result of a lot of hard work.

With a new wifi system fitted we were very impressed with the signal and with three kids and a number of iPads and tablets, all managed to use these without any problems, which was great considering the location and speaking to Colin & Luisa, i know that they have invested in the new system to improve the service for their guests.

The houses are within easy reach of Lucca and Pisa and with a train station near by if you don't want to drive easy rail links to Lucca, Pisa and Florence or even further afield if you want to adventure.

We truly had a magical stay at La Lucertola and Colin, Luisa and Max are very welcoming and excellent hosts. They are on hand if you need any guidance or advice but also ensure that you have the space to totally relax and soak up the Tuscan way of life.

We loved our stay so much that I know we will be back again in the future and for such high quality accommodation at peak season in the summer La Lucertola is exceptional value for money. It really is a special as it looks when you see the photos and read the description on the internet, so do not hesitate book your stay as you will not be disappointed.

Many thanks and the very best wishes to Colin, Luisa and Max.

Wonderful family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderful family holiday at La Lucertola. Luisa, Colin and Max were warm and friendly hosts and were always on hand if needed to provide advice and tips. Travelling with two children, including an 18 month old is not always easy but La Lucertola was ideal with a travel cot, high chair and lots of toys for the children to play with.

The views right across to the leaning tower of Pisa are absolutely breathtaking and the house has been decorated and is kept to a really high standard. The swimming pool was a real added bonus and for two weeks our family had the swimming pool to ourselves which the children definitely made the most of.

Our nine year old said it was cool with loads of lovely towns and places to visit, especially Lucca where she recommends hiring a bike and cycling along the wall. She also loved Pinocchio world and a day out to Collodi is a treat for all the family with the stunning Garzoni gardens nearby.

I would really recommend La Lucertola as an excellent place to stay for families with children. Great house, great views, great swimming pool and a fantastic base to explore Tuscany. Florence, Livorno, Pisa, Vinci, Pesciola, Cecina water park - all great places and all within roughly an hours drive.

Quite perfect

  • 5 of 5

Not like me to leave reviews, but La Lucertola is special and certainly felt perfect. I can't imagine a more authentic way to enjoy Tuscany's beautiful landscape. Breathtaking views from morning to night!

Quiet yet so handy for a beautiful beach and characterful cities Lucca, Pisa and Viareggio. And did I mention such kind and attentive owners, who seem to have thought about every detail to make our stay very memorable.

From the Owner

Luisa taught English in a school near Pisa in 1986 and fell in love with the area. We returned, many times. We made lifelong friends and began to feel that this could be a new home and a new life. After 12 years of living and working in London, we decided to take the plunge, change direction and embrace the challenge of creating a new life. We wanted to be closer to nature, direct our own affairs and to live in a beautiful place with a decent climate. We found La Lucertola as a semi ruin, completely overgrown and crying out for some love and attention. We first fell in love with the incredible view and the prospect of living in the country but close to Pisa and the sea. The view is unique, breathtaking and inspiring. We can see The Leaning Tower, the coast & the islands of Capraia & Corsica.
