About the property

Villa between St. Climent and Cala'n Porter, Menorca, Balearic Islands - Quiet Location, Gentle Walk To Spectacular Cala Coves

The villa is set in quiet woodland with sea glimpses, yet is only a short drive to the airport. Walk through a woody valley, and follow country paths to the camí de cavalls. Canutells and Calas Covas are both a twenty to thirty minute walk away. The large surrounding gardens include a large swimming pool with slide, fountain, fish pond, trampoline and slides. Poolside are sunbathing terraces and BBQ with shaded dining area. Running along the side of the villa is an arched cloister for shaded relaxation. Beyond the pool is a beautiful shady valley within a small secluded woodland area. Totally private and accessible via a Secret gate! Inside is spacious and open plan incorporating modern kitchen, dining area and large living space. There is a double, 1 twin room and bathroom downstairs. A wrought iron spiral staircase leads upstairs to a large loft with Kingsize and twin beds, bathroom and dressing room. Stunning Calas Coves is nearby with its crystal clear, turquoise water. Fantastic for swimming and snorkeling. Climbing and exploring the many caves are another must. Take the cliff top path to Calan Porter's expansive beach and bars. Great for entertainment and nightlife. Sip sundowners at the caves of Xoriguer, voted Europe's most spectacular nightspot.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: This villa is in a very quiet cul-de-sac with virtually no traffic so is very safe for children. Although set in a large plot with lots to entertain kids, the adjacent woodland is full of birds and wildlife. It is lovely, cool and shady for exploration. It is possible to walk to the coast from here across fields and a few low walls! The upstairs loft is very large with an equally big terrace. Blinds and awning are provided. This area is fantastic for kids to spread out, make a mess and have fun. Outside: Gardens go all the way around the villa and include olive and palm trees, hibiscus, bouganvillea, jasmine and lantana. Oleander bushes around the perimeter give privacy and lots of colour. The outside area under the cloisters is particularly pretty and relaxing, overlooking the garden fountain. Wrought iron table, chairs and sofa have cushions for comfort. The private swimming pool is large, 10 x 5 metres with steps into the water at the shallow end. There is a steep slide at the deep end and metal step ladder. Another adjacent terrace has a BBQ and large dining table with 8 chairs. There is a roll out awning over the dining area. There is a selection of sun loungers with cushions and large umbrellas. The upstairs terrace has a wrought iron table and chairs. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bath towels and bed linen are included. Beach towels available upon request. Property clean upon arrival. Extra cleaning available on request. Other: Loft has childrens bookcase and toys if requested. Cloister area has wrought iron garden furniture. Large outside dining table and ample chairs. Overhead roll out awning for shade if needed.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely villa with great facilities for all. We, we're a group from ages 2, to teens, to 40s and 60s. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time. We stayed for 15 days. Either lounging around the pool or visiting nearby beautiful beaches and coves (car needed).

The owner (Karen) was very helpful with great advice and tips to tailor trips for your own requirements. Some fantastic restaurants a short drive away.

Overall, a thoroughly relaxing holiday in a tranquil location. Wish we were still there. A big thank you to Karen!

Stunning villa in an idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this villa last year as part of an extended family group and it was fantastic. The pool is a brilliant size in comparison with other villas we have stayed at, and the kids absolutely adored the slide and the trampoline.

We really made the most of the outside space with its different seating areas including sunloungers by the pool, a dining and bbq area as well as other seating areas in the shade around the side of the villa surrounded by the gardens..we were spoilt for choice! It was great because we didn´t feel crowded. The surrounding woodand area is so pretty, and you really feel a million miles away from anywhere, it's such a relaxing place to stay and switch off, and yet just a few minutes walk away there´s a great pub and it's only a few minutes by car to the nearest beaches and towns, so it wasn't at all isolated.

The interior of the villa is well equipped with modern, comfortable furnishings and has a lovely airy feel to it. The upstairs bedroom is great for kids, we had a couple of teenagers and a 10 and 11 year old who treated t like their own private den - fantastic!

