La Bonne Vie - our chalet is exactly that -'The Good Life'. Situated on a quiet hilltop location with beautiful views across the valley and mountains, the chalet is on the outskirts of the village of Le Chatelard in the Massif des Bauges Regional Park. Le Chatelard is easily accessible by road but still remains unspoilt and retains a certain old world charm and authenticity. It is a quiet, friendly village with a supermarket, restaurant, tourist information, bank and post office and a small local food market every Friday morning held in the summer months selling locally produced cheeses, vegetables, linens and crafts. Les Bauges is an area of outstanding natural beauty, heritage and tradition and our chalet is the perfect base to explore a wide range of outdoor activities or to simply sit back and relax. If you are an adventure seeker, nature lover, walker, skier or cyclist you will find plenty to do in both the summer and winter months. The towns of Annecy, Aix-les-Bains, Chambery and Albertville are all within 30 minutes drive and whether you want to explore the many historical and cultural attractions in these nearby towns or you would rather explore the wine list at one of the local restaurants, La Bonne Vie strikes the perfect holiday balance and makes an idyllic escape for couples, friends and families alike.

In winter enjoy skiing at the nearby ski resorts of Les Aillons / Margeriaz and Le Revard and La Felcaz. These traditional resorts are perfect for families, beginners and intermediates; or off-piste skiing for the more advanced.

The chalet has a comfortable, modern interior which easily accommodates 6 people.

Entering the property through the front door you have a spacious hallway where you can hang up your coats and leave your shoes. Off the hallway is a modern shower room with 90cm shower, basin and WC.

Moving through the hallway you enter a fully equipped modern kitchen with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, oven and induction hob, combination microwave and all the usual cooking utensils and crockery. The kitchen window looks out on the forest and fields and the French doors open out onto a decked out patio area which enjoys the sun from early afternoon until sunset.

As you move through the kitchen towards the front of the property to admire the beautiful views you pass through the dining area with its picture window, large birch table and chairs.

And into the lounge with its ample seating including a large L-shaped sofa. The large windows and sliding doors, with built in electric blinds, provide natural light throughout, giving this area a relaxing, airy atmosphere. A wood burning fire and under floor heating keep you comfortably warm in the winter. Logs supplied. Come down in the morning and, at the touch of a button, allow the light and views to flood in: what a way to start the day!

The lounge / dining area open onto a balcony, the perfect place to sit and enjoy the great views across the valley and of Mt. Colombier.

The chalet is equipped with a flat screen TV/DVD/Satellite & iPod docking station with speakers. A selection of DVD's, board games and books are there for your entertainment.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms, one double and two twin bedded rooms. The front bedrooms having superb views over the valley and the bedroom at the rear overlooks the fields and forest. There is a bathroom with bath, overhead shower, basin and WC. All rooms have electric heaters.

On the ground level is a double length garage and ‘cave' with washing machine, tumble dryer and plenty of storage space for sports equipment, boots, bikes and skis (racks provided). We also have badminton rackets, beach rounders, frisbees etc for you to use.

Relax on the sunny patio in the garden and enjoy a barbecue, (garden furniture seats 6) or just watch the sun go down with a drink on the balcony.

Free WiFi for the first 2gB per week then £10 per gB after that. 2gB per week is usually plenty. Bed linen is supplied. Cleaning at the end of your stay included. Bath towels available at £2.50 each. No smoking or pets please.

Hi, We are Ian and Katie and we live in Kent. We love to travel and spend as much time as we can at the chalet. Ian works as a telecoms engineer and is a keen cyclist. Katie is a specialist advisory teacher working with autistic children and their families. Our son is a freelance graphic designer and our daughter has recently graduated with a degree in Philosophy and is currently living and working in Melbourne.

We enjoy this area so much and we are happy to share our chalet and all that we know about the area with you. If you are looking for an alpine holiday with plenty to see and do or just a peaceful place to relax, we think La Bonne Vie is just the place for you.

Why Ian & Katie McCabe chose Massif des Bauges Regional Park

We have visited many regions of France over the years and were introduced to the Savoie region by some friends. We immediately liked the tranquil environment and the friendliness of the local Baujus and decided it would be the perfect place to escape to all year round for a chance to practice our skiing, indulge in the local cuisine, cycle on our tandem, go for walks or just relax and drink wine! Our neighbours have become our friends and our French is slowly improving. This is our home from home and we would like to share it with like minded people who enjoy nature at its best, outdoor pursuits, amazing scenery, a peaceful and relaxing environment.

