BIG NEWS--A new INFINITY swimming pool is being built this winter. Due to the location of La Bergerie, the 10 metre infinity side will have the most stunning views, overlooking the valleys and hills, towards the Mediterranean . La Bergerie is a stunning old stone built farmhouse set in 11 acres of wooded land in a peaceful surrounding overlooking the olive groves and vineyards of Saint Clement. It also has distant views of the Mediterranean. The property is one of the highest in the area and the views are breath taking, whether the sun is rising in the morning or setting in the evening. The village of La Garde-Freinet is 2km away and St.Tropez 15kms. The inside of La Bergerie has been totally refurbished. All rooms have been either repainted or re plastered in the traditional Provincial style. An extension has been built and a 2 metre deep balcony has been added to the front of the farmhouse. Outside a new wall has been built, which adjoins the steps to the extension and proceeds along the whole gravel courtyard. Recently a professional 'boule' pitch has been built, and this winter a 10 metre INFINITY POOL and new pool house is being constructed.

About the Owner

About the owners-our names are Carole and Ali we are in our 60s have three huge sons in their 20s and early 30s and have two cats. We live in Dorset. We have been looking for a house in different parts of France for many years, we fell in love with La Garde-Freinet. We bought La Bergerie in Sept (09)

Why Provence?

The hills overlooking the Cote d'Azur give the best of both worlds. The views of the Med. are breathtaking and the ambiance of the medieval village fantastic. The peace is there if you want it, so is the razzmatazz of St Tropez with its boats, beaches, marinas, celebrities and night life.

We stayed in this house the summer before last and had an okay stay. The owner in the UK was very nice. But when we arrived the ladies looking after the house were less than welcoming. They hadn't made up all the rooms as they presumed my 3 children would all share! I then immediately saw that one of the throws on the beds had a massive bogey on it. We had only been in the house about 45 seconds. They told me this could not be changed for a clean one!!!! After I explained that I had paid thousands of pounds to rent the house and I did not want a bogey on my sheets, they did grudgingly take it!!! But this did upset me as they were quite aggressive. Apart from that there is no air conditioning and the pool is some sort of homemade freezing cold above the ground type construction that has a 1.5 metre drop around it. So not at all suitable for children, I wish I had known this as I would not have booked the house. Some better pictures of the pool would ensure people are not disappointed on arrival.

From the Owner

We rented the property from the previous owners to make sure it was as beautiful to stay in as it looked. It was. We fell in love with it. The property is 11 acres so gives you peace and quiet and tranquility, no overlooking from other properties. But it overlooks olive groves and vineyards and rolling hills down to the sea in the distance. La Bergerie is situated and the top of a long drive straight off a quiet road. It is 15/20 mins to the A8 and to St Tropez and St Maxime.(subject to traffic) Cogolin Port Grimaud and Grimaud are all closer. It means that the high life is near at hand. The best of both worlds, it's there if you want.

Activity and Interests


The nearest beaches of the Mediterranean are anywhere between Saint Tropez and Saint Maxime which are about 12 kms. The famous Pampelonne Beach with its multitude of beach restaurants, bars and clubs is by Saint Tropez. Most beaches are child friendly with gently sloping sands and lifeguards on duty.


The nearest airport is Toulon Hyeres 50kms/50mins. Nice and Marseille are also close being between 75 and 90mins away.

The A8 autoroute is 15/20mins away and the TGV can be accessed at Aix-en-Provence or Les Arcs. The distance to Calais is approx. 715 miles, please see our web site for help with exact distances to your home.

A car is recommended but airport transfers and other trips can be arranged. There are local taxis that can be booked for evening trips to Saint Tropez etc.


The following towns and villages are within 5/15kms; St. Tropez, St. Maxime, Grimaud, Cogolin, Port Grimaud, Le Luc, Gonfaron, Plan-de-la-Tour, Gassin, Ramatuelle and Vidauban.

The famous Gorge du Verdun is 1 1/2 hours drive from the house. With it's emerald green waters, the beaches, the rapids, the canoe and boat rides it is a must for all ages. Absolutely stunning.

The water park at St Maxime is also worth a visit, 20mins away.

Further Details:

La Garde-Freinet is the closest village and is 2km away. It is a beautiful medieval village with and old fort gouged from the rock to a depth of 8 metres. Possible first founded by the Saracens in AD880. It is overlooked by The Cross Of The Moors which is 6metres high.

There are an abundance of shops,including supermarkets, bakers, butchers, hairdressers, pharmacy, paper-shop and local craft shops. There is a post office, a bank with ATM, many bars, resturants and pizzerias. The village has 2 doctors and a dentist. There are market days on Wednesday and Sunday and markets in Cogolin and St Tropez on different days. There is a good Tourist Office in the village with information in several languages. From La Bergerie, St Maxime which is easily accessible, on a quiet road, via Plan de la Tour, is a vibrant seaside town, with a great atmosphere, a large selection of restaurants and bars. It is directly opposite St Tropez and has a three boat ferry service to and from the respective harbours.

As the photos confirm the views from everywhere are stunning. Image being in the private swimming or sunbathing around it and looking down on a picture postcard. 11 acres of your own land means you don't have to go to the country you have your own. Beautiful coloured butterflies and moths, tortoises, birds etc all for your enjoyment. Terraces created by previous owners possible for vineyards and old stone buildings used for making charcoal all there for your adventures while roaming over the hilly woods. Walking and mountain biking straight from the property along marked routes to poetic places. The village of La Garde-Freinet is friendly and fun and has all the shops bars and restaurants that you could want. There is also the old fort to investigate and The Cross high above the village

  • Outside: This property has 11 acres which makes for interesting walks, fantastic views and varied different eating areas(all with different tables and chairs) both in the sun and in the shade, one of which is under a group of oak trees with views overlooking Saint Clement and on to the sea. There is a good sized patio with barbecue and a private pool with various sun loungers and chairs. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen for bedrooms included as are extra towels for the pool. Linen changed weekly and property cleaned weekly. Catering and extra cleaning can be organised at the renter's expense.
