Villa with Large Pool and Stunning Views

Overview

Property

Updated: 10-Dec-2016
Villa in Competa, Costa del Sol Inland, Spain - Quiet Location on Fringe of White-Washed Village and Bordering on Natural Park

The villa is the third of 10 townhouses on a quiet urbanisation on the edge of Cómpeta, a delightful white-washed mountain village in the Axarquia. Lounge/dining room and kitchen on the upper level, with views over the pool through the hills to the coast and on clear days, views across the Mediterranean to the Moroccan coast. 3 bedrooms on lower floor, with access to private garden and gate to communal garden and very large pool.Private garden contains bougainvillea, lemon tree and pots with geranium etc, giving lots of colour most of the year. Also 6 sunbeds.

Tarmacked road to house with private parking area adjacent to kitchen. Natural park is immediately opposite the access road, giving views of olive trees and path into hills, where there are extensive opportunities for walking.

Cómpeta is a delightful mountain village, with facilities for, but not spoiled by tourism. In particular, there are good-quality, authentic Spanish restaurants, an attractive main square and an indoor swimming pool. There are several other mountain villages within easy access, giving opportunities for more walks or day trips.

The villa provides an ideal base for relaxing family holidays, as well as walking or just exploring unspoiled areas of inland Spain. It is well equipped with a full range of cooking facilities in the kitchen, including hob, oven, microwave and coffee machine. In the lounge there is a wide-screen TV IPTV HD receiver, giving access to over 30 channels, including the usual Freeview channels and some Sky channels.. There are also DVD player/video recorder, Klpisch ipod/iphone docking station and W-Fi broadband internet access.

Golf and walking: The nearest golf courses are at Torre Del Mar and Rincon de Victoria. There are a large number of high quality golf courses within easy reach near Málaga.

There are many pleasant walks can be undertaken from the villa. The Natural Park is literally on the doorstep, with many spectacular walks in the mountains and valleys. There are numerous tracks along which to make up your own walks or to follow more structured walks from the leaflets and books kept at the villa. Walking can be hard work in the midsummer heat, but is enjoyable at all other times of year.

As well as Cómpeta, other smaller whitewashed villages are close by, including Canillas de Albaida, Arches and Corumbela. A reasonable road leads higher up into the foothills of the highest local mountain, Maroma, which provides the main breath-taking view from the villa.

Changeover day: Preferably Saturday (but can be any day by discussion). Adequate time is required to clean the villa and do any washing and ironing before new guests arrive.Entry is therefore at 4pm and the house should be vacated by 10am on the day of departure. Every effort will be made to accommodate different arrival/departure times, but will be dependent on other bookings.

Pool: There is a large pool, use of which is restricted to those staying at the 10 town houses and so it is never busy as it is uncommon to find more than 3 of the houses occupied at any one time. (Currently none are lived in permanently)

About the Owner

We have a villa in Spain and an apartment in Portugal that give good access to 2 enjoyable but different cultures, as well as different surroundings, one being in a mountain village, the other close to the coast.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The accommodation is fantastic, we were very impressed, we wanted for nothing, lovely furnishings, very comfortable large bed! The views from the upstairs balcony are absolutely breathtaking, we really didn't realise just how beautiful the whole experience would be. Competa is stunning and just what we like, we were lucky enough to be there for the Nocho del Vino.

Once again a very big thank you and we hope to get in touch with you at some stage to book the accommodation for possibly a different time of year as we love walking.

We had a fabulous 2 weeks at this beautiful villa. Beautiful walks in the area - a walking pole is useful if you're not a spring chicken as parts are a bit steep.

Sarah, the boys and I have had a great week in Competa and would like to come back at some time in the future to do some more walking. Next time we will pick a month when the temperature is lower and try to get a second house nearby for another family with which we often holiday

Lovely villa, fab views.

  • 4 of 5

Lovely townhouse villa, on outskirts of Competa, which is a lovely whitewashed village. Stunning views, over Competa, mountains and a sea view, nice and quiet location, but within easy reach of Competa for any essentials you may need.Villa very clean, well equipped and maintained, although in the garden bedroom, there was a drawer front missing from the chest of drawers and the bedside lampshade had seen better days. Just mentioning these items for first impressions reasons, however, they did not cause us any problems. Personally we love to BBQ, and the small portable one provided we felt, was too small for 5 people, although we did use it. Maybe a larger one or even a gas one could be added? The bedrooms are downstairs, accessed via marble spiral stairs, which was a lovely feature, a good workout for the legs! Being downstairs makes them very cool on the whole. Air con rarely needed at night during our stay, which was end of Aug and beginning of Sept. Wifi invaluable with teenagers in tow! Communal pool a lovely size, much bigger than those villas with private pools. Only 3 other villas occupied on and off throughout our 13 night stay, so pretty much had it to ourselves. Takes about 30 minutes to get to the coast of Torrox Costa, down the mountain road. Good selection of restaurants, bars and some water sports available. Nerja and nearby Burriana beach lovey to visit. My family enjoyed Parasailing on the beach, followed by a lovely meal. Competa itself has some lovely restaurants and bars, our favourite being El Pilon. We have been coming to this area of Spain for a few years and love it. Booking process very easy and great communications with Richard and Joyce throughout. We would recommend this villa, as a really relaxing, well equipped home from home villa in a fab location, and would like to hopefully, return someday.

