Spacious, Restored Luxury Farmhouse Holiday Home in Faye La Vineuse, Richelieu, Indre et Loire - In The Heart Of The Loire Countryside, Peaceful, Rural, Yet Close To All Local And Holiday Amenities

Our secluded, lovingly restored old farmhouse is in a peaceful and tranquil south-facing location offering a well equipped, heated, comfortable, exclusive-use family holiday home accommodating 9 to 11 guests (including two cots). The four bedrooms consist of two double bedrooms, one large family bedroom and one twin bedroom. Our house has two kitchens and two lounges which gives plenty of space for large groups and also enables it to be split into two separate units so that when two families holiday together they can each have privacy if desired.

La Baudiere is built around a large, south-facing, open courtyard which offers stunning views over the local farmland, woodland and our 10x4m swimming pool (heated by a specialist low energy, carbon efficient, solar system, in a secure area with safety-gate access). Beyond the pool is a small, grassy, kiddie play area with swing set, sandpit and various toddler toys.

Our house consists of a large, main kitchen which has a spacious table that can seat up to 12, large oven, induction hob, microwave and dishwasher. The second, smaller kitchen seats 4 and includes a washing machine, ironing board etc. We have two spacious lounges, each with UK satellite TV, comfy sofas and coffee tables, bookshelves with a selection of books and games and dvds for guests' use. Both lounges open into the kitchens and also out on to the sunny courtyard.

Outside are two built-in charcoal barbecues for alfresco mealtimes, one is in the pool area with plenty of tables and seating under the shady gazebo, the other is under the front of the open barn with a large table and plenty of chairs .

Large wooden gates at the courtyard entrance ensure privacy and child safety, we have plenty of space outside to park up to 5 cars.

We are situated close to the historical medieval village of Faye la Vineuse with its 9th century church and post office/grocery/bakery depot/shop. There are several beautiful walking and cycling routes for our guests to explore in this area too, suitable for all ages as our countryside is softly rolling with lots of cart tracks and opportunites to see local wildlife such as deer, hares, a wide range of birdlife and even the odd farmer or two...

Nearby are several other villages with restaurants, shops, bakeries. We are ideally located in the Loire region for exploring the beautiful countryside as well as such attractions as horse riding, go-karting, canoeing, zoos, cycle routes and golf courses; the historic towns of Richelieu, Chinon, Saumur, Tours and Poitiers, the famous chateaux of Chambord, Blois, Amboise and Chenonceaux.

About Sue and Steve

Although I bought La Baudiere (as a virtual ruin!) in 2000, I was only able to spend a few weeks a year here until 2007, when I gave up my job and moved here full time. Restoring the property and grounds has been a labour of love and I now at last enjoy sharing my beautiful home with my partner, Sue, our two Bernese Mountain dogs Elsa and Bruno, our families and friends and the many guests who book to stay each summer.

Why Sue and Steve chose Faye-la-Vineuse

The Indre et Loire region of France is so peaceful, it has such a wonderful summer climate and is of so much historic interest that, after several years of holidaying here with my young daughters, it was a natural progression to purchase a property. I fell in love with this (then derelict) house because of its stunning views with colours that change with the crop rotation and the seasons.

As this area of France is known for having the second most hours of sunshine annually after the Riviera, a priority part of the major restoration project was the installation of the swimming pool!

What makes this farmhouse unique

Although La Baudiere is located in such a tranquil, rural setting, all amenities are close by and travelling here from the UK can easily be achieved within a day. Three airports are in easy reach and travelling by car via a variety of channel crossing points is also straight-forward.

La Baudiere, its courtyard and pool area all face south and enjoy hours of sunshine all year round.

