About Katherine Harding

We have lived in Kingston now for over 14 years and love it here. Although only a small village, there is so much going on and the Dolphin Inn is always welcoming. We both work locally and try our best to be as green as we can, using local organic and fair trade items where possible - something we have tried to continue with the Coach House. We have two dogs, Tug and Dex, who also love life here - after all, with the main decision being a walk on the beach or a walk on the moors, who can blame them! We hope you will love it as much as we do in this beautiful part of Devon, so close to towns and shops, yet so distant and remote as well...

Katherine Harding purchased this barn in 2000

Why Katherine Harding chose South Hams

Close to local beaches and coves.

Few minutes walk from excellent local pub.

Very well equipped.

Lovely sunny garden with rural views.

Parking spot for a small/medium car.

What makes this barn unique

Original old coach house, converted into a gorgeous cottage. Amazing village with so much going on all year round...

Guestbook comments from the owner

"What a lovely place to stay! Everything you need in such a tranquil location... Katherine & Mark have thought of everything in 'The Coach' it makes it all so relaxing. We will come again!"

"What a lovely time we've had. A daily dilemma between hibernating in the cosy Coach House or exploring the perfect Devon coast."

"A lovely and relaxing holiday enjoyed by both of us. The Coach House more than exceeded our expectations, a beautiful and cost cottage to wind down after a day exploring the outstanding Devon countryside. The village itself is an ideal place from which to explore on foot or bike and the Dolphin Inn provided a lovely setting to unwind in after a long walk."

Katherine and Mark were excellent hosts and immediately took care of a small problem we had. The house was immaculate and well located to explore the area. Very happy with our stay at the Coach house.

A lovely quiet location near to all coastal locations and other places of interest

  • 4 of 5

A lovely property with all items and facilities you might need.

Very quiet and private garden area ( possibly a couple of more relaxing chairs for garden would be an asset)

Very near to all amenities including supermarkets to stock up, cafes, pubs and beaches.

There would obviously have been many lovely walks had we had the weather!

However, great care needed along the narrow country lanes even whilst driving as much of the hedgerow has been allowed to overhang the roads.

We had a very enjoyable time and would recommend this holiday home for two people

Owner's Response: So glad that you enjoyed your stay at The Coach House and I think you realised why we ask you to follow our directions and not use Sat Nav! The normal lanes are fine to drive down, but the Sat Nav does try and take you down really narrow farm lanes! Glad you managed to enjoy many of our local walks and a coffee or two in the local cafes and pubs. I hope we can welcome you back sometime soon...

Very well appointed holiday let

  • 5 of 5

We found the property to be very well equipped apart from a washing machine which didn't bother us too much as we were only there for 5 days, It was very clean and comfortable and we both slept very well! We were blessed with very good weather during our stay and could have benefited from some more comfortable outside chairs to enjoy the lovely sunny secluded south facing garden area which had a glorious view over the surrounding fields. Bigbury golf course is very close by and I enjoyed a round of golf there with stunning sea views. We were disappointed not to be able to sample the food at the local pub (The Dolphin) as they did not serve food on Sunday evenings. We were able to walk down to the Erme estuary at Wonwell beach from the property and enjoyed a wide diversity of birdlife all around. All in all very relaxing!

Generally a relaxing time in a pretty village in an attractive area of S. Devon. I must mention that the steps to the property are steep and have high risers resulting in some accessibility problems. Future visitors who may be infirm should be made aware of this. The accomodation was cosy and adequate. As an asthmatic I found the downstairs bedroom had a cool mustiness about it and we didn't like the closeness to the inevitable farming community traffic which seemed to thunder by at speed.

Overall we had a pleasant relaxing week.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and lovely to hear that you enjoyed your holiday. I do mention the access steps on my advert and indeed I do state quite clearly that the property is not suitable for less mobile guests, so I hope that reassures you. I am sorry that you had some tractors come past - it was the perfect hay making weather that you stayed during (dry and hot for the whole week!) and our local farmers were, as the old adage goes "making hay while the sun shines"! All the best, Katherine

The perfect retreat

  • 5 of 5

The Coach House at Kingston was exactly what we wanted for a weekend away from it all to relax and put our feet up -- not that there wasn't anything to do! The surrounding area is full of great places to visit, wonderful walks and beautiful beaches, little market towns and so on. There's a great deal more that we have left to explore. But the property itself was perfect -- warm and snug, and so, so comfortable. It had everything we wanted (wood burning stove, wifi, plenty of local information and maps, and a super comfy bed). Can't wait to book a return visit!
