Mermaid Rock Cottage is a charming fisherman's cottage offering independent self catering private family accommodation situated in Jackson Road, Simon's Town. Positioned just 7 minutes walk from lovely, sandy beaches, in a quiet little road with a stunning view of the sea and lighthouse. From the sea facing deck spectacular sunrises and sunsets can be savored. Within easy reach is the picturesque seaside village of Simon's Town for shopping and fine dining at reasonable prices. Take a stroll down to Boulders Beach National Park famous for its Jackass Penguin Colony or a breath taking walk up the Naval steps on Admirals Kloof, the mountain behind the cottage. Drive the scenic road south, down the peninsula, to the well known Cape Point Nature Reserve where you can get a magnificent view of the 2 oceans, Indian and Atlantic, merging. Enjoy a glass of Cape wine of an evening as you gaze out to sea from the deck and you may catch a rare glimpse of the Mermaid of Arc Rock!

We adore the quiet beauty of the area around Simon's Town and the lovely, unspoilt beaches and rugged walks immediately accessible out of the back door. The location is pretty, calm and safe; also easy to get to interesting, lesser known places anywhere on the peninsula.
From the deck watching the sunrise or sunset across the sea is very special. By night we get a magical view of stars and glittering lights across the bay. Mornings are glorious watching sunlight playing on the sea, and the movement of the waves to get a sense of the day ahead. Breakfast or lunch in the protected area means we enjoy being outside away from wind and sun. This Indian Ocean sea is warm, lovely for swimming. Local penguins are a delight! We wash sandy feet at the hose pipe in the patio so sand doesn't get into the cottage. The quiet road and safe neighbourhood mean the children go to the local store or into Simon's Town without us worrying. On cold winter nights its cosy with curtains drawn, heating on, chilling out on comfortable sofas, with the bonus of sea view - its great!
Thanks for our time in Mermaid Rock. Your house was in all respects suiting our highest expectations, we found all we needed for our stay. The situation of the house was nice in a calm surrounding and gave us opportunity for some daily exercise by walking the street up and down to the beach. In the light of what we experienced on the latter part of our SA-stay we much appreciate the WI-Fi facility, I have as the others in our party developed an addiction to the use of modern cellphone technology. Being abroad for such a long time as we were makes contact with relatives, banks and business very essential.
Barry from the rental agency was a very helpful and in all aspects agreeable man to have to deal with.
We might consider a return to Mermaid Rock at another occasion though we found Simon's Town more windy this year than at earlier visits.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mermaid Cottage. Everything was just right and the only complaint was the constantly strong southerlies which were a bit of a surprise! We had lovely walks around Simon's Town and visits to explore the Cape Point national park. We would very happily book again.
Also to mention we found the letting agency to be most helpful with everything.
We are a swedish family of five that spent 3,5 weeks at this lovely place. Simon's Town and Mermaid Rock Cottage was a perfect "base-camp" for us.
The Cottage is so well kept. Everything was clean and nicely in order when we arrived, it felt very welcoming.
The service from Barry and Karon at Engel & Voelkers has also been very good, they always answered e-mails and phone calls immediately.
We hope to come back soon again!
This is a beautiful property with a fantastic sea-view and overlooking much of Simonstown. The location is excellent, 40 min from Cape Town and about the same to Cape of Good Hope. You find beautiful beaches after a 10-15 minutes nice walk and only 3 min away by car. The Town Centre is 5 min away by foot with a number of good restaurants and shops. The Tourist office is on the way. The best location you may find south of CT and with a very comfortable water temp. You find Boulders Beach very close. Public services such as a health centre within walking distance. Tennis and horse-riding 7 km away.
The propoerty is in a very good condition and very well maintained. The veranda is the best in the neighbourhood, spacy and overlooking the Sea. Good TV connections/channels so may follow developments in SA and internationally. Service by the Agent/Owner is very good.WE WILL GO BACK TWO WEEKS IN NOVEMBER 2015 !!! We have strongly recommended this property to our Swedish friends and colleauges. / Staffan and Birgitta
We stayed at Mermaid Cottage for just over a week for our wedding. The location is just perfect & safe with wonderful views over False Bay whilst enjoying breakfast or evening dinner on the fantastic outside seating areas. The cottage is well equipped, the 2 bathrooms providing privacy for all. It was clean & homely with good views of False bay even in the rain. Simons Town has everything you need and Mermaid Cottage is a short walk into the town.
Will return & stay in Mermaid Cottage again, fantastic value for money.
A beautifully kept and tastefully furnished cottage in Simonstown, just outside of Cape Town, with all the amenities that you need. Its about a 10 minute walk to the beach from the cottage and being at the top of a hill it has a panoramic view of the sea, wonderful to wake up to. It has a spacious patio with lounge chairs, perfect for an evening cocktail as the sun goes down. Simonstown is an old naval base and has a atmosphere reminiscent of a Cornish village where you can find good restaurants and small boutiques. If you look for it there´s a lot to do from visiting a submarine or the penguin colony to whale watching, local walks, museums or just sitting at a cafe in Jubilee Square overlooking the small harbour with all the ships. The African craft sellers in the square sell an amazing variety of beaded sculptures and other curios. The beaches along this part of the coast are stunning and other places not far away which are worth a visit are Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay and Hout Bay. I would definitely recommend the cottage both for couples and people with a family.
Perfect holiday cottage to explore Cape Peninsula from. Light, clean, stunning views over Simonstown, excellent safe yet secluded characterful location close to shops and amenities, fully equipped with everything working. Luxurious for two, comfortable for four. Sip Cape wines on the sun terrace watching whales or stay warm inside listening to the wild winds off the mountain. I'd go again.