Notes on accommodation: Our farmhouse is available as an exclusive-use whole house making it ideal for families and large groups with the advantage of two large lounge spaces and two kitchen areas. Total bedroom space consists of 2 double bedrooms, one large family bedroom and one twin bedroom. All double bedrooms have space for a cot if required. All the beds have continental quilts (duvets) and 2 pillows per person. Bed linen, large bath towels and extra pool towels per person are provided. For 2 week bookings we change all linen and towels on the middle Saturday free of charge. Two cots and highchairs are available on request at no extra charge. There is a safety gate for the staircase. We have hairdryers and UK plug adapters for guests use. WIFI (LIMITED) now available throughout our house free of charge. After-stay cleaning is included at no extra cost. We don't allow smoking in the house but we are happy to permit smoking outside provided cigarette butts are removed. Outside: The 10x4m pool (solar heated) is solely for the use of our guests and is in a secure area with safety-lock gated access. There are sun loungers (with cushions), small tables and parasols around the pool whilst the paved pool terrace, shaded by a large gazebo, has a charcoal BBQ, table with seating for 6 (spare chairs in stock) and a comfy lounging area. Each kitchen patio area is also equipped with its own barbecue and dining area. Table tennis (ping-pong, bats and balls supplied); Boules set; Childrens' play area with double swing set and sandpit. The patio area in front of the main kitchen extends into the open barn. It contains a large table (seats up to 12) and a barbecue. There is a washing line in the large open barn and a clothes drying rack. If you are bringing bicycles, these can be safely stored in the open barn. Kitchen-Utility Room: The second, fully fitted kitchen also has a washing machine, ironing board, steam iron, it opens out on to another patio with table and chairs for four.

Lovely property with lovely owners

8 adults and two children enjoyed nearly a week here. The house was superb, very comfortable and really well equipped. The pool was glorious too, heated, covered and beautifully maintained. We used the BBQ everyday and had very sunny weather for 3 days. Although remote and very peaceful Richelieu, only 10 mins away has a good supermarket. There is much to do in the area so we plan to return. Sue and Steve are excellent hosts, helpful without being intrusive - they organised and accompanied the dog's vet check and a lovely surprise birthday cake. Many thanks

Perfect in every way

Beautiful property with such attention to detail. Idillic setting. Sue and Steve live on-site but left us to it aside from prepping and closing down the pool daily which was much appreciated. Can't thank Sue and Steve enough for their hospitality and kindness including driving us into the main town on the last day and picking up later on to get trains etc. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet, secluded and picturesque stay.

Beautiful house near Richelieu

We stayed at Sue and Steve's house last summer and enjoyed ourselves so much that we returned again this year. As always the accommodation was fantastic with all needs catered for. The location is ideal for visiting the surrounding area with our teenage boys particuarly enjoying the Segway tour in Chinon and our daughter the jousting contest in a nearby village. However, we also enjoyed time back at the house relaxing and making use of the swimming pool. As always, Sue and Steve were great hosts providing lots of suggestions of what was on in the area and places worth a visit, including a vineyard for the grown-ups, and making sure we had everything we needed. We can highly recommend a stay with Sue and Steve in their gorgeous house.

Just Perfect

Our extended family of 5 adults, 1 teenager, a 20 month old and a bulldog on his first holiday abroad, have recently returned from a 10 night stay at this lovely farmhouse.

We were made so welcome by owners Sue and Steve who in our opinion went above and beyond by making our stay just perfect. They kindly supplied all the basics for the first few days and as the supermarkets were shut on our arrival day- even prepared a meal .

Sue kindly booked our canoeing trip, accompanied us to the vets at the end of our holiday and even baked a beautiful chocolate cake for my daughter who celebrated her birthday while we were there.

The house was perfect, full of charm and so spacious for all of us. Having the use of both houses in one ensured we didn't feel crowded and had absolutely everything we needed. The outside area was idyllic and so peaceful. It was here we spent most of our time - either in or around the lovely gated pool area , cooking on one of the two BBQs or just sitting around relaxing after a hard day of doing absolutely nothing!

We did manage to drag ourselves off the sunbeds and spent lovely days and evenings in Richelieu and Chinon. The Tree Tops adventure was great fun and The Château d'Ussé - the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty story is absolutely stunning - well worth a visit.