My favourite memories of our holiday in this villa were of daytimes by the pool with al the kids happily playing in the pool and gardens, and evenings by the pool sat outside eating, drinking and chilling out. looking at the stars and listening to the crickets.

Unfortunately we aren't able to go on holiday this year, but we still all talk about our lovely holiday in Menorca, and hope to come back sometime soon.

Must also give a mention to the lovely owner, Karen, she was so helpful and friendly, and gave us lots of helpful advice and suggestions.

Owner's Response: It really makes me happy when I see that families have had such a special time in the villa. I am a yoga teacher and so am very aware of how important it is to switch off and re-connect with ourselves and our loved ones. All the seating areas that Jo mentioned are specifically for that - sitting!! But somehow sitting in tranquil, beautiful gardens allows us to unwind and ground ourselves. I have many repeat clients now who love Menorca and the villa. I have a Tardis under the covered walkway, which is full of creative toys. I love the look on the childrens faces when I show them inside! A lot of my repeat bookings are due to kids begging to come back! The only problem is that they don't want to leave the villa! But parents say the Tardis is a godsend. I hope so. I really do try to create a special break for families in these tough times.

Location

Coast/Beach:

The coast is less than 2km away. Beautiful, natural Calas Coves is 5 minutes by car along a track or 25 minutes from the start of the track if walking. Although the walk is highly recommended, it is downhill and therefore uphill on the way back! Fantastic for snorkeling in the crystal clear water, climbing and exploring the many caves. Walk to Calan Porter along a scenic cliff top path or another 5 mins by car. The big sandy beach has cafes and bars virtually on it!

Travel:

Mahon airport is 10 minutes by car. Car hire is necessary in Menorca because the many beaches are all around the island. In many cases buses do not run to them. Also, waiting for a bus in soaring temperatures with children is not fun!

Distances:

The nearest village is Sant Climent, 5 minutes by car. Calan Porter is the same distance. Mahon is 10 minutes by car. There are many bars and restaurants locally including Nelsons bar only 5 minute stroll from the villa. Friendly and reasonable, this bar is a great success with all visitors.

Menorca has more prehistoric remains than anywhere else in the world. Talaiotic villages, established 3000 years ago are well worth visiting (not dis-similar to Stone Henge).

Further Details:

There are several banks in Sant Climent. The local Spar is very good, particularly for English products. For a bigger shop, any of the supermarkets in Mahon are better value.

If you are eating out with children, Calan Porter offers a wide variety of choice at a reasonable price. Nightly entertainment is the price of a drink and lots of fun. Nelsons bar, only 5 minutes from the villa is always a favourite. Ca'n Bernat, at the entrance to Son Vitamina and Calas Coves, is typically Menorcean and very good. With its open kitchen, you can choose your own cut of meat! Es Moli de Foc in Sant Climent is one of the best on the island and perfect for a special treat.

As part of UNICEF's Biosphere Reserve, Menorca has a wealth of wildlife. Albufera is home to migrating birds. As is nearby Es Grau beach, with its warm shallow water it is a great favourite for those with young children. As are the waterparks in Cuitadella, an hours drive away. Also for young children there is a small, free aqua park at Punta Prima, very close to the beach and park. A bar on the beach here called Sebastians offers great value.

Fornells is another beautiful bay and nature reserve with a sea inlet protected from winds. It has its own islands, creeks and virgin beaches. Popular for windsurfing, sailing and kayaking.

Menorca has a very interesting and varied history. La Mola on the far side of the port is a fort built at the mouth of the harbour to protect it. The TV series Hornblower was filmed there and is well worth a visit. Both the British and French occupied the island and architectural evidence of this is available everywhere.

The port itself is very beautiful and worth a stroll. Take a trip on one of the glass bottomed boats. They give a good historical commentary. Note Admiral Nelsons house with its distinctive Georgian facade. The next little bay as you approach the mouth of the harbour is Calas Fonts. Picturesque, its night markets and sea food rest are always busy.
