About martin taylor

We are a professional couple who have run our own successful business for more than 25 years in Cheshire, south of Manchester. We have 1 daughter and a lovely cocker spaniel.

We discovered the Languedoc Rousillion area of France in the mid 1980's, when we purchased our 1st property -the Collioure apartment (FR6011).

In the late 90's we bought our house in Laroque Des Alberes (FR5984), in a somewhat "tatty" condition. It was purposely built as two self contained apartments on the ground and first floor. The French owner had simply rented them out and done nothing to either apartment or the garden since the day it was built.

But, we could see the potential. So we renovated the 1st floor apt first. Built a swimming pool & sun terrace. Then renovated downstairs for our private use.

martin taylor purchased this apartment in 1980

Why martin taylor chose Pyrenees-Orientales Coast

Collioure is known as the jewel in the crown on this beautiful coastline. The mountains dramatically come right down to the sea and provide a fantastic opportunity for walking and scenic drives.

Choice of airports nearby so flight availability is excellent and we can offer advice if required.

Collioure is a warren of tiny streets that offer many restaurants and boutique shops. 3 beaches and a new headland walkway over to Argeles. Hire a pedalo, book a boat trip, watch the children play on the park, scuba dive or take a trip on the little yellow train through the vineyards for the fantastic elevated views.

Car not always needed as Collioure has very cheap local transport, with trains to Perpignan & beyond, plus a bus service to neighbouring villages. Most of the local buses & trains only charge 1 Euro per day !!! We can provide details of taxis.

What makes this apartment unique

Superb location in a quiet residential area. 800 metres into the village and 3 lovely beaches. The full width sliding doors open onto the dining balcony (table and chairs) with a wonderful sea view, lovely to have your morning breakfast on, lunch or evening meals, or simply relax with a book & a glass of wine whilst playing some music in the background.

The small development of about 36 apartments is occupied mainly by French owners as their 2nd home. All apartments are individual but not all have 'the view'.

The summer evenings can be busy in the village centre so the short stroll back to the haven of the apartment is pleasant.

The apartment has a TV and a DVD player. We have a few CDs but don't forget your favourites. The bookcase is full and exchanges are welcome. An information folder tells you about restaurants and places to visit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are back from a splendid holiday and would like to say how very much we enjoyed your apartment in Collioure. We were very impressed when we first arrived but stunned by the view when we opened the shutters, revealing such a splendid panoramic view of the town and the Med. The facilities you provided were excellent and the position of the apartment, so close to the town by a 10 minute walk, made it very easy to shop and pop back ready for the days adventures or indulgent lazing on the beach. Lovely apartment with fabulous views

  • 5 of 5

We have visited this apartment a few years ago and chose to return for our 25th wedding anniversary so we could enjoy fabulous restaurants and be able to cook meals from ingredients bought at the local markets. The balcony affords beautiful views of the med across pretty terracotta rooftops.?The owners could not have been more helpful in assisting with organising out visit. A real home from home and so peaceful. Thank you for allowing us to celebrate our wedding anniversary Thank you

Fantastic Location

  • 5 of 5

This this second time we have stayed at this apartment. We stayed for a week in 2011 and when we returned to Europe we wanted to spend another relaxing week in Collioure, and as we totally enjoyed this apartment we were happy it was available. Collioure is really a wonderful place with an nice mix of sun, sea, scenery, culture, and activities. The apartment is fairly modern and has all the amenities that you would need. It is clean, and well equipped whether you need an umbrella for the beach or utensils for preparing a meal or just relaxing playing cards and enjoying music. We enjoyed a number of meals in the apartment-with the great views overlooking the village, harbour and sea. Probably more than anything my teenage children enjoyed the fast wifi. My wife and I preferred the apartment's location; just the right distance from the village centre so you are not in the throngs of visitors but close enough that I would wander down every morning before everyone got up and buy fresh croissants. If you want a quiet enjoyable place for a relaxing visit I would highly recommend this apartment and I will definitely return.

French Heaven

  • 5 of 5

A Fantastic Holiday in the idyllic town of Collioure, the Apartment has everything you need and is very clean and comfortable with super fast internet, and stunning views from the Balcony.

We were given superb instructions by the owners on finding the Apartment and a high standard of information on the local area.