The house is remote - surrounded only by beautiful countryside and colourful sunflower fields but as all of us wanted a carefree relaxing break and this is exactly what La Bourdiere gave us.

Thank you Sue and Steve for an amazing holiday in your home- such happy times and memories for us all.

The seaside town of La Rochelle is just 2 hours drive away. It has a picturesque harbour area with lovely fish restaurants and narrow winding streets and is close to the popular island of Ile de Rey, reached by a spectacular curved 1km long bridge. There are some lovely beaches and little harbour areas with plenty of cafes and restaurants on the island. Bicycles are available there for hire and, as the island is flat, it makes for a pleasant afternoon of leisurely cycling.


We are approximately 6 hours drive from Calais (routes from Dover and Folkestone) and 4 hours from Le Havre or Caen for ferries from Portsmouth. The Newhaven- Dieppe route is also popular, Dieppe is just over 4 hours. Tours and Poitiers Airports are each about 1 hour drive distant. Limoges, La Rochelle and Nantes airports are all around 2 - 3 hours drive away. A car is essential.


Faye la Vineuse (local bakery, mini-shop, post office) 5 mins. St. Gervais (nearest shops including bank, post office, bakery, tabac, pharmacy)10 mins. Richelieu (supermarkets, nearest petrol, banks, post office and more) 15 mins. There are 2 supermarkets open on Sunday mornings within a 20 minute drive. The nearest hypermarket is 30 minutes drive away on the outskirts of Chatellerault. The towns of Chinon and Poitiers are approx 45 mins. Tours and Saumur are both approx 1 hour.

We are located in the Loire region which is known as the “Garden of France”, it is a National Park and has been awarded the title of World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

This area is described by Meteofrance weather guide as having the second most hours of sunshine annually after the Riviera!

As well as the numerous fantastic chateaux in the Loire region, there are lots of other interesting places to visit too; such as the excellent vineyards; the cavalry regiment museum, tank musuem and olympic equine centre in Samur; a troglodyte village; falconry displays in the medieval town of Chauvigny; canoeing, horseriding, walking and cycling routes; go-karting; treetop adventure park; hot-air ballooning; Beauval Zoo which is now home to two Giant Pandas; the award winning Vallee des Singes Monkey Park and the famous Futuroscope.

Cycling for all ages is popular here, there are many cycle tracks and routes close to La Baudiere and the country lanes are so peaceful family cycle trips are a real pleasure. If you don't want to bring your own bicycles, there is a company in Chatellerault that does rentals (including delivery/pickup of bicycles). There is plenty of room in our open barn area for you to store your bicycles too.

There are also lots of counryside walks to take from our house with plenty of chances to spot local wild life such as deer, hares, bird life and even chat with local farmers...

If you are interested in wine-tasting, please ask - we can arrange for you to visit our favourite local vineyard, family run for over 300 years - they offer an English speaking guided tour, including tasting 5 different wines. We can also give you details of other vineyards in the area.

There are several local markets - please see our information on arrival for the various days.

There are horseriding stables within 10 miles, we will be happy to introduce you and help you arrange lessons or outings as required.

We have "home printed" maps for local countryside walks, short or long.

We have lots of leaflets and guide books available for you to browse through but if you have any specific places you'd like to visit, please ask us to help with more information.

All booking requests can be made either by email or by telephone. We require a deposit of 25% on reservation, the balance to be paid in full 8 weeks prior to your holiday date. Full booking terms and conditions will be provided with each reservation enquiry prior to deposit payment being requested.

All bookings enjoy exclusive use of all facilities.

Changeover Day:

Changeover day is Saturday only during school holidays and July and August. During other months we are happy to be flexible so please ask!

You are welcome to occupy your holiday home from 4pm and we ask that you leave by 10 am on your departure day.

Notes on prices:

All prices include bedroom and bathroom heating (thermostat controlled electric radiators) and gas fire and log fire in the two lounges.

Prices are inclusive of all facilities and services including use of the barbecues.

WIFI is free but LIMITED usage as we have only our own satellite dish.
