About the Owner

Julian & Lindsay Telling have been visiting Fowey since they were teenagers. The family have had a property in Fowey since the earl 70's and have owned No.4 Harbour View since 1987. In 2008 an opportunity arose to purchase No.1 Harbour View which had been empty and in a poor state of repair for a few years.

After 12 months of refurbishment No.1 emerged as a contemporary conversion of a Victorian villa benefiting from all the mod cons.

Why Fowey: Fowey is a very special place which has something to offer for both the young and old. Our house is definitely a home and available for a limited number of weeks every year. After almost 40 years of visiting Fowey with 3 generations it is our adopted home. Few homes in Fowey benefit from both a spectacular view and out door space.

A beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

Fowey is one of our favourite places to visit in Cornwall, our first time was the day after out wedding and we just fell in love with the charm ofor the harbour.

We recently spent a long weekend visiting with friends and really couldn't rate Harbour View higher! After walking down the many, many steps from the car park we were all ready for a cup of tea and an opportunity to put our feet up, Harbour view didn't disappoint and was well worth those steps! The finish is fantastic and it's clear that the owners have spent a lot of money on the finish of the house, from the kitchen and bathrooms to the beautiful flooring and restored fireplaces and stained glass window in the entrance. The beds are extremely comfortable and no expense spared with the finish in each of the rooms that are all clean and inviting. It was really quite an adventure discovering all the new feature lighting! The views are just spectacular and we all spent hours sitting in the various window seats admiring the boats coming up and down the river. There is also a lovely private deck off the kitchen with ample space to dine alfresco and enjoy the sun, a really lovely feature of a really lovely home. That's just what it felt like. We will most definitely be back!

Family Get Together

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely family weekend in this delightful house with stunning views. We were in Fowey for a family wedding and the location was perfect - walking distance from both the church and the reception venue at the Fowey Hotel. The house suited all generations and was extremely well equipped. In between the celebrations we were able to relax and enjoy the view from the first floor sitting room. Everything was as described, although be warned, the approach is challenging when arriving in the dark! The lack of a parking space wasn't a problem however, as once unpacked we didn't use the car again as everywhere is easily accessible on foot or by ferry and if you enjoy walking there are plenty of walks starting from the house.

Superb, high quality property with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

On arrival the property was immaculately presented. It was obvious that the property had been refurbished and finished to a very high standard. A true home from home experience. Not your typical rental property. High quality finishes throughout from the kitchen fixtures, fittings and appliances to bathrooms to the external decking and sunbeds.

The views from the front windows across the estuary are stunning.

In short, a fantastic, high quality property that we would visit again without hesitation.

Outstanding property

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful holiday in this excellent property. It was the second visit for some of us and yet again nothing disappointed us. The views from the living room and second floor bedroom are stunning. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, the beds comfortable and furnishings and decoration are luxurious. Would recommend staying at this property without hesitation.

Wonderful cottage with fabulous views over Fowey estuary. Tastefully decorated, bright interior and all the mod cons you need. Great walks nearby with views and wonderful pubs, shops and restaurants on your door step. Probably not suitable for disabled - hills and no parking nearby.

From the Owner

Fowey is one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the UK. Set on the south coast, within St.Austell bay it has its own estuary. Whilst one of the busiest sailing centres in the UK Fowey has changed little over the centuries. It has narrow streets, old properties and a magical history. It has been home to authors such as Daphne du Maurier and Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch and is steeped in naval history not to mention piracy! The unspoilt coast line is virtually all owned by the National Trust. In the summer the town is bustling with holiday makers and sailors and in the winter it enjoys a quieter pace of life. Fowey, however is still very much a working port with china clay docks supporting many large vessels together with a fishing fleet.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Newquay at 25 Miles Nearest Barpub : Safe Harbour at 150 Metres Nearest Ferry : Fowey - Polruan at 0.2 Miles Nearest Golf : Carlyon Bay at 4 Miles Nearest Train : Par Station at 6 Miles Nearest Motorway : Exeter at 80 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Life Buoy at 150 Metres Nearest Beach : Ready Money Cove at 0.3 Miles Car: recommended

Special interest holidays:

Fowey hosts the Fowey literary festival week in May as well as the mussel fest and excellent Christmas market in December.

Regatta Week is held in August attracting the Red Arrows, Gig racing and one of the largest sailing fleets outside Cowes Week.

Fowey Classics is held in July.

The nearest small beach is Whitehouse about 5 minutes walk whilst Ready Money is a 10 minute walk which sits in the harbour mouth, it has a sandy beach and there is no access to boats. There are many other beaches including Lantic Bay and Coombe which can be accessed via the coastal path or by boat. The land around the harbour is principally owned by the National Trust which has some amazing walks all very accessible from the house.

The closest airport is Newquay which is approximately 30 minutes away by car. Par station is 3 miles away and sits on the mainline to Bristol, Birmingham and London.

The journey from Bristol is 160 miles and takes about 2.5hrs most of which is motorway or dual carriage.

The capital of Cornwall is Truro which lies about 20 miles to the West with Plymouth about 30 miles to the East and St.Austell 7 miles to the North.

The North cost is about 30-40 minutes drive with places such as Padstow, Rock and Newquay being easily accessible.

From the Owner

Harbour View is probably the best location in town. It has the benefit of being on a small private no through road so enjoys privacy and is away from the daily hustle and bustle of Fowey life. Yet within 2 minutes walk you can be in the high street with all its shops, restaurants and pubs. The house has everything required for the perfect stay and Fowey has something to suit everyone. All our guests need to do is pack their clothes as the house has absolutely everything for the perfect stay summer or winter.