When we arrived in the apartment there were full instructions on everything within and some great information of the local area, the Owners obviously love the area, and are keen to ensure you have a great time while visiting.

The apartment is in a quiet complex a 5 minute walk from the town centre so is ideally situated for all amenities.

I highly recommend making a point of booking Le Jardin Restaurant!!

I would not hesitate to recommend this lovely Apartment as a base for a getaway to a piece of French Heaven.

We will Certainly be back a lot more!!!

Collioure

  • 4 of 5

Very nice apartment with all equipment for a relaxing holiday. Short walk down hill to the town and beach .nice quiet residential area with the hills and a walk up to the fort just at the back of the apartment. Plenty of books and fast internet access. Great view of the town and the sea from the balcony would recommend and would go again .we flew to carcassone and then got the train to collioure booked the tickets on internet. Parking ok in May but would guess not easy to park in high season. I euro bus stop just at the bottom of the street and train station just 10 mins walk away .Collioure very pretty town but a bit expensive but there is a lidle on the way to the next town. Good market on a Sunday morning.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Perpignan at 18 Miles Nearest Barpub : village centre - plenty of them at 800 Metres Nearest Golf : St Cyprien at 15 Kilometres Nearest Train : Collioure at 1000 Metres Nearest Restaurant : village centre over 100 to choose from at 800 Metres Nearest Beach : Collioure at 800 Metres Car: not necessary

Special interest holidays:

Walking and exploring!

This area offers everything - Sun, sea and mountains.

My favourite in St Martin Du Canigou !! lovely walk up to see the Abbey. But there's Carcasonne just over an hours drive, Perpignan, Ceret, Montpellier - just 2 hours drive. The region has lots to offer

Coast/Beach:

Collioure has 3 separate beaches. The nearest one is approx 800m walk from the apartment. the furthest beach is only 1200m away.

We prefer to stay in Collioure, but there is a huge sandy beach at Argeles Sur Mer & St Cyprien - 10 miles of it plus !!!

Travel:

Perpignan airport is the nearest. approx 18 miles/40 minute drive. Gerona (across the border in Spain) approx 50 miles/60 mins drive. Beziers - 1 hour 30 mins, Toulouse - 2 hours. Carcassonne 1 hour. Car not necessary as the village has everything you need. Train station in the village and bus service to Perpignan and surrounding villages. Why not take advantage of the offer of 1 euro bus anywhere within the region.

Distances:

The village centre is the same distance as the beach - 800m, with its abundance of restaurants, cafes and bars. There is a busy interesting market on Sundays and Wednesdays. The village has the all important bread shops, banks, pharmacists, post office, tourist information office and all the usual amenities - doctors, dentists etc, should they be necessary.

Further Details:

Horse riding approx 10 mins drive away. Golf course at St Cyprian approx 20 mins drive away. Great area for walking & mountain biking. Supermarket, bank and tourist info office only 10 mins walk away. Local and national fetes and celebrations all through the year.

Its hot !!! 34-37C standard June/July/August. May/Sep/Oct still high 20+C sometimes still hits 30C so great for people, not tied to school holidays !!! Walking, sightseeing & exploring this wonderful region of France. During the "winter" months still beautiful sunshine - "the most sun hours per year - in the whole of Europe" - great to get away from damp, cold UK. We have sunbathed on Christmas Day, been swimming on New Years Day & had a BBQ with friends on New Years Day, whilst enjoying 26C !!! The snow topped Canigou mountains, only 40 mins drive away, can be seen from late October - through to about May. Spring - the cherry season with cherry festivals in many local villages, usually early May - the big one at Ceret - 30 mins drive. Lots of vineyards for local wine tasting. Simply - Collioure is wonderful !!! Just go !! Outside: Lovely balcony with sea view overlooking Collioure. Table and chairs for 4 people. Attractive and colourful geranium planters. The Appt complex does have a garden area for our guests to enjoy. There are bench seats facing the mountains - stunning view. You can watch the little train go over to Port Vendres, or simply take a glass of wine & read a good book. An alternative to seating on the balcony Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are not included in the rental. However bed linen can be hired for a fee of £10 per bed, per booking. Towels also available at £5 per person. We do NOT supply beach towels, however, Tea Towels and bath mat are provided.