Owner's Response: Thanks for a helpful review. The 2 problems with the garden bedroom were not present when we were last at the villa in May, but will be rectified when we are there next week. It is particularly helpful if such problems are pointed out to ourselves or to Pedro, so that prompt action can be undertaken.

Great villa in wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

This very comfortable villa is well equipped for a relaxing stay in the beautiful Axarquia region, set high on a hillside overlooking Competa and with spectacular views down to the coast. The village of Competa is within walking distance and has a wide range of shops and restaurants, everything you need close at hand.

The small complex is peaceful and well maintained and the large pool is perfect for cooling off in the summer heat.

Competa is well placed for visiting local villages and for travelling further afield to discover the cities and towns of Andalucia such as Granada and Córdoba.

Richard and Joyce, the owners, are very helpful, the booking process runs very smoothly and the local manager, Pedro, responds quickly and efficiently if there are any problems during your stay in Competa.

We had a wonderful relaxing stay at the villa and would thoroughly recommend it.

Attractive house with a splendid view

  • 4 of 5

The house is located in an attractive residential area on top of Competa with a fantastic view over Compata, down the valley and out over the Mediterranean Sea.

The house is well designed and well maintained - both the interior and the surroundings. The owners instructions to use the house were complete and easy to follow and there were an efficient local support to assist you if issues poped up.

Competa is a very charming "white town" some 14 km up from the coast and with only a few hundred meters to the National Park which offers very enjoyable trekking on well marked trails. Competa is very lively with a mixture of local and foreign people.

The restaurants offers very good food to very reasonable prices.

wonderful villa with panoramic views of Andalucia

  • 5 of 5

We have just enjoyed a wonderful week at Villa 6, with spectacular, panoramic views of Andalucia. the villa was impeccably clean and ij excellent order, spacious, well appointed, and with a balcony terrace, use of a gorgeous pool beneath trees and our own private garden. We could harley have asked for more!

We found the hilltop. 'white' village of Competa absolutely fascinating, with 3 lovely bars to choose from in the town square next to the striking Church of Asencion which has a beautiful interior, plenty of enjoyable restaurants (some with amazing views) and the steep, winding lanes we became increasingly adept at climbing. Everywhere is easily drivable of course with a car park conveniently located at the bottom of the town.

A wonderful retreat, which we would wholeheartedly recommend, and hoe to revisit ourselves.

Excellent Property

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this property during the last 2 weeks in August. It is located on the outer edge of Competa which is a lovely Moorish town in the hills to the east of Malaga and about an hour’s drive from the airport.

The property is one of 10 townhouses in a row which share an excellent good-sized swimming pool. Each townhouse has its own private garden area leading out to the swimming pool which is surrounded by communal gardens.

We were very happy with the property which was spacious and well equipped. There is a balcony with lovely views down the valley to the coast. The garden, patio, and balcony all face south west so get the sun for most of the day.

It is a fairly easy, though steep, 15 minute walk downhill into the town centre and a strenuous 20 minute walk back. People with limited mobility would find this very difficult. It only takes a few minutes to drive into the town centre where there is adequate free parking available. We often walked down and got a taxi back from the main square.

Competa is a welcoming and vibrant town with plenty of good value bars & restaurants and it is not overrun by tourists. Despite its reputation for having a high proportion of Northern Europeans amongst its residents we felt Competa had a distinctly Spanish flavour and were very enamoured by it.

We very much enjoyed our stay at this property.

Worth the stay Competa

  • 5 of 5

This property is in a wonderful location, very well appointed and a great place to stay. With stunning views down to the coast - we saw Africa one evening 60 miles away- this villa has everything going for it. The nearby town has a good selection of eating places and a quiet atmosphere.

The private pool and gardens are well kept and clean. With open countryside right on your doorstep there's plenty for those who like walking .

The local surroundings are hilly and steep in places, and if you don't like windy roads then this may not be the place for you. The 12 miles to the main road and coast take around 30 mins to drive, so be prepared.

All the information sent by the owners was clear and helpful, and we could not have wanted more.

Owner's Response: Seeing the African coast is one of the special sites from the villa - usually just at sunset on a clear evening. It is sometimes even possible to see lights coming on in Morocco as it goes dark.

Location

From the Owner

We first bought a villa 3km from Competain 1999 and although enjoyed that very much, we sold it so that we could get something closer to the village. However, we live in the country in the UK, on the edge of a small village and did not want to be right in the centre of any town or village, so the new villa is ideal for that purpose. Since fully completing the purchase of the house in Feb 2010, we have made improvements, with installation of 2 air-conditioning units and new lounge and main bedroom furniture, bathroom improvements, a new oven and hob and wood- burning stove. Entertainment facilities have also been upgraded with the addition of a widescreen TV, video-recorder and Klipisch docking station. There is also WI-Fi internet access which can be used to access BBC i-Player etc.

Facilities

From the Owner

We prefer the location of our new house for several reasons: It avoids the problems of rural tracks, having a properly made up road right to the property, with street lighting, yet is right on the edge of the village with immediate access to the Natural park and attractive walking areas. Its proximity to the village is a great attraction, the centre being only a few minutes' walk from the centre (though with a good steep climb back!) The communal pool allows us to have a much larger area for swimming and relaxing than the previous private one. But since the pool is shared by only 10 houses, none of which is lived in full-time, it is often very quiet and it is unusual to find more than 3 houses occupied at any one time.
