Beautiful cottage in idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about our stay at Laprade. The beautiful cottage is in an idyllic setting, peaceful yet close enough to the award winning picturesque town of Aubeterre. Pictures do not do this place justice, the town is small but beautiful, full of friendly restaurants and a lovely market square.

Vince & Emma were welcoming, friendly hosts who made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed to enjoy our stay and Vince & Emma were on hand to help with any questions. Vince's home grown veggies were delicious!

The weather was lovely and hot so the pool was great for a dip to cool off and we spent most afternoons lying out in the sun.

There is plenty to do and explore nearby including a lovely secluded river beach just up the road. We spent a fun afternoon canoeing along the river with canoes hired in Aubeterre (very reasonably priced!),

We fell in love with the cottage and the local area and can't wait to come back again in 2017 - thanks Vince & Emma

Great holiday

  • 4 of 5

We had a fantastic holiday at Chez Vista.

The cottage is well equipped and has everything you need for a great holiday.

Vince & Emma were great hosts and close by if you needed anything.

We spent half the week exploring the area and the rest of time we spent lounging around the pool.

The garden is great and the views especially early morning and evening are lovely.

We had a fantastic day in Bordeaux which is an hour away and definitely worth a visit.

We hope to stay there again soon

Aubeterre is relatively small but has some nice shops and restaurants. We had a great meal at The Garage which is just off the main square.

Wonderful family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just come back from our first family holiday (our baby is 3.5 months old) it was wonderful. Vince (owner) is such a lovely man so friendly and a laugh:) he bought us fresh eggs, tomatoes, chillis and peppers. What a treat the eggs are so good my husband had 6 in one day lol The accommodation is great everything u need in a house, we did a lot of cooking at home as easier with our little one and we had everything we needed. Pool area is great, big garden 2 walk around and take a book and just have pure bliss of peace and quite:) I will definitely return when my son is older:) small town is 5 minutes away, if u arrive on Sunday all the shops close at 12pm so maybe ask Vince 2 pick u up some things get get you going as literally nothing open. English tv for nights you can't be bothered 2 venture out or just feel like lazy. If your planning 2 stay in this area book it's a Lovely place xxxx

Vacances tranquille dans une belle maison

  • 5 of 5

A little gem of a Gite

  • 4 of 5

Traditional gite in a great location with everything you need for a family holiday. Good road links to main attractions in the Dordogne. Made to feel very welcome by Vince and Emma. One of the most relaxing holidays we have been on as a family. We will definately be back.

You can choose how far you want to go, They will drop you off at the destination so you can have a peaceful afternoon down the river Dronne. Recommended for a family day out.

There is also a bar/restaurant at one of the stop off destinations in Poltrot, park up your kayaks and dine!

Aubeterre also has a river beach, with activities from time to time such as volley ball. funfair and water sports. In the main square of aubeterre there is a variety of bars and restaurants.

Aubeterre beach on the river Dronne - 2.9 km (about 2 mins in the car and 20 mins walking). St Aulaye beach on the river Dronne - 11 km. Parcoul beach (Le paradu) and Brossac beach (L'Etang Vallier) - both only 30min drive. Royan beach on the coast - Just over an hour in the car. La Rochelle and Arcachon - Just over 2 hours.

Angouleme-Cognac and Bergerac airports are at an equal distance (about an hour in the car). Bordeaux is about an hour and a half drive and Limoges about 2 and a half hours. Car hire is essential as the taxi prices in this region are very expensive.

We are only 15 minute drive from Riberac where there is an international market every Friday morning and only 10 minutes from Chalais where there is again another large market on Monday mornings. Chalais has a link to the TGV railway and a laundrette. Aubeterre however is just down the road where their is a small market is a Sunday morning and have lots of tourist attractions - it was the most beautiful village in France in 1993 and is still in the top 100 today. Aubeterre has a river beach.

Further Details:

We are located between the village on Saint Antoine de Cumond (Dordogne) and the small hamlet of Ragot which is part of the village of Laprade (Charente) - the sister village of Aubeterre-sur-dronne. The property is located in a rural area with lots of quiet country roads that are ideal for runners, cyclists or those who enjoy peaceful walks! Aubeterre-sur-dronne has many attractions including a beach, canoe/ kayaking rentals and lessons, tennis, horse riding, football, golf, restaurants and bars, chateaux, and churches. Its a great place for a holiday especially for Brits as most people in this village speak good English. The are many good restaurants under a 10 minute drive. There's no need to even leave the gîte to make it your holiday - why not relax in the pool in the evening whilst the kids are in bed.