What makes this chalet unique

The chalet was built in 2009, a project that we saw through from beginning to end. We now have a chalet with an open plan living area on the first floor, large picture windows, making it a light and airy space with stunning views. The chalet sits on a hillside on the outskirts of the village of Le Chatelard, which is the one of 14 villages in the Massif des Bauges, and conveniently has the only major supermarket (Carrefour) in the region for all your food and drink supplies. The village has many amenities including a quaint restaurant that is highly recommended, a bar/pizzeria, a small Friday market and the usual bank, post office and tabac. There are good road routes to Annecy, Aix les Bains, Albertvillle and Chambery, all about 30 minutes away. The regional park is quiet and has been described as 'an island of nature, where time is not an element' and you do feel you have stepped back in time and escaped the crowds at last. Ideally situated for the local ski resorts (and yet still only an hour from Orelle with its access to Val Thorens and the 3 vallées). A perfect base for walking, cycling, swimming and a host of other outdoor activities. We stayed 10 days from 31 July & our only complaint is that the stay was too short! The chalet is furnished to a very high standard, very comfortable with all mod cons. The views are even more stunning than the pictures on the website & at night the sky is amazing, the lack of light pollution means the stars really shine, we saw several shooting stars too. We have 4 children from 8-15 & have stayed at several French holiday camps with all the clubs & activities they provide, so were a bit worried that we might struggle to keep them entertained while staying at an Alpine holiday home in the summer. Glad to report there is loads to do - from lazing on the beach at Lac Annecy to thundering down a Luge at Semnoz. Kate & Ian have thoughtfully provided a comprehensive folder full of local attractions & there is a local Tourist Office. We went away feeling we had barely scratched the surface. The acid test with any holiday is “would you go back?”, in our case the answer is a unanimous yes!

Very sorry to leave

Although the temperatures were quite high and we saw more rain than snow, we had a super week in this very comfortable house. For fanatical skiers this area is obviously not challenging enough; but for more recreational skiers it was perfect! Gentle slopes, very affordable rates, beautiful panorama's from the top of the chairlift over the Alps, and besides that also lots of winter walking possibilies: all in all we were very sorry we had to leave. After an active day outdoors it was lovely to come 'home' again in this house with its more Scandinavian than French ambiance. We hope to return in the nearby future, as there are so many more walking trails we'd like to explore. And because the scenery must be stunning in other seasons as well! We would like to thank Ian and Katie for the very pleasant and prompt contacts, and the good information they provided.

Great holiday location

We really enjoyed our stay in the house, very comfortable for 2 adults with 3 (large) teenage boys. Well equipped kitchen and good dining / lounge area. Ideal holiday location for walking, running & cycling and also visiting nearby Annecy.

A well appointed chalet in a beautiful location.

We had a fantastic week in this cosy, well appointed chalet located in the beautiful Savoie region of France. This is the perfect base for an action packed or relaxed holiday, any time of year. There is so much to see and do in this area. The Owner Ian was most efficient and helpful.

Fantastic chalet in beautiful location

A fantastic stay in a very well-appointed chalet, one of the best we have ever stayed in. Everything we could have wished for and more was provided. Stunning views from the balcony at the front and a lovely eating-out terrace to the side. Annecy was busy but beautiful - best parking was on the outskirts of town with a walk around the lake into the town centre. The Cascade de Tyroliennes zip wire course at Aillon Le Jeune was great for teenagers and took three hours so a good half-day activity. Lovely beaches with good facilities at Sévrier and Doussard and the chance to swim in Lake Annecy whilst looking up at the mountains. Pizzas from Le Feu de Bois in Le Châtelard were excellent. A very highly recommended chalet in a beautiful area.

Notes on accommodation: The chalet is eco friendly with solar roof panels heating the hot water. There is underfloor heating downstairs & radiators in all the bedrooms, hallway and shower room. Heated towel rail in the bathroom. The lounge is open plan & comfortably seats 6 with a large L shaped sofa & a cosy log burning fire. There are various board games, books, dvd's, ipod docking, WiFi and television and plenty of information on what to do, where to eat, local walks and bike rides in the area. There is a large dining table at which to enjoy meals or, if al fresco dining is preferred, we have a private decked patio area to the side of the chalet which has table and chairs & enjoys the sun from early afternoon until nightfall in the summer, the perfect place to admire the view. High chair available. Cot hire can be arranged. Outside: La Bonnie Vie has a sloped garden with a decking area outside the kitchen which is ideal for lazy lunches & evening barbecues. The chalet is south facing & the decking area enjoys the sun from early afternoon to sunset. There is an outdoor dining table, chairs & parasol and a barbecue for al fresco dining. The balcony to the front provides the ideal spot for sitting back and enjoying the view or star gazing at night when the stars shine bright! Utility Room: Large cave space leading up from the garage. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer located in the cave. Indoor and outdoor clothes airers. The cave is ideal for storage of walking/ski equipment (ski racks for 8 pairs of skis) and bikes. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and cleaning at the end of your stay are included in the price. Bath towels can be provided for £2.50 each.
