Apartment in Stylish Conversion of Former Convent set in Peaceful Grounds

Updated: 18-Oct-2016
Apartment in Vouvant, Vendee, Pays de la Loire, France - Overlooking Ancient Church and Square of Beautiful Medieval Village

Le Monastère is a sensitive conversion of a former convent, set within extensive grounds bounded by Vouvant’s fortified ramparts and river. Our first floor apartment overlooks the centre of the village which, with its rich medieval heritage and splendid Romanesque church dating from the 11thC, is decribed by the state as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The village is also a centre for art, with working ateliers and a calendar of cultural events. The village shops include a boulangerie (for the daily baguette), a grocer, gift shops, cafés and restaurants. Slightly further afield, within 10-20 mins drive, are all the amenities of typical French market towns. The region boasts the highest number of sunshine hours on the Atlantic coast and a wide range of attractions: quaint villages, chic resorts, medieval architecture, haunting canal-crossed marshland, ancient forests, sandy beaches, walking, cycling, golf, markets, regional cuisine and the vineyards of the Fiefs Vendéens.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Maureen and Carl from Sheffield – “We had a fantastic time at your apartment, which is beautiful. It was also, without doubt, the best equipped place we have stayed in in France (the 12th gite we've been in). Thank you so much for thinking of all the things which just make life easier.”

Ann and Michael from West Yorkshire – “Thank you for a wonderful holiday. The apartment is lovely, much larger than impression given on website. A hidden gem. We enjoyed the tranquility of 'Le Monastere' and had a relaxing stay. We have booked for two weeks next year already!”

Denis and Denise from Merseyside – “You have a lovely property in a lovely location, I hope you have years and years of pleasure owning it. It was very helpful to be met, shown around and immediate questions answered. We will certainly be thinking of Vouvant the next time we are looking at France for a holiday.”

Sara and Cliff from Kent – “Great holiday, loved the apartment and area, a real home from home.”

A marvellous oasis of style!

  • 4 of 5

The photos don't do justice to how well-equipped is this two-bedroom unit in a converted monetary! Everything possible has been thought of re: furnishings and appliances (bar the amusingly tiny television!), and the property and grounds are immaculately maintained. I didn't use the pool though it looked sparkling. All in all, thoroughly recommendable, and just steps from everything charming Vouvant has to offer. Merci Mille fois, Jacki and Mike!!

We loved our holiday, and had the best combination of a beautiful apartment within a superb complex that includes a pool and extraordinary grounds. Vouvant itself is a charming village set within exquisite natural surrounds.

Beautiful, thank you!

  • 5 of 5

As always Le Monestere was beautiful. The apartment is great, comfortable and with everything we need. The grounds are pretty and well tended. And the residents gave us a warm and friendly welcome. As soon as we drive into Vouvant we relax. Hope to be back next year!

Beautiful Vouvant

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic location! The property was very clean and well equipped, exceeding our expectations. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. Local walks are lovely including the grounds of La Monastere itself. It is within walking distance of all amenities, bars, cafes, boulangerie etc and a short drive to larger towns and villages. We can heartily recommend.
