Lovely quiet 1st floor apartment situated in residential area. Detached property with rental accommodation on the 1st floor. Ground floor private to the owners (never there when guests are). Gardens. Wonderful location with both mountain and sea views. 5 mins walk from village centre. 15 mins drive to beaches.

About the Owner

We are a professional couple who have run our own successful business for more than 25 years in Cheshire, south of Manchester. We have 1 daughter and a lovely cocker spaniel.

We discovered the Languedoc Rousillion area of France in the mid 1980's, when we purchased our 1st property -the Collioure apartment (FR6011).

In the late 90's we bought our house in Laroque Des Alberes (FR5984), in a somewhat "tatty" condition. It was purposely built as two self contained apartments on the ground and first floor. The French owner had simply rented them out and done nothing to either apartment or the garden since the day it was built.

But, we could see the potential. So we renovated the 1st floor apt first. Built a swimming pool & sun terrace. Then renovated downstairs for our private use.

Sun, sea and mountais

We are English people living in France and decided to make a late booking for a week in the South of France. I have to admit to being familiar with Laroque des Alberes but my friend had never been before. It is a special place in the foothills of the Alberes Mountains and only 15 minutes from the sea, from the city of Perpignan and not much further to Spain. Our initial contact with the owner resulted in a prompt and efficient reply and soon we were booked and ready to go. We arrived at the location and found a beautiful clean apartment containing everything you could want for a great holiday. As well as the apartment itself, there is a large balcony and a fantastic swimming pool area. The building is completely fenced in and the gardens are beautiful. It is really difficult to find fault, the only problem we had was that very occasionally we couldn't get the internet. This really is a five star holiday location and the owners are to be congratulated on what they provide. I would recommend a visit to anyone wanting to have a break in a special place in the sun.

Location

Already owning a smaller apartment in Collioure (FR6011) we wanted a larger inland property with a pool in this fantastic area. The beauty of Laroque (FR5984) is that its only 10 mins from the beaches of Collioure, Argeles & St Cyprian but you are located in the foothills of the Pyrenees with fabulous mountains views behind & a sea view to the front. It's also extremely quiet in the bustling summer season. 5 minute walk to the the village which oozes character with its small streets, lovely stone properties & the "tour" at the top of the old town. There is a small selection of good quality, interesting restaurants, cafes and bars. The village also provides a pizza take away, TWO bread shops, Dr, dentist, pharmacist, hairdressers, library, play park, mini market and weekly market.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Lots of walking in and around the area. Walk routes available from the Tourist Information in the village. Tennis. Our village tennis club has 3 floodlit courts. Guests can purchase either a day session for 10€ or a weekly pass for only 40€

Coast/Beach:

The lovely beaches of Argeles and St Cyprian are only 15 minutes drive away. The pretty village and beaches of Collioure are just 20 mins drive away with its abundant choice of restaurants, quaint shops and artists galleries.

Travel:

Perpignan (PGF) is the nearest airport. Approx 20 miles, 30 mins by car. Gerona (GRO) over the border in Spain, a big Ryanair hub, is only 40 miles away approx 1 hour drive. Also possible Carcassone 1 hour, Toulouse and Barcelona both approx 2 hours drive

Distances:

Laroque village centre is about a 5 minute walk for the bread shops, cafes, restaurants, pizza takeaway, Dr's, dentist, hairdressers, mini-market and weekly market. Many of the surrounding villages (less than 5 mins drive) offer a futher choice of restaurants. As well as the beaches the area offers many places of historical interest, a wine route through many local vinyards, breathtaking mountain walks and drives and the spanish border only a few miles away.

Further Details:

Mini-market in the village. newsagents. Post office with the all important 'hole in the wall machine'. Helpful Tourist Information centre in the village adjacent to the Marie.

Tennis club offering 3 courts by the hour or if staying longer then weekly rates can be negotiated.

Great for walking and cycling throught the vineyards.

Horse riding available nearby.

Changeover Day:
Saturday - during the season. 4pm enter -10am depart. In the low season we are more flexible on both changeover days and in/out times.

Superb location. Quiet residential area. 800 metres to the village by road or through the allotments & over the river. Tranquil is a great description for Laroque. Our rooftop terrace (with access straight off the lounge) offers staggering views of the "Alberes" mountains. How idyllic to sip a glass of local wine watching the moon glide over the mountains with your favourite CD playing softly in the background. The bathroom has a breathtaking view of Mt Canigou especially between Oct & May when the peak is snow covered. The tiled pool area is totally private with lovely gardens and a palm tree. 9m x 4m pool with a large surrounding sun terrace. Comfortable sun loungers, shaded canopy for eating or reading. BBQ next to canopy so the men don't feel left out! CDs, Videos & books.
